This should make the anti-gay marriage people happy.

Well, I guess all of those weddings planned for Bakersfield this summer had better be rescheduled.

Bwa ha ha ha

Are you freaking kidding me? Bakersfield, may quite possibly be the armpit of CA, and besides that there is NOTHING out there. I'm guessing that this will have absolutely no impact on anybody or anything.

This is a classic case of insubordination.
Fire the loser. And if take away her pension
as well.

Its time for people to stop trying to take the
law into their own hands. The ruling has been
made, you may not like it, but you have to
abide by it or face the music.

I agree that she should be fired. This is what her job needs her to do. No organization or company will keep an employee who refuses to do what he/she is hired to do.

If I was the Kern County Board of Supervisors I would remove this woman from her job as she is now a legal liability to the County through her attempt to force her discriminatory views on those that she is there to Serve as a County employee. And failing that I would place her in a non public contact position after she attended and passed an approved course on sensitivity and the legality and ethical wrongness of her actions. Bigotry has no place in a public position be it governmental or not in this State or in this Nation.

You have got to be kidding!! Take the law into their own hands. What the hell do you think just happened!!? The people of California voted down marriage between same sex! But no, the homo's didn't want to abide by this and took it to court. It was a few judges that twarted the will of the people. THAT SHOULD SCARE YOU!! WHAT'S NEXT??

This woman feels strongly enough about the situation that she tried to resign! It sounds as though she was not allowed to do so, and so, decided that NOT performing that part of her job, at all, was better than to have the County face lawsuits because she WOULD perform this cermony, but NOT that one.

Whether we agree with her stance, or do not agree, I believe we should support her right to choose.

In my opinion, she should have been allowed to resign, and another person chosen and trained to take over that job. Someone who would be more willing than she to tackle that part of the job.

Agreed. No one should be forced to work somewhee that is engaged in something that their religion says is wrong or immoral, she should have been allowed to quit. This is the equivalent of someone who is Hindu working in a butchering plant where chickens are slaughtered and suddenly being told that he (or she) will now be slaughtering cattle... and cannot quit. While I disagree with her personal beliefs, I disagree with Kern County even more for not allowing her to resign.

wison from above: even if the majority of californians vote on something that the supreme court deems unconstitutional it can not become law...and that is exactly their job.

When a public official is elected, they take an oath to uphold the constitution of California and the United states. She is violating that oath if she refuses to do her job.
