A former Teen Challenge student exposes this abusive Christian alcohol and drug program. Although seen by many as a worthwhile organization, Teen Challenge has a dark side, one of pathological abuse and an obsession with the almighty dollar.

Looks to me like an athiest came to a christian school to try to change the way people with life controlling problems are healed. Sounds like the writer needs some anger management classes and if he thinks he could do better, why doesn't he start his own program. I am glad he is sober but just because the program did not work for you does not mean that it is a bad program. I myself graduated from there about 10 years ago. Kerry Sullivan was my counselor. Though I don't believe in everything Teen Challenge teaches, I can't condemn them because they saved my life and countless others.
Now to be honest, a few years after I graduated I did return to drugs for a short while but quickly came to realize God still had a plan for my life and I needed to get back on the "straight and narrow". Did the program work for me? Yes, I believe it did even though I made a few slips in the years to come. The foundations of my christian walk came from the teachings at Teen Challenge and because the foundations are strong, I was able to pull myself together and get back to leading a Godly walk. Now we are not perfect people. I only know of one. Let me know if you see any others. James |

I could not agree with you more, James. I am familiar with teen challenge. Although I have never had an addiction problem, I know people who have been delivered from drugs through the ministry of Teen Challenge. When I found this site in my search engine, decided I better check it out. Maybe there is something I need to know about this organization.
But not so. This person comes across to me to be antagonistic from the start toward the very One who truly does deliver out of bondage. The dead-give-away is that he obviously resented the guidelines that really are scriptural. If he had that attitude he should have gone to one of the state programs. We dont get help from God on our terms. It is on His terms. Michael, I hope that you make it to true sobriety. |
