I think there is a market for natural antibiotic/hormone free meat from animals that are humanely treated. I would like to see this happen on small farms in Ohio. this could be a good source of revenue for our state. A farmer in California has a contract with Chipotle...why can't Ohio take the lead in something GOOD once in awhile!!!!!

Some of us do receive a premium for free range meat. If anyone is interested in either becoming a grower or buying the product I know of one being Niman Ranch, www.nimanranch.com .

I also think that this could be a solution for many smaller family farmers, as there's no way to compete with the big meat factory operations.

The problem is Ohio passing state issue 2 last Fall put a big target on our back, as this board will likely be dominated by big ag interests who'd love to regulate the remaining family farmers out of business.

I do not know who hsus is, i simply know that the farming technology must be exported to allow the Burgeoning population can be allowed to help them selves. Your attempts to justify the size and profitability of your enterprises is a major part of the problem. The arrogance of the large farmers and agribusinesses is appalling and exemplary of the attitude that somehow America will only feed the world if a profit can be made, That is not only shameful, it is an abomination... We are, whether or not you like it a minority of people on this planet, consume over 80% of the planets resources, most of which belong to the people you now wish to sell them back to. there is no difference between you and the oil companies, capitalism is dead, the world will soon take you to task and you wonder why we are hated all over the world. You argue about your profits while more people die every day because they lack the resources to supply you with more money. You seek to control the world food supply rather than share it. as for the increase in population, what else has it been doing since villages were formed.

What a mature point of view, is everyone who disagrees with you a raving lunatic or is that just special for me? Been a small organic farmer long before the internet or any of you people learned to type. I am one of those farmers you people have systematically been forcing out, I just have been successful enough to have withstood the madness that you people seek to legislate out of existence. Beyond your reach and ability to outspend and still farming and living by the same principles that made this country a place that has tolerated your corporate bullshit for the last 50 years. your days are numbered. People, individuals are on to you and when your customer base dries up so will your power and your money. It is happening all around you or you wouldn't be so rabid and aggressive now. Well I for one won't be intimidated by you or anyone else. We will save the earth from all of your type, you are inherently evil and a curse on the earth, Educate youselves or perish. Period, this is not the first time we have faced you people down and probably won't be the last but we will always be here raising the next generation on our small, independent farms and ready to defend them and our lifeway in the same manner. You need to practice what you preach. Checked out your website. Lots of chickens in on small cage. Pasture has little grass. Lots of HOT air. Check out the website www.sbafarms.com

thank you for looking at the website, you have seen pictures of chicks in a brooding house that are approx 3 days old in the late winter, the pastures you mention are at the same time of year and are all certified organic as are the cows being raised on them. Please check out the site as it progresses and you will see updated pictures from the spring. As for the sparness of grass those pictures were takes approx 5 months after Hurricane Ike devastated this entire area and they are at our related Organic beef location, our farm was wiped out by Ike and stood under salt water for almost a week. but i guess you would have to understand context to realize that.. and if that is as far as you went into the site you are just spamming and trying to avoid the subject of this thread. Rant on Mc Duff..

I rets my case! Just because you see a photo of a animal in a cage does not mean they are being mistreated. I most cases they are being protected from something. Animal are not like humans. They don't have the brain capacity to think and act like we do.

But according to everything you have been raving about, animals should not be in cages period. They should all be free range. You should update your photos on your web site so you will at least have some creditability when folks check you out. When I checked out your website and saw the photos, you had absolutly no credability at all. You do do not practice what you preach. So you can stop the name calling trying to deflect the real you.
