Family Court Judge Carrie Zepeda

Has anyone had a case with Judge Carrie Zepeda?
What is your opinion on her? She's pretty cruel and ignorant of the child's best interest, not to mention the law, in my opinion. Have yet to meet a mother, lawyer, court runner, paralegal etc., who has liked her.

Of course, I can only comment on my case that went before Judge Zepeda. She was attentive to details regarding our case. Demonstrated concern for both parents to work together directly. Patiently listened to all testimony and asked her own questions if she wanted to clarify something. I was and still am thankful for her professionalism.

I personally did not like Judge Zepeda. I do admit, my lawyer was terrible, and has been quickly replaced since my last court session... but I agree she is very ignorant of the child's best interest.

I was a breastfeeding mother who was not planning on returning to work until my daughter was 1, and she gave more custody to her father when I had evidence he was giving her formula behind my back!

I was forced to stop breastfeeding when my baby was only 4 months old because I wasn't able to pump effectively, and her father refused to let me visit for 10 minutes to breastfeed only.

However, she won't put up with any crap in the courtroom- which I appreciate. Although she seemed very "over it" and pissy during the trial. She also made a court order based on hearsay and now my father (baby's grandfather) is not able to babysit, for claim that he used to beat me when I was a child. He has no police record, and I denied every claim- it's just that my ex-boyfriend doesn't like my father very much. It seemed like he wanted to piss me off more than suit the best interests of my child... which Judge Zepeda allowed.

judge Carrie Zepeda is partial. I bet the thankful parent was either a male and/or a well-dressed person during the court-hearings (draw your own conclusions here).
In my case, she completely ignored the domestic violence component of the case, giving the father joint custody, based on his lies. She never lets me say anything in court, but always puts orders in place when the father complains and lies about me in court.
The father has not paid ANY child support for 2007 (a whole year now!), violated the court order several times (to date, 8+ times within 1.5 years) and what does judge Zepeda do? NOTHING! Oh wait, she did put another order in place, pacifying another lie the father told in court. Her reason? Oh, the parents did not complete a class she had assigned yet; disregarding that the place that runs the assigned class, takes months to move forward with each step, then STILL does not have a firm date in place. Oh, but you have to pay for this class IN ADVANCE, and you have to go whenever they may have one available.(how's that for planning any future vacations, even months in advance ?) How is that the parents' fault??
Meanwhile, the father continues to violate the court order; more boldly now that he knows there will be no consequences. And the child keeps suffering under his verbal & emotional abuse, physical threats and intimidation.
Judges get paid through our taxes and get elected by our votes. Let's DO something!

Ok, she got kicked out of criminal court. Everyone hates her and is anxious for her to leave. She thinks she knows everything but does not. Likes to make her own decisions and most likely has no children of her own since she likes to hurt those that come across her path. Hoping something happens to her and she can no longer do her job (oh such wishful thinking!)

This Woman needs to be kicked out. I agree with what everyone is saying. She hates woman and she's always on the mans side. I thought I was the only one that thought she was a bitch. She made me and my ex. do a co-parenting class wich is totally useless. My kids are teanagers we don't need the stupid class. it's a waist of time and money. I wish I new how to change judges because she SUCKS.

Hmmmm... idk about her either. I am in the process of a divorce and she really does seem to side with the men!

What can we do?

Well, we can all go to court one day when she will be in session and all of us women barge into the court room all at once and all at the same time say "Remove Zepeda from the bench!"

I read that Zepeda has three children of her own. Perhaps one day SHE will divorce her wife beating husband and get HERSELF for a judge and suffer like we are.

I have seen things happen in family court that have amazed me. Usually, opinions have been given in favor of the abusive parent, because the abused parent is so upset, and the abusive parent is usually a pro at telling lies. These are professionals, that don't understand the dynamic, or are a victim of the dynamic... the abuser tells a great story usually... and give judgement because they have not faced their own demons apparently.

I am currently listening to the total frustration of a parent, being told by lawyer after lawyer that she doesn't have a chance, because of the judge. What is going on with our courts when an individual gets to play out their own beliefs without the checks and balances of our courts/laws.

This is a very sad situation, and the children suffer in the long run.

My heart hurts to read all the postings, knowing all too well, my case is still to go before Zepeda. I am a mother of one daughter. I have been before the courts for three and a half years. Three times to ask for a restraining order. Then this fall when my daughter was old enough to speak out about what her father does to her during her visits, I once again found myself before a judge, this time Zepeda. Police and CPS reports were substantiated, but once the case went before the Judge Zepeda all evidence and concern went out the window. She obviously is very pro dad. Which is hard to understand in my case, where he didn't show up to court two consecutive times and she just calendered the date out another six weeks. Then when she made a ruling she ordered supervised visits to happen during the ongoing investigation, but was unclear on the details of how and where the visits where to be planned, which was concerning seeing that we live 45 miles apart. She gave the father to decide the supervisor and the psychotherapist of his choosing. But I am to cover 50% of the cost with the psychotherapist. I voiced concerns of the father bringing our daughter back to his home for the visits. His attorney wrote and entire dissertation on my dragging of feet, filled it with lies about me missing visits that even the supervisor was floored. But judge Zepeda ordered that the visits be carried out "with anyone and anywhere the father chooses." What could I do? I was concerned my young daughter would have to go through the emotions of the molestation she talks so clearly about. Also I couldn't trust the father's mother and other family members who were allowed to be there during the supervised visits. I even explained I had received phone calls from that side of the family judging me for speaking out and making unnecessary stirs to their family. Above all, my greatest concern was that it was still unclear where this molestation took place. I was only coming from a concerned parent's position it would have been unwise of me otherwise. Then yesterday, judge Zepeda ruled I was attempting to go against her order and fined me to pay the father's attorney $1000. It was also very clear, she said from her desk, that she does not believe the molestation ever happened and spoke of me in third person as if I wasn't there.She continued to say if I manufactured this against the father I would be held legally responsible for his attorney. I could not dream of creating the hurt and pain that has racked my daughter and me, over the past few months. I am a working single mom, with a pro bono attorney, all I wanted was to be divorce from a abuser. Now I am still waiting on the divorce, and as for child support, I brought that before the attorney at the department of child support and they got right on the ball, in another courtroom of course. I am now waiting for the notes from the 3118, that was also ordered,which is an outside in depth investigation done through family court services. Sadly even with their meticulous work, all could be lost under the flood of an unconcerning judge. Here is a judge who puts asides a mother's nightmare with flippancy,and makes life determining choices for a family, ignoring the history of pain and handing the abuser more power in return.

i have an upcoming court date with this judge and i am a women i am afraid she will order in the father of the lieing manipulative father is there any way to change the judge in my case please help

Have your attorney change it right away. Once you are in her court room you are stuck with her.

If someone has a way to go to Wikipedia and create a page about her that would be a good way to get back at her. She's a complete idiot. I agree that women should not be judges. She must be going through menopause or something...

i just read all of this & am really upset. Judge Zepeda Carrie Zepeda should not be allowed to stay in office and should be disbarred as well and not allowed to even practice law. not only is she ignorant about the law, she is ignorant about what is in the best interest of children. she is up for re-election in 2010. anyone know her home address? i think we should picket outside her home 24-7. for sure the local news would show up. if we were organized enough we could get a lot of support.

I agree that a complaint can and should be filed if her conduct meets the criteria. Problem is, the commission doesn't have much power so everyone who has had a problem with her should file complaints. Those complaints need to be specific and not just "sour grapes" that she did not rule in your favor.
I have witnessed her fail to follow the law, speak inappropriately to clients and counsel, make rulings based on her premature opinion of the facts - before the investigation is complete and the facts are in. She has been described (accurately in my opinion) as stupid and arrogant. She is certainly ignorant of the dynamics of domestic violence and has no use for the law.
Perhaps a more effective way to deal with her, until there is an opportunity to vote her off the bench, is for people assigned to her courtroom to challenge her for cause and get assigned to a different judge.
The code of civil procedure provides two ways to do this - one before she's heard any part of the case and the other (more difficult) to challenge her for cause after the matter has been before her. You can find the statutes online at FindLaw.com . They are California Code of Civil Procedure sections 170.6 and 170.3 respectively.
If everyone starts challenging her, the Presiding Judge will have to do something. I've heard she's in Family Court because no one else wants her - that she was kicked out of criminal for the same type of behavior she is exhibiting in family. It is unacceptable to have bad judges foisted upon our families. But until and unless people take action, it will continue to happen.
Family and Juvenile courts are seen as being the least important and prestigious judicial positions. It is important that those who need these courts speak out in whatever way possible to object to any judge placed there who is not educated in family dynamics, child development, domestic violence and child abuse.
Attorneys are reluctant to challenge judges because it may negatively impact their future clients if they are in front of the judge they challenged. The public has to speak out and challenge this judge repeatedly to get the attention of those who have the power to do something about her.

I have been in the family court for 7 years now. With an ex-husband who continually lies, and continues to abuse through the court system. I too have Judge Zepeda and have found that she has no clue as to what she is doing. As for the question does she have children? Yes she does, because she referred to what ways she has contact with her childrens teacher during my hearing. Also, her address is posted on the internet. Just search for Judges in Santa Clara county there is a website with personal info on he judges. I came across that a couple of months ago. She is an awful judge, who should be disbarred.
