Is Atlanta In A Tornado Alley?

Full story: WXIA Atlanta 19
While it is true that last week's tornado in Atlanta was the first ever to hit downtown, the odds are that it could happen again. Full Story

Atlanta sits on a hill, so that's not the ideal place for movement of a tornado. However, like last week, one can hover and touch down anywhere.

When I was a child in the 70's, I remember a tornado destroying several houses in the Lakewood area. I suppose that is not the city limits.

Our location may be considered a tornado alley of sorts. I don't really know--I'm not the expert. And, like DLink said, because of climate change, we may be on the brink of becoming one. Again, I'm not the expert there, either. But, I do know one thing: This isn't exactly Kansas or Oklahoma. We don't hold a candle to their record, so I wouldn't consider us "Tornado Alley."

How much darker will they make that picture to make it as dismal and scary as possible. I don't recall the original being that dark

I remember a tornado going down Venetian Drive in SW Atlanta near Ft Mac and Campbellton Rd in the 50's, I believe. I was an elementary student. Tore the roof off my parents home, and demolished then police Chief Jenkins home. It was Atlanta. Does that not count? Not many years later, there were others in SW Atlanta. Why are they claiming this is the first in Atlanta?

I was downtown today trying to make it to 191 Peachtree. I heard all the "stay away" warnings, but really tossed it up to the news coverage overhyping the situation as the usually do. In this case, I WAS WRONG. It was a nightmare. The city is really a huge mess. I did not expect to find it as bad as it really was!

The weather isn't the problem, it is apathy to to the environment that is the problem. How many metro residents do we think knew that there was no warning system?

Exactly! Tornado alley is just south of Rome, Lindale/Wax area. Lived there all my life and you can count on it, tornado season they come running thru there. Remember the one on Palm Sunday a few years ago in Lindale?

If GEORGE BUSH is powerful enough to create global warming, he could snap his fingers and 'just like that", make you smart.
