Full story: Daily Democrat

As oil companies continue to reap record profits amid strained state revenues, a pair of Democratic lawmakers are hoping to tap into their deep pockets by installing an oil severance tax that could relieve growing pressures to cut more services.

As the climate for private industry in Kalifornya continues to fall and take tax reveues with it, all the Legislature can think of is more taxes.
This new tax will go a long way in the war to end oil prodcution and exploration in Kalifornya.
You can not tax yourself into prosperity. Any new tax revenues are most likely to be squandered. State government has gone out of control like a spoiled child and we are the ones paying the price for it.

Until they can break their collective bad habits and become fiscally responsible I am opposed to giving them any more money through any kind of tax on any business or person.

Why is it the Democrats always want to raise taxes and the Republicans want to lower them. I am tired of being taxed to death and want more reform and no tax increases! It is getting harder and harder to get by, and the Democrats don't seem to understand this.

If CA didn't have the 2/3 budget vote requirement taxes would be much higher.

The Dems have run CA for decades and they've run it right into the ground. Now they're running the country in the same direction. But BOTH parties are at fault and as such you, me, We are responsible.

We the People need to throw away our Rep/Dem party jackets and put on something that's red, white, and blue.

In November 2010 don't vote Rep or Dem, don't vote white, black or brown, don't vote straight or gay, and don't vote us verses them.

and what box would I check to vote for the United States of America? I would do it in a heart beat because I am disgusted with all politicians. As soon as they get into office they forget about their constituents and start campaigning to stay in office. That is what seems to be most important. Raising money for their next campaign.
Wish I had just a portion of that money to help me pay my bills, keep my home, put food on the table, educate my kids -- but government is lopsided.

I agree with you 100%. I'm registered Rep who voted for Obama. Big mistake!

Every politician who's been in office for more then 10 years must go. THEY are the problem. And don't just replace Dems with Reps and visa-versa. The Democratic Party AND the Republican Party must be neutered and voting in a third party would start the process. They have divided our nation against each other when We should be united against them.
