Gee... everyone BUT state employees are getting IOUs. No wonder nothing is getting done. THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE POWER TO TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AREN'T HURTING AT ALL! Start issuing IOUs to the legislature and their staffs, take away their credit cards and you'll see how fast they make enough cuts to balance the budget.

I say lock them up in the capitol with no food or liquids until they pass a budget.

As soon as a few die off, the rest will quickly pass a budget.

Not a pleasant though though they would get to see first hand, and smell, what they have been doing all over all of us.

It is time for the governor, the republicans and the democrats to reach a compromise. No more lines in the sand. Everything is on the table. Everyone must act like adults. Delays are costing the taxpayers, our economy and our business reputation.

Governor, show your leadership by pioneering the FAIR TAX......the Consumption Tax that eliminates Income Tax! That would level the playing field for the legal citizenry who now support Illegal Aliens Who Are NOT Paying Income Taxes. Then everyone would be sharing equally in the state's burden.

According to a June 30th article in The Times, "California lawmakers are the highest paid in the country, get a taxpayer car of their choosing, as well as an unlimited, taxpayer funded gas card. The state has spent $3.2 million during the last three years buying cars for legislators, covering gas cards and paying to repair the vehicles when they break down or are crashed". "Some of the vehicles are worth up to $54,000."

They also get free state-paid health care, a tax free "cost of living" allowance of up to $36,000 per year. This on top of their six figure yearly salary.

So after they spend the tax dollars we the people work so hard to make,(and get to keep so little of), they turn around and cut what few little scrabble of benefits people do get in comparison to what they have. Why? To keep their generous perks while the rest of us suffer with 12% unemployment at lower paying jobs? Where are our cost of living allowances??

How about we take away their perks, cut their salaries by 20%, make them pay for their own cars and gas, like the rest of us, and stop with the "cost of living" allowance to them. One lawmaker's allowance can certainly help support a single family out here.

That would more than help balance our budget and help them get back in touch with the constituents they claim to represent. If we are forced to live on less money, why shouldn't they???

The problem is that there is no personal consequences to the legislature or the governor for not getting the job done. A measure should be passed to force them to pay the Citizens back a portion of their salary for every day that the budget is late!

I think that Kiki is right. If the legislators had to pay for thier own vehicles and gas and had their salary cut I'm sure we could save alot of money. It would help if there were less aides around too. How many do they need and what exactly do they do to help the economy? Also those that have drivers could drive thier own vehicles or maybe car pool like so many others

From the Daily News article..
“Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, who walked out of negotiations earlier in the week, said there did not appear to be any insurmountable obstacles to reaching a deal.”

Unless the Daily News is mistakenly referring to the time she walked out June 30th, this would be the second time she walked out that I am aware of during budget negotiations.(Temper tantrum)

$133,000. That’s her salary and she doesn’t have the cashews to deal with what I imagine is a heated debate about California’s budget? These are discussions behind closed doors with just “The Big 5”– the governor and two leaders from each house. She is the speaker of the assembly. Her walking out does not show leadership but weakness under pressure. Summer recess begins for the legislatures on June 17th and she says “it does not appear to be any insurmountable obstacles to reaching a deal”. Sounds like tax increases to me with her making a comment like that. But wait, she also says the tax payers “Don’t Understand.” Whatever they finally decide up there, I hope after those failed propositions they finally listen to the ‘ignorant voters’ before finalizing the budget.

"Brain dead" Bass was a community activist, and I bet her next move is to play the race card....

"Brain dead" Bass is ONLY upset because she isn't able to pad her union supporters with OUR tax dollars ...

Kick out all of the PRO-union politicians...

You stand to be corrected. It is the state employees who ARE getting the IOU's, just not the legislators.

Why is not this state going bankrupt. A judge could decided who gets what. The poor and elderly need to live. They are acting like the insurance companies if you are to sick we have to cut you off the policy. We do not want you to have cancer or diabetis, or heart disease. it costs the insurance companies to much money. They can not make a profit. The state can not make a profit with the low income seniors and disabled. It is a matter of greed. What we do for our investors. This is what the republicans are doing. They are all greedy and they do not care about your mother or sister or old father.
If they can not keep up let them die. Old folks just lie down and die. You are costing us to much money. What is going to happen to these legeslators when they get old, they are not going too be old. They have no idea of what is happening. They think they will live for ever.
They are not going to get sick. Now the Governor and legislatures want to play God. Who gave them that authority. There is enough to go around. How can they keep lying about this matter. What happen to ARRP who is supose to look after the Seniors. What happen to the GRey panthers, they are to look out for the seniors.?
Not every one has a pention. A car accident can cause you told damage. And you can lose your insurance because they have to fix you up. The insurance company is going to lose money on you.
The insurance companies are telling lies about Universal health care. They are trying to put fear in us. Are we going to stand up and be counted., enough is enough legislators and Governor, we see the forest not just the trees,
Were is your sence of responcibility. Were is your common scense. Ms Bass is trying to do something right and you are hurting here, stop it she is a good person.

The legilislature needs rto make the hard decision and stop spending more than it takes in. We need to cut social service programs to federal minimums, and stop giving free rides to immigrants who have anchor children. The practice needs to stop. If this is not abuse what is? No more tax loop holes for anyone, everyine needs to pay their fair share. Unemployment rising there needs to be a look into the regulatory structure that is not business and job friendly.
