The Delta group should not ignore the communities and farmers along the Sacramento River. It will be the source for water diversion through any canal projects.
A better idea than a peripheral canal would be to convey the water down the westside of the Sacramento Valley and pipe it under the bay and deliver it directly to the pumps at Tracy. It would be gravity flow, most of canal system is already in place and it would protect the delta. The democrats are determined to build the peripheral canal, which would render a lot of the land along the Sacramento River useless due to excessive year round seepage. Of course Jerry Brown and Ron Robbie thought turning that land into a 700 mile long state park would be a good solution. The Sacramento River State Parkway. |

I agree 100% with "Old Guy's"statement. The State democrats, along with Congesswomen Matsusi, would love to get their hands on all the land along the Sacramento River for Parks and Recreation use.

Regarding consideration of a State Parkway, I wonder how the Point Reyes National Seashore ensures existing economic operations and opportunities, including farming, are maintained within its boundaries.

Jerry and Ron knew full well the river is going to be maintaing flow rates that will be the same as flood stage. That will have an impact with seepage as far as 1/2 mile out from the river. Since it would become a year around wetland, that is what the parkway plan was. A one mile wide corridor from Rio Vista to Redding. It would be set aside without provisions for public access. The towns and farms would be forced to sell by act of eminant domain at the lowered cost due to excess seepage. I wish I still had one of their flashy multicolor brochures. |

The recipients of Delta exported water (imported in their case) need to ramp up their self sustainability efforts and build those de-salinization plants, sign everyone up for rainwater catchment systems, recycle greywater and continue with their admirable work in water conservation. Then we can end the exports, and delta communities and ecosystems can survive.

Start thinking about piping water down from Canada. That is, if they will give it to us.

Re piping from CA: Not in a million years would they (or anyone between CA and CA) go for that. One must look within one's watershed for water. I think this lesson was taught in kindergarten - something about not stealing or grabbing from others? Or think how plants and animals are required to adapted to their surroundings, or they die. Think innovation!

Who said anything about "stealing or grabbing from others"? |
||||
OK. They won't be selling it either. We are stuck with our arid conditions. |
