These types of crimes against our children continue on and on. With the vast majority not even being reported according to F.B.I. reports. When are our law makers going to understand that letting these guys(most offenders are male)off with a couple of years. Than returning them back to our community does not work! Medication, punishment have no effect on these criminals. No cure currently means a revolving door of reoffending our children. Adding more victims, who in some cases become victimizers themselves. Ruining these innocent kids and their families. The answer: First time convicted mandatory 25 years to life. If the criminal agrees to volunteer to medical removal of his testiciles, thus reomoval of horrific sexual drive towards children. Prison reveiw board could lesson sentence to mandatory 25 years. However if reoffends than life sentence for 2nd.offense manadory. This is the only way to protect our most helpless members of our society our children and grand children. Any sentence less is a crime committed again against the victim, the innocent child.

I am originally from Methuen and was born at the Bon Secour now known as Holy Family. I was baptized in the now Corpus Christi church which was once Holy Rosary and no I'm not Italian. I now live in Utah and I'm very familiar with the Mormon faith although I now consider myself agnostic with leanings towards atheism. The comments here seem to be confusing the FLDS to the LDS. Personally I would love to see the downfall of all religions including the Catholic church my records are in. It's all about power and control over people but at the same time these polygamists are nothing more than victims of Warren Jeffs just like the Branch Davidians were victims of David Koresh. But yet the government believes we should treat victims (including the children)like perpetrators. All of their civil rights have been denied. They came in with guns, swat team, tanks to an unarmed people who went peacefully all on a phone call that was shown to be a hoax and the records of the call can't even be found. Texas is a rogue state let's not forget JFK was assassinated there.
By the way I use to live across the street to the Mormon church on Hill street and know several Mormons there I know who to talk to I do not believe the Church would allow this to happen had they believed this would happen. Also I know Alan Steed the 19 year old boy married to his cousin Elissa Wall he did work for me at Christmas time he is a nice kid and he didn't even charge me he said Merry Christmas and they don't celebrate Christmas. Now Alan is being charged with rape and he is also a victim. Let's not allow the media to control our beliefs about others. |

The Mormon Church, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" does not practice polygamy. We agree that it is crazy. Isn't it illegal? Why doesn't the state do something about it? |

The media reports whatever will make people cringe, holler, argue, etc. Half the facts are incorrect and the media only chooses what they want to share, with a nice twist in it. Abuse isn't something to make light of, and it definitely isn't something to judge since none of us have all the facts. I think people sue too often in this country...it's always about money. Too bad people can't get on with life but have to try to get some bucks.

but what if it was your child, wouldn't you want the money to help him/her with the trauma and issues. Counseling isn't cheap, maybe a move to a new town? I am not advocating law suits but sometimes they are a necessary evil to protect your family.

was he rehabilatated = how olds the so called child??? oh yeah = alleged abuse= when?? here we go all over again = catholic churches everybody get in line?????? |

Alexandra, you say "lawsuits are necessary to protect your family." What about the mother here? She expected the church to check out the background of this "criminal." Why didn't the mother check him out herself? Why blame the church - do you really expect this church or any church to do a background check on every one of it's members - who would want to go to a church that runs a background check on them.
Seems that this church has a policy to have 2 leaders there and it seems that once the leaders found out they followed some sort of prescribed chain of command to notify the authorities. This mother shouldn't sue the church for not running a background check -she should have run it herself - or at least she should have followed her own church's policy to have 2 leaders with her son. She is the one who broke the rules. |

If these allegations are true it's very sad - but it seems that the "boy" and his "leader" weren't even doing church activities. It seems they originally met at the church, but they were hanging out with the permission of the mother not the permission of the church.
Do we really want churches to be responsible for every disgusting thing their parishioners do? If a Baptist kills someone, should we sue the Baptist church for that too? |

Do a little homework before you make such an ignorant comment. That is like saying the Lutherans are responsible for the acts of the Catholics. FLDS rejected LDS teachings in late 1800's and formed a spin-off sect. They have very little in common with LDS church over 100 years later. Some people ... |
|
on the contrary, one cannot say they are not of us when they get in trouble........ you should be helping them instead of running and denying that they are very much a part of your seed ! |
|
I am not advocating lawsuits, just sometimes they are necessary. You are correct the mother should have followed up and been annoying to staff if that's what it takes to find out who was with her child. My concern is for the child first, get him/her the help they need. Even background checks can be useless. |
