Please greynomo, that's as lame as it get's. The wailing wall is not a place to hold a religious service. There are no funeral's there, no masses there, no wedding's there. A great photo oportunity, completely set-up by the Obama campaign. Wake up and smell the Obamastink.

We aren't talking about a Catholic funeral or an Irish wedding, why are talking about a sacred site for devout Jews.
Is he going to Mecca? Doing so degrades their beliefs and turns their faith into his political platform. I would venture to say that the Muslims would certianly not welcome him for that agenda.
Vistors from around the world have left notes in this wall. Sorry, you didn't get the analogy.

Matthew 6 "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Why wasn't this truly a private prayer, rather than a note left on the Wailing Wall. When did Obamam become Jewish?
Honestly, it misses the heart and rings of hollow hypocrisy to any Christian who believes what Christ spoken in Matthew 6.
I'm not sure who should be more embarassed, Obama or the media. Neither one of the understand that this doesn't swing Christians to his side, rather it smacks of hypocrisy.
It is a tradition for people to pray at the Wall. It is also tradition for people to write out their intention or prayer and place it in a crack in the wall. Posting the prayer in this way is another way to affirm the intention.

I think Obama was sincere in his actions here. What was written was between Obama and his god.

would you like to put your money where your mouth is?......that is if you can take it off of obamas -------- ck

Actually, I am not a betting man. Obviously, though you are no better than a playground bully to insinuate that I would perform such an act, simply because my opinion and support differ from yours.

I say that Obama will win because of this:

1 - His oratory skills. He is a very capabale speaker. He gets the audience's attention, and keeps it. His speeches are memorable. His opponent's speeches are often bumbling, and generally require his staffers to make amendments and qualifications afterwards, further muddying the issues.

2 - His visibiity. While the opponenet is in BFE Ohio talking to small crowds (I'm not saying this is bad, just that it is what it is.) Obama is on the news talking to 200,000 people in Berlin, plus however many more watched it on TV/YouTube.

3 - His message. His message is positive, it is upbeat. McCain continues to spout negativity adn I believe the American people are tired of it. They have gotten it for the last 8 years. Nothing but negativity coming from Capitol Hill (from both sides), and I think we want someone positive in office this time around.

4 - The data. Data shows that nearly always, after a two-term president, the people elect one of the opposite party. It shouldn't take a polical scientist to figure out why.

There are many more and I could go on and on, but I won't. If you refuse to believe, that's your business, but you really should act like an adult and argue maturely. To make accusation towards one's sexuality is the stuff of playground bullies.

Actually it's not a 24 note center for visitors. It appears you don't understand much about the Wailing Wall.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Wall

I also found your analogy to be flawed. You are trying to establish a sacred place for Jews as a wedding, when it is far from that.

Maybe you can tell us, do you go randomly dropping flowers on strangers graves during a funeral in front of their family?

If you do, you would have an argument.

All Obama did was cheapen 2000 years of history to garner votes.

What Obama should have done was visit our wounded troops and tell them he is bringing them home and making sure the hospitals are in tip top shape.

Gina,

Read my above post. This is not 'common'. 2000 years of war have been involved and the Wall is much more than a place for casual note dropping. It is not a memorial, it is considered sacred religious ground.

Was Obama sincere? I think he was sincere in that he wants to show he can accept (almost) any culture (which by an large is a good thing), and this was a big stage to do it on (not so good). I do not think he was sincere towards the Jews or even Muslims, or would have not done this. Given his recent theological departures, I doubt his faith has much to do with any of this.

I tried to find this on line at the various Israeli newspapers printed in English and there was nothing. There was some commenting about his visiting the Western Wall, not all favorable and not all not favorable from Palestinian, Christian or Jew. The same was true of his visit to the Holocaust Memorial.

Something tells me we don't have the whole story.

So how do you suppose Obama gets to the wall unnoticed?
Meh, and all others who missed the point:

Matthew6 didn't suggest Obama could get to the Wall unnoticed. The suggestion was that he make his prayers in private -- alone --*in a closet* as it were.

Public prayers are usually *corporate*, private prayers are for our personal spiritual growth. As a *private prayer*, Obama's was fine; he risked (?) making it public by writing it out and depositing it in a public place.

Written prayers placed in the Western Wall are significant for Jews only. If Obama wants Christians to believe he's one of them he would be well-advised to keep his personal prayers private.

I understand your point. However, the challenge is that this country has more dumb people than free thinkers or rational thinkers... and the media controls the outcome to some degree. In a way, I think media is all about skewing results so they make it "clear" to politicians that they need to collaborate with their free-press state ... is kind'a like a hostage situation for big "ego" type people (a.k.a. Media & Entertainment moguls)

I would take the freedom of free press and would shove it down every news cast personnel and chief executive involved in this frenzy...

Now Obama is more qualified than McCain ? What?

"It's inappropriate that the prayers of a person at the Western Wall should become a subject of public knowledge at all," said Jonathan Rosenblum, a Jerusalem-based analyst of the religious community and director of the Orthodox Am Ehad think-tank, and Jerusalem Post columnist. "There is a rabbinic prohibition against reading other people's private communications and certainly anyone who goes to the wall expects that those communication will be protected."

Another Israeli paper, Yediot Aharonot, published an article Friday saying it had also obtained the note but decided not to publish it, to respect Obama's privacy. Nearly all other Israeli media outlets ignored the story.

I posted let's wait until we find out the whole story for I didn't find it in the Israeli-English papers, until today. This is what I found and a general distaste for Ma'ariv's decision. Shame on them.

It disgusts me. Most Israelis I have been in touch with, as well as Jews, including Rabbi's are very angry at this. It is a betrayal. I hope the
people who control the wall and the specific seminary and the paper take action.
Well

FROM WND'S JERUSALEM BUREAU
Obama camp plasters posters at Western Wall
Advertises Democrat candidate's website, official slogan at Judaism's holiest site

JERUSALEM – Sen. Barack Obama's campaign plastered the entrance to the Western Wall – the holiest site in Judaism – with official campaign posters, WND has learned.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld confirmed to WND posters that adorned police barricades erected at the Western Wall plaza for Obama's visit were distributed by the presidential candidate's campaign.
"These posters were his campaign and not the doing of the police," said Rosenfeld, whose police department coordinated security and provided protection for Obama's visit today to the holy site.
Asked if it was traditional practice for politicians visiting the Western Wall to bring along posters or campaign materials, Rosenfeld replied, "No."
(Reuters/Baz Ratner)
Obama campaign posters can be seen in media footage of the Illinois senator's early morning surprise visit to the Western Wall.
His visit reportedly was not on the official campaign schedule.
(Story continues below)
The posters display Obama's name in Hebrew. One poster erected on the main police barricade used by Obama to enter the holy site boasts the official red, white and blue campaign "O" symbol and advertises the candidate's campaign's website.
A second poster also displays Obama's name in Hebrew and contains an image of Israeli and American flags.
Reuters posted images of the Obama campaign posters showing a handful of people waiting behind the police barricades.
Reuters images had the following caption:
"Supporters of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) stand behind banners printed with his name in Hebrew as they wait for his arrival at the Western wall."
The caption implied supporters brought along the pro-Obama material.
But an eyewitness speaking to WND tells a different story.
"The kids waiting for Obama may not even be Obama supporters. No one knew Obama was coming in advance. We saw the police barricades erected. We saw Obama's face on the posters, and some police said Obama was on his way. So a few people gathered by the barricades and waited for Obama," said the witness.
Obama's media relations department in the U.S. did not reply to a WND phone call request for comment.
Obama arrived at about 5 a.m. Jerusalem time. He wore a Jewish skullcap and placed a prayer in the wall he said he had written. He bowed his head while a rabbi read a psalm calling for peace in the holy city.
According to media accounts, one worshipper repeatedly heckled Obama, chanting: "Obama, Jerusalem is not for sale" and "Jerusalem is our land."
After his brief visit to the holy site, Obama headed for Berlin, where he met with German leaders, including Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. He also delivered a major policy speech in front of Tiergarten Park's Victory Column, a 19th century structure in Berlin capped by a gilded angel.
Phoney photo op's and fantasy reporting by the press is all this guy's really got. No credibility or honorable actions, just fake stand-ins likek the crowd at the Berlin wall speech. Those 200,000 youngsters came to see a free concert right before the speech he wants to make famous! Two of Europes biggest -famous Rock Bands performed for free! Hey man, take a bunch of pictures before they leave, people will think they came just to see me!
So, you want me to believe in a Israeli newspaper? One of the most censured media in the world?
You must be kidding.

Crossing the moral boundary? A note that we all wanted to read, a note that someone grabbed... And we have the unreleased video.

Seconds after Obama left the stones, I recorded a young man gathering notes in his hands in what appeared to be the search for Obama's freshly placed personal note. He is quickly joined by others who unwrap several notes and read them.

An extended, unedited clip (in youtube low-res) available at:
