As of Monday August 3 news and other content at www.dailygazette.com will be available only to home delivery and online subscribers at a cost of at least $2.95 a week.

Here's the news article.

So stupid...another business model intended to isolate Schenectady residents from what is really going on. Thankfully we still have the Times Union and News 9 to rely on for factual and up to date reporting. RIP Daily Gazette.

The Gazette has been announcing since last week that they were going to shut down their free website starting August 3. Well, yesterday, August 2, in the early evening, I tried accessing the paper and it was already shut down. Guess the people at the Gazette can't read a calendar!

Shame shame SHAME on the Gazette for making obituaries part of its pay subscription package!!!

That is just LOW and mean-spirited.

Obituaries honor a person's life and should be available to all to all who knew the person.

Talk about a stab in the back! To the deceased, the community, to everybody!

What, they think they'll earn more money by restricting obits to subscribers only? They'll earn a load of ill will is what they'll earn.

Wally, I agree about the Gazette's decision to not publish their obits unless you subscribe to their poor excuse of a newspaper! Obits are paid for by the families of the deceased and should be made available to the general public.

Comments on the Gazetto website since they started charging for access are practically nil.

They sure aren't Schenectady's hometown newspaper. The pix on Jan 1 issue was of First Night SARATOGA. Not even 1 pix of the fireworks in downtown SCHENECTADY NY Eve.

Hey. Reading this I must say I am still miffed over the Gazette's stupid move. They should have at least left the daily access for free. You know, if you go on their site that day, you can read it. Then if you want to pull archives or copies etc then you should pay. Schmucks!!! I HATE the Gazette. Schenectady behind the Wall of Hate once again. Small minded morons restricting people from free press. I SUBSCRIBE now to the TimesUnion because of their stupidity in their move. Not cool. Fools. You lost lots of business. How isolating and moronic. Who came up with this move? To try to make a few bucks you piss off the community. Moronic. Simply moronic. Smalltown Schenectady only proves to the world that yes, we are corrupt and we hide it now even better. Lots of stuff do not hit the papers unless you personally give them a heads up and this is how they repay us? Idiots.
