from the article: "The bulk carrier is believed to be heading north up the east coast and has allegedly failed to stop," said the spokesman....

Oh please ... a bulk carrier to stop???? why should it ... its a heck of lot bigger than her little yacht... and to stop it would take hundreds of metres to do so... Why couldnt she manouver her yacht.. to miss the tanker???

If she was in the shipping lane... the tanker would have more right of way than her.

If she hasnt AIS VHF she had better install it.
Perhaps her parents will put a stop to it all.
She is obviously not up to it.

All sailors know that large vessels due to their bulk have little manueverablity at sea, and that small vessels have the greatest responsibility to avoid colision. Based on reported actions by both , the incident must be considered a failure of judgement and/or equipment on the part of Watson or her vessel.

This girl has what it takes. I know from experience that it can take a serious incident before you really tune in. And what better time and place? It seems she already has the attitude and confidence. And after this embarrassment it'll be pin sharp. Unfortunately she know has the pressure of national judgement to contend with. This will be her greatest test.

What did Motissier say about lone sailing. Something about "If you come out here for the glamour, you will come to grief"

I hope she can heave to under triple reefed main!

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Capricorn

You'll have difficulty finding equilibrium in your emotional life at the moment; try to control the impulsive side of your character. At work, your usual powers of intuition will be clouded. Fits of feverishness may bother you and break down your energy. If you can get out into the countryside for a walk, you'll feel much better.
