I can't beleive the mother of Flores is sueing the Smart family for emtional stress. The Smart family is living life without their daughter. Everyday they are reminded that their daughter is death. They can't call her, hug her, or see her. The Flores mother can call, hug and see her son everyday. If anything, the mother of Flores is the one casuing or adding additional stress to the Smart Family.

Hard to say without knowing the truth about the Flores boy. IF he were truly innocent, I could see why his mom would be upset. Yet, she should be able to emphathize with the Smart family's position, being a mother herself.

From the Smart family's perspective - since they don't know, suspicion will always remain. There could be a real gut feeling they are having, with subtle clues that make them feel that way... but nothing the police can act on. THAT would be tough to manage.

The best we can hope for is justice for Kristin Smart, in whatever form that ends up.

My son went to school with both Kristen and the Flores boy. I understand Cadiver dogs went into the Flores boy's room and to his bed after Kristen disappeared. With all the evidence against him, I feel the Flores boy should have been charged with Kristen's murder many years ago. I feel really sorry for Kristen's family. They need closure.

I am floored. How could somebody sue a family that was looking for answers? What kind of people are in this world today? Any reason to sue somebody seems to make it to our courts. I will make every effort to get this information out in my area. Maybe we can have a giant fund raiser so the Smart family does not lose thier home and retirement on top of everything they have already lost. If he did kill her, now he is supposed to get paid for it? What kind of attorney would take this case? I don't even know how to react to such a cowardly act. Very sad. I am sorry that the Smart family must endure more emotional stress, as we all know they are the people who know what that feels like. NOBODY ELSE.

Who cares? She knew the risk of walking home with a guy she didn't know really well, especially from a college party. Always strive for justice, but there is a certain time when things just need to be let go.

She's at the bottom of Lake Cachuma. Sadly, it's been so long that they wont find any evidence after all these years.

PLB...Peterson has already been investigated in regards to the the case. Law enforcement have said on numerous occasions that he was NOT involved.

I'm telling you, Flores dumped Smart's body in Lake Cachuma.

I was at the party the night she disappeared.... even chatted with her briefly there and at a previous party. Regardless if she made an unwise decision that night.... no one deserves what is happening to the Smart family. I pray for closure. And if the Flores woman is really suing the smart family.... I hope she spends every dime on a lawyer ...and loses. That is HORRIBLE.

The Lord will bring justice to all of this. She was the niece of my friend when we lived in California. I would be devastated not knowing where my daughter was. I feel the pain as we almost lost our daughter two years ago. Pray for this family please. they are a good family. I still cannot believe it has been that long. Maybe Scott did have something to do with it.God knows and your sin will find you out .Flores need to be careful

Well GroverBeach.... I will just be strong and write what I think and I sure do not want to upset anyone.
OK/ Yep, so many parties, and so little time to stop and think straight about how important it is to live a low-risk lifestyle. This seems to be a very big problem in San Luis Obispo and across the Nation.
This city has tried to cut back and make changes in just how much late night "party hardy" we want to encourage and/or just let happen on its own. Strict noise ordinances (to break up large, wild parties, changes to Poly Royal (aka "Party Royal"), foot and bicycle policemen in high risk areas, and the restrictions on Marti Graus are four examples that jump into my mind.
The talk I heard during those weeks after Kristin disappeared, was that she had on a tight (pink?)sweater, short skirt, was drugged up, and walked home in the early morning hours. Those who claim to have known her at that time (and my daughter is one) said she was gorgeous, loved to party and to be called "Roxi". When they did find Flores, they claimed he had bruises which he blamed on his sport. He refused to discuss the case and we all wondered why? It made him look very guilty. Anyway, that is (some of) what the "students and other townspeople" were saying at that time.
Here is what I have done since then... I call the police and report parties where people are breaking the law, and when I see any girl or lady all "dolled up" (for lack of better words) and walking down the street alone... at night... my heart goes out to Kristin, her family and friends; I roll down my window and call out to the woman on the street "Where is your ride???? Watch ouuuut... You're asking for trouble...". It is not easy to do it. I feel rude, but I do it. And then... I pray for us all.
Thanks for reading :)

Jack, what a thoughtless thing to say.
I not suggesting that Flores is innocent, but we hear of many stories of people being found innocent of their crimes, serving many years in prison after having been convicted by what appeared to have been conclusive evidence. This is not uncommon. You post a call for vigilante justice... Well, I would suspect that one that would call for such drastic measures is either omnipotent or one that may as well wear a white sheet and hood.
If there is conclusive evidence that would prove beyond a doubt that Flores was the perp, then I am sure that our law enforcement officials will take the appropriate action.

If this guy is not guilty, then I think the parents should be compensated for their torn up backyards after the searches, but NOT for emotional distress.

If he is found guilty, then the Smart family should get to shoot Flores and his parents for raising such a scumbag
