Animal Evacuation Centers:
(Up to date info can be found here: www.sdhumane.org )
The El Cajon Animal Shelter, located at 1275 North Marshall, will be open today to receive domestic pets and small livestock animals for emergency boarding. Donations of cat and dog food (canned), blankets and towels are welcomed for those wishing to help.
Important: Animal Shelters have received literally hundreds of calls in the last few hours from good Samaritans who are offering room, yards, and land for livestock. There is a serious lack of horse trailers to transport these animals. Anyone with an available horse trailer can call the San Diego Animal Support Foundation immediately at 619-847-8755.
The San Diego Humane Society's Animal Rescue Reserve team is currently working with the San Diego County Department of Animal Services to evacuate domestic animals and livestock.
If possible, place your pet in a crate or carrier and bring any necessary supplies including leashes, food, water and medications as supplies at evacuation centers may be limited. More tips can be found online at www.sdhumane.org .
Most Red Cross evacuation centers are accepting pets in carriers.
If you do not have or were unable to pet your pet in a carrier or need pet supplies, bring your pet to one of the following Red Cross evacuation centers:
Qualcomm Stadium ... 9449 Friars Road in Mission Valley
Mira Mesa High School ... 10510 Reagan Road in Mira Mesa

I feel so stupid but I just moved to Carmel Mtn Ranch three weeks ago - and I can't tell by looking at the evacuation sites or by listening to the radio if my area is being evacuated. Most of the shops in my immediate area are closed because the parking lots are being used as command centers. I know the 15 is closed at the 56 - but does anyone know if Carmel Mountain Ranch is being evacuated? There is a lot of smoke but no apparent threat of the fire making its way to this area.

Best as I can tell, everything south of Scripps Poway Parkway, and west of I-15 is under *mandatory* evacuation. North of Scripps Poway Parkway (ie Carmel Mountain Ranch), there's contradictory reports. For sure there is a *voluntary* evacuation, but it's not clear if it has become mandatory yet.

But given how bad traffic is becoming, if it looks bad near you, and you can get your stuff/pets together, it might not be a bad idea to leave now.

We've had a few fires in our community and I've started to wonder if people were starting fires to get the money from the insurance company for their destroyed property. Those people who don't rebuild but take the cash are suspect. Imagine what the insurance companies pay out and how much higher the insurance rates will be.

Well I hear from KUSI that they are finally flying in the planes to drop the retardant/water! Just like Cedar fire they delayed themselves! Now it's getting dark, so they will have the excuse not to continue until daylight! Beauracracy!

A talking head for that section of the tax paid firefighting agency made the excuse that the lingo between the Armed services planes and the firefighting planes is different, and the retardant! I thought they were going to have these things resolved so the next time the other branch was needed, they'd be good to go!

You'd think some bright engineer would figure out a better plane for higher wind firefighting! Another example of the bureaucracy, certain horse haulers weren't allowed! Hey, if it was my horse, I'd take whatever I could to get my animal outta there! Whatever happened to the pioneering mentality, and faith in your own judgement?!

Rancho Bernardo is under a mandatory evacuation order and the fire is engulfing swaths of it. If you have not been able to get ahold of your mother, contact the police/fire dept. immediately.

There's always one sour apple in the bunch. San Diego and neighboring communities have set up a number of human evacuation centers and posted lots of information on them. Not much has been posted about animal evacuations centers, so I did. Get a life and stop being so jaded.
