No shaking in our area of Davao today. 3 days ago had a small one barely felt it. Friend from Cebu told me some people have panicked in Cebu City because of Text-ing rumors of tsunami going to hit.

At least 5 dead after magnitude 6.8 earthquake shakes Philippines.
6.8 is a pretty good shaker. Lets hope one never hits Manila in that range.

I am on Cebu, about 30 miles directly east of the
Negros quake. I was at my computer when the first quake hit.
There have been 3 aftershocks, the latest just 30 min ago (6.2).

People in Cebu city panicking and TV shows them running wild in the streets today.
While I live on a beach, Tsunami is not likely, due to location of the quake.
No panic here, just curiosity.

I can not imagine why some crackpot would judge my
earthquake reports as clueless/nuts/spam.

I learned some time ago, however, that Topix is made up mostly of childish and simple idiots.

I would NEVER post on Topix unless it was information of vital interest.

I live in Columbus Ohio, US.. I was just wondering how bad it was, I have an Uncle and a little cousin that went to the Philippine's a month ago to visit my uncle's wife a few weeks ago.. I haven't heard from them & I have NO way to reach them.. I'm Not sure exactly where they are staying but, I think his wife is from Cabanatuan City... Did that city get hit by the earthquake? Please help me, i'm so worried about them.. they just had a baby that's a month old & i just want to make sure that everyone is ok. I have NO clue how to get ahold of them, or even find out exactly where they were, i just looked on her facebook & most of her friend's had that city listed as where they are from so, I'm thinking that's where she is from but, my mom thinks she is from Manila.. If you could, Please write back as soon as you can! thanks so much!

I saw in the news that some areas felt intensity 7. At the magnitude a person would not be able to stand without holding on to something because of the shaking.

Death toll in Visayas earthquake reaches 43 – military
A powerful quake that hit central Philippines around noon Monday killed at least 43 people and caused widespread panic as aftershocks and rumors of a tsunami spread among the populace and rampant looting was reported in Negros Oriental province. Those who were killed were crushed by collapsing buildings, others were buried by landslides, according to the military.

I just woke up and have not seen any morning news.
I was not aware of that many deaths, but the ABS/CBN news out of Cebu city last night showed large numbers of people running wild in the streets in panic.

I am only 25 miles from the quake and we felt maybe four of them.
There was only gentle shaking for about ten seconds which was more of a novelty then anything to get excited about, but when it starts, one does wonder if it will get worse before it ends.

Its on GMA news.
My friend told me yesterday about the Panic and people running for the hills. People texting that the sea pulled back.
Its totally amazing here with all of the calamities going on, no reports of looting.

The big damaged is in Negros Oriental, mainly Guihulngan. Sad enough is that during the typhoon Sendong, this part of Negros Oriental suffered massive landslides too. Now it is feared that there would be another landslides because of this quake. Apparently, Cebu did not have any human casualties (thank God) but about 40 are still reported missing in Negros Oriental.

LOL, you will one day come to spot who are the plain idiots in the Philippines forum. Here, insults are thrown to you mainly when you are telling the truth. You will be judged clueless because simply the plain idiots are incapable of comprehension. Post your vital information, there are many who would like to interact with your posts, the idiots, they will continue reading it anyway, though their minds cannot absorb it. Post away, and welcome to the strange world of Philippines Topix forum.

You feel like overindulging yourself in some way today, and why not? Throw caution to the wind and eat your way through a big bar of chocolate, or have a retail therapy session that leaves you reeling from the amount of money you've spent. There's a definite chance you could get carried away and tell a whopper of a story that has little resemblance to what really happened. What on earth has got into you?
