Does today's economy prove the wisdom of listening to the Watchtower Society doctrine regarding higher education? http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/16/us/job-loss... Job Losses Persist for the Less-Educated By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA Published: August 15, 2012 After suffering the largest share of job losses in the recession, Americans with no more than a high school education have continued to lose jobs during the sputtering recovery while better-educated people have gained millions of jobs, according to a Georgetown University study. Document Georgetown University Study on College Education and Employment.Connect With Us on Twitter Follow @NYTNational for breaking news and headlines. Over nearly five years of financial turmoil, Americans across a broad spectrum have suffered blows to wages, benefits and savings. But when it comes to employment, the crux of financial survival, the study revealed a tale of sharply different economies, defined by education. Even during the recession, as millions of jobs vanished, the number of people with bachelor’s degrees who had jobs did not decline. And even as employment rose during the recovery, people who did not go to college continued to lose ground, shedding 200,000 jobs from early 2010 to early 2012. “The extent of both are surprising,” said Anthony P. Carnevale, director of the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown and a co-author of the study.“The economy we all have in our minds is the one we had in 2006, and it’s gone.” The study, based on data collected by the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, divided the nation’s work force of 140 million people into three groups: those who did not go to college, those with some college education or an associate degree, and those with at least a bachelor’s degree. From late 2007, when the recession began, to early 2012, the number of people with jobs in the least-educated group fell by more than 5.8 million, or 10 percent. In the middle group, recession losses were not as steep and were almost completely reversed by early this year. And in the best-educated group, in which there was no net loss during the recession, the number of people with jobs climbed by 2.2 million, or 5 percent. (The Georgetown researchers relied on the government’s Current Population Survey, rather than on a different government count, Current Employment Statistics. Each has drawbacks, and Current Employment Statistics showed deeper job losses during the recession, but the overall patterns were similar.) The disparity in employment based on education has been growing since the 1980s, Mr. Carnevale said, but “both the recession and the recovery have sharply accelerated that structural change.” The manufacturing, construction and transportation industries, which depend heavily on less-educated workers, had the sharpest job losses in the recession. Those fields are also dominated by men, leading to much commentary that it was a mostly male recession. But the Georgetown researchers found that the sex disparity had narrowed, with women benefiting less from the recovery, in part because they are disproportionately affected by the decline in government employment. The most hopeful finding, Mr. Carnevale said, is that in recent years more men than women have returned to school to make themselves more employable, reversing a longstanding trend. “We seem to have hit the boys hard enough to wake them up,” he said.

Job Losses Persist for the Less-Educated By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA Published: August 15, 2012 What is so sad about this --is that Captains of industry, economist, College Chancellors , HR Directors of any Fortune 1000 company, could have told you this- I like everyone who has looked at the FACTS ALREADY KNEW THIS. It is very sad to see a religion like JW get thrown in with the Amish. Jw are still trying to figure out how College = more and better employment opportunities great article- that can be confirmed 1000's of times over from all sectors of the Employment industry

Still not as good as the inspired scriptures , because God tells us to keep seeking and we will find..and Jehovah says there is hidden treasure in the seeking to find knowledge of him, of life happiness and well being..
Some of the promises ..length of days
discernment..which is part of critical thinking.
health to all their flesh
peace and contentment
LIFE..and life in abundance
Money and the pursuit of money..God says those determined to be rich , pierce themselves over with many pains...but those who seek him, find every good thing.

Those he uses are vessels , its him who is in control. Most education schooling has its basis in men of FAITH, who took vows of poverty and chasteness and gave themselves up to study.. I have just finished watching a program that showed how Monks who left the grind of peasantry of constant work to become men of God, had the TIME to develope their learning skills with Gods help and then branched out into running education schools for the kids of the peasants... they also were some of the first translators of the sacred writings..being very meticulous in making sure the words were exact as they possibly could , relying on God to help them...it wasn't Kings and Princes that saw we got these scriptures it was men of God with God as their Grand Instructor who were the base-line...and men who had made the decision to give up their lives to God to study his word.. This is the basis of all education in the western world..but it has become corrupted as inroads of evil have infiltrated and now has become nothing but self promotion.

It take true FAITH to trust in the words of Jesus Christ. But it always pays off. Delusional! Stop looking to the sky for manna and let these Witnesses earn a marketable skill so they at least have a fighting chance to make a decent living. And stop with the scriptures Gareth. You darn well know God does not put clothes on our backs, neither does he put food on our tables or pays our mortgage. If we want any of these things we have to work hard for them! And what we do have in developed nations are safety nets like welfare, food stamps, and countless charities (non sponsored by JWs) and other programs to help it's citizens, including Jehovah's Witnesses who find themselves in dire need. When those fail, people go to support networks like family and friends. So stop insinuating that Witnesses who go to college to become a teacher or some other profession somehow lack faith. This is a typical jab from a high control group like your sect who plays guilt trips on the rank and file in order to manipulate them. What a shame!

I went to college and grad school for a degree in education and became a teacher. Guess what, I'm not rich. My wife and I both have to work FT to make ends meet for our family of 5. I wonder if Witnesses understand that there are quite a few degrees one can earn that does not make them rich. My neighbor has a degree in human services and in addition to her career job, she's a waitress. I have friends with lib arts degrees who work in factories. And then there's those poor art majors?! LOL! The list goes on.

I wish I had not listened to this organization and gone to college instead. The older I get the more I realize how much more I would have developed as a person. For far too long I lived in ignorance, stuck in this cult. After 12 years away, my mind is free, and I am trying to make up for lost time. But I Am older now and will never get those lost years back For those still in and comtemplating college, go for it. I was told I would never have time for a career in this system of things. I am 57. I am sure you have been told the same. Think about it. It 's not just about money, it 's about an education. You will develop critical thinking skills. If your religion is the truth, it will stand up to scrutiny. Why do you think the WTBS is so afraid for you to go to college? It is because your eyes will be opened and you will see this organization for what it is - smoke and mirrors. Trust youself to discern the truth, and make an informed decision.

Faith gives is PERSPECTIVE and the knowledge that we will live FOREVER makes perusing things like college much less urgent. Far more important is preaching the good news of the kingdom.
