1 Some people can't stand the freedom of religion, when it isn't their religion. |

It's "Gomorrah," fool. Misspell again and I'll execute a spelling police take-down on your sorry ass.
Admittedly the Unitarians have a pretty silly catechism: nothing. You could believe in kissing Satan's testicles and get to carry a chalice there. |

And why, pray tell, do you think those cities were destroyed in the first place. I'll give you a hint: Ezekiel 16. Good luck! And stop quoting the Bible until AFTER you've read it! |
I was not quoting the Bible. Sodom and GomoRRah are historical places located in Israel. I know that their primary sin was NOT homosexuality! So does that mean I get a Bible badge for knowing that? |

In addition, I do not want to imply that my confused friends and relatives should have the same fate.

I'm offended by what you wrote. The UU church I joined is the best congregation of people I have had the pleasure to know in my 50 years on this planet. We believe in a great deal. FYI: The Unitarian Universalist Principles and Purposes in Simplified Language We, the congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, promise to encourage: - The importance and value of each person in the world - Fairness and understanding for each person - Acceptance of one another and spiritual growth in our congregations - A free and responsible search for truth and meaning - The freedom to say "yes" when everyone else says "no," and the use of voting in our churches and country - The hope for one world united, living in peace, with freedom and fairness for everyone - The understanding that everything and everyone in our world depends on one another for life This way of thinking and feeling that we Unitarian Universalists share comes from many places: - The wonder that all people experience that makes us feel good about being a part of the world, and the force that is part of us all - People whose lives and the way they lived them make us feel strong enough to try to be fair and understanding when something isn't right, showing love can make the change - Important and wise ideas from all religions - Jewish and Christian teachings that tell us to love our friends and our enemies as much as we love ourselves -- Humanist teachings that guide us to listen to common sense and the results of science, and remind us to be honest in finding our own truths http://clf.uua.org/betweensundays/middlechild... see also: http://www.uua.org/visitors/6798.shtml |

The truth of the sin of sodom and gamorrah:
http://www.vuu.org/sermons/lj070311.pdf The real sin of this story was the practice of inhospitality and common decency on the part of the residents. Politically inflamed and directed mistranslations have led to a homophobic mess and lie around this story. Do you want your axe to grind or do you want the truth. Sadly most Christians would not know the truth if it showed up at their door as an opportunity in the form of an unknown guest...perhaps a gay or lesbian guest. The sin of sodom and gamorrah is that of rudeness to people unknown and to whom the residents did not care to treat in a hospitable fashion. In ancient times, to ignore the needs of a stranger or guest could kill them. Rules of hospitality toward strangers were very different than we can comprehend today. But for the bible touting people in this thread to consider the realities of the culture of biblical times would be to ask them to think about what you are doing. Imagine that people would think first. ....but I probably ask too much |

1 So it's a cult because it isn't mainstream discriminatory christianity? Wow, I can't believe how many people consider themselves christians when they act nothing like one. Blessed Be. |

This is a very nice dissertation on S&G but unfortunately not Biblically correct. God had decided to destroy S&G prior to the angels going into the city to rescue Lot and his family. If you read Genesis 18: 16-33 you will clearly see this fact. Abraham pleads with God that if just ten righteous people can be found in the city, would He not spare the city. All of this occurred prior to the angels appearing to Lot in the city in Chapter 19. As far as inhospitality being the only reason, you only need to reference Jude verse 7 in the New Testament to see what the “other” reasons for the city’s destruction were. Jude 1:7 (NIV) In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. |

Actually, they serve as an example of the kind of stories people made up in Old Testament times to create not our loving, forgiving God but a God who would hate the same people they hated. The notion of God murdering an entire city full of people is foul and dispicable. The notion that God murdered a city full of people because some of them were gay is all the more dispicable...it's also NOT what the Bible says. In fact, the story has nothing whatsoever to do with homosexuality, if it even happened which it almost certainly did NOT. The vicious lie that gays all go to hell has zero backing in scripture, none whatsoever. That you'd refer to it as "sexual immorality" when it's not remotely immoral...a person doesn't choose to be gay, a person who is gay cannot choose NOT to be, it harms nobody, how can it be "immoral"?...and "perversion" when EVERY credible scientific, medical and mental health authority for many years has confirmed that it's NOT perversion...shows that your interest is in bigotry and hate, not in the love of Jesus Christ. There's something deeply immoral about those who use scripture as a weapon of hate. Those who use Sodom and Gomorrah add in the foolishness of having a real lack of knowledge about scripture in the first place. |
Made up story? Huh? You need to do a little more research before you suggest that someone has a lack of knowledge of scripture. Peter references S&G here: 2 Peter 2 6-10 (NIV) if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Jesus references Lot’s wife here: Luke 17:28-32 "It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. Remember Lot's wife! |

Jude called it immoral, I just quoted the verse. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, serously, that is the best you can come up with? A HORRIBLE attempt at insulting me without actually addressing the issue? Typical. |
