Agreed. The U.S. Forest Service is the #1 road building in this country. They cut thousands of miles of swaths through forests every year to build new logging roads. I seriously doubt the damage being done by off-roaders comes close to the damage the USFS causes every year.

The off Roaders are generally very respectful to the enviroment as they enjoy being out in it. Loggers, and Miners could careless, all they do is rape the earth of it's riches and leave destruction in it's path. Ridiculous!!!

I was at the protest and I can say that it was a great turnout and a successful day. I think a lot more people now know of how close we are to losing our forests. All I can say is this is America, the land of the free. LET'S KEEP IT THAT WAY!~FFC~

The Forest Service is trying to do that everywhere. Idaho trails are under siege and California will lose the few they have. Pretty soon the only ones with access to OUR forests will be the Sierra Club and its environmental friends.

I thought that was what our "fees" where for. What are we charged for if no one uses the money for what it was to be designated towards?

Use Google Earth... see if you can even see the 4x4 trails. They are hard to pick out. Then look at the areas that have been clear cut for logging.
Ridiculous.

If the Forest Service was worried about damage, they'd have more trails open so as to reduce traffic on any one particular trail, if there is even anything that remotely resembles damage. By closing more trails, traffic density is increased, affecting ALL users of those trails. I have yet to see an unhealthy forest due to a road going through it.

so what wrote: so you cant go buzzing around the forest on your little motor bikey...who cares...find another hobby jethro So have you ever taken the time to set down the Soy Milk and Granola bars, and venture into the forest? Doubtful... I live in the Eldorado, and I am an avid offroader AND environmentalist. I pack out hiker's crap in my truck all the time. I take disabled children and elderly into the forest, so they can enjoy what elitist "environmentalists" like you have never even visited...

Our family got into offroading to keep my kids busy, to give them the chance to see and experience things you do not always get to see. Try it you might like it. My children have learned how to experience the positive things in life. This "hobby" as you called it brought alot of families close, gave them quality time with their children. Would you rather the children spend time getting involved with gangs and crime in your neighborhood?

The closure of these public rights-of-way affect more than just OHV enthusiasts. And remember, we off-roaders, anglers, hunters, families, handicapped, and other enjoyers of the forests are the REAL environmentalists. We're the ones who are out there picking up Sierra Clubbers' water bottles and granola wrappers and working with the Forest Service to clean, protect, and maintain these public lands for future generations' enjoyment. The Forest Service was created with the intent to MANAGE the forests for EVERYONE to use, not to CLOSE it for only a select few to enjoy. And remember, the Sierra Clubbers already have all of Desolation and Mokulmne Wildernesses locked up for their exclusive use. People with disabilities, the elderly, young families, and countless others are already locked out of these areas. DON'T CLOSE ANYMORE PUBLIC LANDS!!! Public lands are for Public use! If the Forest Service can't do the job they were commissioned to do, we as the Public and as taxpayers need to organize a group who can!

Most of these "off-roaders" are bay area transplants that gun their nosiy 4x4s and bikes, throw their trash everywhere and tear up the roads. You are right .I am an "elitist" in that I cant stand ignorant, fat republicans who think that they are entitled to destroy the place that I grew up in and love.

So where did you decide that the majority of off-roaders are from the bay area? Very ignorant point of view. The off-roaders care a hell of alot more for the environment we are riding in than the forest service who is looking to log it. And again, where do you get your statistics that all off-raoders are republicans. I heard Gonzales resigned today, go spout your political opinion off in another room.

Give me a break...you are not entitiled to ride around the forest like some retarded yahoo Being America, and that it was a free country last time I checked, we are entitled to ride around the forest, just as much as we hike, fish, climb, etc. I know because I do all these things, including ride, and am respectful about it. It is the people like you, that when I see walking along the dirt trail I am riding down, still give me the finger and a dirty look even though I respectfully slow down to pass. So to you sir, I gun my throttle at thee, and spray a rooster tail of dirt on thee. Good day....I said good day!

You are entitled to ride around the forest like some "retarded yahoo" as you call it, but you choose not too. The difference between you and I is that I choose to exercise all my rights and experience everything I can. Which included riding my ATV in the forest. Like it or not I will be there. My family will be there. And we will do our usual cleaning up of garbage and what not and leaving the forest trails in better shape then how we found them. I hope that someday you will open your mind to other things in life and take a chance. Jump on an ATV and climb to the top of a mountain to see those views unlike any other. I would gladly let you ride one of ours. Are you up for a ride?
