My Friend,
I have a Bachelor of Science in Health Science Major with a concentration in Health Care Management. I am a Southern Baptist, so with my credentials noted, this is what I know and believe.
Right now the health care in the United States is in bad shape. Here is a basic explaination:
The health care delivery system in comprised of three interdependent modules which are as follows.
1. Doctors, Pharmaceuticals, and Equipment Manufacturers.
2. Insurance Comapanies
3. The Customers (Patients)
The Customer relies on the Insurance companies to coordinate health care with Doctors and etc.
Mainly because one person couldn't afford the total cost of care on their own. So insurance companies collect money form many, to offer services occassionally to some.
Now Doctors, Pharmaceuticals and Equipment manufacturers must make up the money in which they applied to research and production of their products, but because of greed, they have drastically inflated these costs.
Insurance Companies know this and will settle a claim at a lower price in which they know is more practical, but again the Doctors, Insurance companies know this and raise their prices to compensate for this.
This leaves the everyday American responsible for paying premiums to cover these costs.
Ideally, it would be nice to offer all of this at a marginal rate, but in reality won't happen. Raising taxes could solve the problem, but there are unhonest beneficiaries in the system that abuse health care, so passing on the cost to taxpayers is not quite fair. The best answer to this is to give to a non profit. You are helping people who need it, and the non profit wont make money providing services to those in need.
I hope this helps.
