State and City Jobs aren't something you just apply for and get. some of these jobs only open once every few years, and then you've got to take tests with hundreds sometimes thousands of other people.
The testing only comes after, you've proven that you have all of the years of experience req'd for that position, and your background is clean.

Many people look down at state and city employees when the economy is good, saying that "they Can't make it in the private sector" etc.
Now that the economy has gone downhill everyone is angry at state and city workers because their jobs are the most stable.

Love this. Let them strike, and that will save money. If you can stall the dummies long enough it will close the budget hole.
We could also find that we don't really need these people, wouldn't that be ripe.

That's right- Moron- There are hardworking state employees collecting taxes and keeping the state running for its citizens. With no state employees to run the state, how does it's citizens obtain services like DMV,EDD,Caltrans,ETC. Majority of those in public service are dedicated to doing just that- Wake up people!!!

Not fond of unions especially since they were one of the reason why the auto industry went bankrupt. There are a lot of things broken with this state and one of the things that can be fixed is to abolish the 2/3 majority to pass budgets and to raise taxes. That's why we need a Constitution Convention to amend California's constitution to abolish the 2/3 majority rule. Also this Constitution Convention would take out special interest ballot measures that let voters determine what programs to fund when there are no funds to fund programs that are put on the ballot by special interest groups. www.repaircalifornia.org

You must be some free spending liberal or someone who's hand is in the State cookie jar.

The 2/3 majority to pass a budget is the only thing that has saved the tax payers from disaster, and the State from really going bankrupt.

I don't agree with the unions much of the time, and the state public employee unions should not being going out on strike at this time because of the bad situation the State is in.

However, your name calling is typical of low life uneducated people, who don't have the ability to disagree about something, and to say why.

And what is your solution? Do you enjoy the status quo? California is the only state in the US that requires 2/3 to pass a budget and to raise taxes. Even in flush times, the state legislature has its head up its a ss when it comes to passing a budget which includes borrowing massive bonds. As it is, the State of California IS bankrupt. Enlighten me.

As a hardworking state employee dedicated to serving the residents of this state, I take exception to being called a worthless parasite. Being union or non-union has nothing to do with work ethics. There are many dedicated hard working union workers doing a great job serving the citizens of California. Granted, there are always some bad apples as there are in non union private industry as well, but to group everybody together as worthless parasites,is very ignorant, unfair and unjust.

Well I wouldn't call state workers parasites-- just barnacles that are sinking the state like the Titanic, or termites that are eating up all the money.

I don't have a solution and there isn't any, since California is a third world state and most of those elected to the legislature are free spending liberals. The 2/3 requirement to pass a budget is the only thing that averts a total disaster. Most other states are more fiscally responsible than California, and don't need the 2/3's requirement.

Things would be much better, if all the illegal aliens were deported, but that's not going to happen.

The state has been living on borrowed money for many years now (just like people living off of credit cards); and now income is down and the borrowing is maxed out.

As stated before, every special interest around, has their hand in the State cookie jar, wanting more and more each year. There are way too many freeloaders in society, getting free money instead of having to work for it.

What is wrong with a pension? They pay into it so they can retire at 65 with about 80% of their take home pay which is then taxed. Sounds fair to me. The Administrators and Govt Big Wigs are the ones with inflated pay and benefits yet they like to keep every one's attention off that.

As for the Auto industry, once again it want the unions. The head of GM had 3, count em 3 helicopters and made an extra 5 to 6 million per year as bonuses, Many of the top echelon are, or were paid that way. Most of you all sound jealous like you couldn't get past the entrance exam for work with the state. I'll bet you would have jumped at the chance.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Sagittarius

Watch out. Your mind is working overtime in full analytical mode, but you may be leaping to unfounded conclusions and reading too much into situations. The result of all this is that you might start to suspect someone's honesty or loyalty, and wonder what exactly they're up to. Don't accuse them of anything awful just yet because it may turn out that you were totally wrong about them.
