High School students learning about grants and loans for continued education is wonderful. I am sure there are many. I guess I wonder how much funding in grant money would be taaken from those with absolutly no knowledge of the English language. Higher education with absolutly no grasp on the English language! That money might be better used to teach them English to begin with. I know children that were born in California, went through school taking advantage of every free program and before and after school tax funded programs. Those children are now in 7th grade and have not learned to read or write in English. The began in pre-school. I guess they will be passed along and go to college also. Why? They and their family have already proven they are incapable of learning English. Who would you say has failed this family? Is it the Americans for not having enough English Learner opportunities, is it the schools for not teaching in Spanish, is it the parents for not learning English themselves, wanting the children to hang onto their Mexican heritage, families that are used to all the additional excuses for lost opportunities as a reason for need? What is it? I already know. I learn through life itself and am not blind, deaf or stupid.
