The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Mormon Church Whines: "Prop 8 Backlash Is 'An Outrage That Must Stop'" - but if the shoe fits ....

Full story: gay_blog.blogspot.com

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is claiming "violence and intimidation" have been toward the Church because of its support of Proposition 8. Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles claimed "the right of free expression of people of faith has come under attack." It seems some Mormons think they should be exempt from criticism if they claim their acts are based on religion. That would be fair if the Mormon Church focused on telling its members how to act. When a church tries to legislative its religious views and turn them into laws that force others to abide by Mormon beliefs, then they loose the ability to claim their "right of free expression of people of faith has come under attack" when people object to their strong arm methods. Whaaaaaaa! Cry some more crocodile tears! I have no sympathy for the church. If you can't take the criticism, then shut your mouth.

Po' thang. Elder Ballard be skeered. Such is the life of a Bully.

If they have any money leftover from prop-H8, maybe they can add some razor wire to the top of the temple fence.

I've never considered the Mormon church to be a real religion. What with the way they pick and choose what makes up their laws & such, they rather remind me of a Cult (like "Reverend Moon" and his people).

All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains,
roll down your lava! for I will come out on top at last.
I have more to boast of than ever any man had.
I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church
together since the days of Adam.
A large majority of the whole have stood by me.
Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it.
I boast that no man ever did such a work as I.
The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints
never ran away from me yet...
When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go." (History of the
Church, Vol. 6, p. 408, 409)

They attacked us thinking that we would just roll over and take it... now they complain and cry that we are making them account for it. Sow to the wind and you will reap the whirlwind.

BettyM They ARE a cult. Their members MUST go through their priests and bishops, their women have a secret name that their husbands must whisper for them to get resurrected (that why a friend of mine backed out before conversion.)They excommunicate members who will not conform to the doctrine of Joseph Smith uber Jesus. Joseph Smith's plagarized Book of Mormon Biblical section was so poorly done,(he claimed it was inspired and the Bible matched it because he was inspired by God)it even incuded the misspellings of te KJV. They claim to be "free" but they are pretty predictably alike. His "channeler" was an "angel" called moroni. Miss one last letter and you get... He was a mason at one time and their rituals are similar. He was not only a polygamist, but a bigamist. The LDS will have all kind of rationalizations of why that's OK.

Check this out. The Mormons in trying to get polygamy legitamized used the Missouri constitution in the same way antiH8 people are when THEY were denied. Isn't it funny how the shoe fits? Funny how they are trying to blow off (a pun?) the anti8 protesters who are relying on the constitution as poor losers,whiners-yet they did the same thing themselves when polygamy was not allowed.Now THAT'S a hypocrit!

I posted this in other forums and so far the only LDS that bothered to respond conveniently said that the leaders can make decision based on revelation (hence the 180 with what I post below. Of course, the church has not issued any statement saying that they received a revelation to support Prop 8:

The Church upholds the principle laid down by the Constitution of the United States that religion and government should be kept separate. The First Presidency (Joseph F. Smith, John R. Winder, and Anthon H. Lund) stated the following in 1907:

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds to the doctrine of the separation of church and state; the non-interference of church authority in political matters; and the absolute freedom and independence of the individual in the performance of his political duties....

“We declare that from principle and policy, we favor:

“The absolute separation of church and state;

“No domination of the state by the church;

“No church interference with the functions of the state;

“No state interference with the functions of the church, or with the free exercise of religion;

“The absolute freedom of the individual from the domination of ecclesiastical authority in political affairs;

“The equality of all churches before the law.”

there-it-is, you've obviously gotten most of your info from websites that rant about the Mormon excesses. I was raised Mormon, and I can tell you first-hand that most of what you're spouting is total BS.

"Their members must go through their priests and bishops." What does that even mean? The title Priest is carried by 17-18 year old boys! It has no authority other than to preside over the sacrement.

Joseph Smith did not promote polygamy, and the only ones who still do are the Reformed Mormons, which IS a cult, not recognized by the formal church.

Now to stop sounding like a devil's advocate, I left the church because I'm gay. I abhor most of their stances and the fact that they are promoting discrimination in the Land of the Free. But if we're going to bash them, get your facts straight. Other wise, you end up being the one who sounds like a Moron.

they are just afraid of the marital competition...of all of the gay people are allowed the equal rights due to them, then there will be less women to go around!! and probably, some of those downtrodden mormon women wouldn't mind switching teams! at least they would finally get some respect and be treated like a human being instead of just a brood mare.

They have a very strange way of thinking about things. Almost everything, in fact. So they get to have free speech to strip rights from a segment of society, but nobody has the right to complain about that fact? Very odd.

I think it quite ironic in fact, that the very same people that whined about not being able to practice polygamy in this country, are the same people proclaiming, "Marriage is between A man and A woman"....
that's almost humorous, if it wasn't so pathetic!
NO, the truth is, THEY BELIEVE marriage is ONE man and about 50 women....one for every week of the year with two weeks off for hunting with the guys!
I wish they'd tell the truth!
The only reason they aligned themselves with the one man one woman policy is that because it gives THEM more credibility with the evangelicals and catholics...they are trying to 'appear' more 'christian'....you know...we are all just one bunch of loving folks...all loving the same god and all...
they don't realize just how transparent and silly they look with nothing on but their magic underwear!

So you're saying Joey only had 1 wife? Seems like he had multitudes, at least from a non-Mormon perspective.

Sighing, aside from the 'rules' or beliefs of the mormon church.. I have first hand and actual dealing with that 'group' on a legal and personal level.
These are VERY despicable people and what they do to non mormons is disgusting.
the 'leaders' of the mormon church are nothing more than little carl rove machines with a mindset to destroy everything and everyone who is "not of the Church of the Latter Day Saints".

There is no distinction between the radical elements of islam and the LDS except for use of bombs or bullets (for now at least).

If violence was used against them, I can't support that. The gay community is better than that and it's not helpful anyway.

Other than that, the Mormans and others of their ilk can go suck it.
