Bible has warnings of false prophets (8/9/12)

I am a retired Lutheran pastor responding to Charles Drey's letter to the editor ("Letter was disturbing," Reading Eagle, July 14).

I share his concern to protect freedom of religion. However, the Supreme Court recently established that the First Amendment freedom of speech does not include a provision that what is said must be truthful. This must also include freedom of the press and freedom of religion.

With freedom of religion also should come religious accountability and integrity. As an intensive student of religious cults for more than 50 years, I can document that the leadership of many religious groups has deceived both their members who are sincere in their search for truth and nonmembers with deception, changing histories, coerciveness and often tragic consequences.

For many years I attended annual weekend conferences of former Jehovah's Witnesses. I listened to their stories of pain and disillusionment after learning how deceived they were. I have close friendships with ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, one of whom served on the Central Committee of the Watchtower Society. I have read voluminous amounts of materials, listened to and watched numerous audio-visual aids prepared by ex-Jehovah's Witnesses. The Internet is a good resource.

The Bible has many warnings about deceptive religion. Jesus said, "Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves" (Matt.7:15). Warning my neighbors about ravenous wolves is one way to love both of them.

What a joke...

Hypocrite! First extract the rafter from your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to extract the straw from your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:5

Therefore God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonored among them, even those who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and venerated and rendered sacred service to the creation rather than the One who created, who is blessed forever. Amen. That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error. Romans 1:24-27

1 John 4 [2] You gain the KNOWLEDGE of the inspired expression from God by this " every inspired expression that confesses Jesus Christ as having come in the flesh originates with God"

[8] We [APOSTLES] originate with god . He that gains the knowledge of God listens to us [writers of the new covenant-Apostles] he that does not originate with God, does not listen to us . This is how we take note of the inspired expression of truth and the inspired expression of error."

Is that parenthetical statement adding to the word of God, in your mind?

False prophets or false shepherds are identified in the Bible as being blind to the truth, they tell people what the people want to hear. They tickle the ears of their listeners.
Matthew 15:14

That sure isn't Jehovah's witnesses, you see we tell people what the Bible says, what God wants them to know before he brings an end to this unrighteous world ruled by Satan the Devil. 2Peter 3:11

Those who are bent that Jehovah's witnesses have given false dates for Armageddon, are focusing on imperfect human understanding. Among these people are the ones who are removed by Jesus, because they can't give up this world and everything in it, as true Christians, Jehovah's witnesses have proved they can. James 4:4

Jehovah's witnesses are false prophets, their fruitage testifies to that, they've also gathered to have their ears tickled. The many false dates can't be explained away, only whitewashed. That is why the coating needs replenishing every now and again. The Phony witnesses will have their comeuppance along with everyone else.

..... There all sorts of warnings by many, including to be aware of confidence trickery.
..... There are very many belief systems all over this planet, with their supporting literature, and anyone can invent some more. There are far too many people who keep them "alive and kicking" by paying a lot of money to clergy of all kinds for centuries.

One of the foremost ways Satan can, and and does deceive people, is by means of the many false religions. Thats why truly honest-hearted ones will search for the True religion that is following the Bible as the Creator Jehovah GOD meant it to be followed...in the Footsteps of his Son, who gave his perfect life as a Ransom.

You are right Nomi, a truly honest hearted person will search for the true religion that follows the bible. That is exactly what I did, and your fellow brothers and sisters now shun me for doing exactly what you said a truly honest hearted person searching for the truth would do. I follow Jehovah and Jesus and obey them to the best of my ability, but I am shunned by your religion? Please explain to me how that works. Even an awake magazine told people to seek out the truth for themselves, yet when a person does, they become shunned? I do not understand how that works accept to say that they mean if you are of another religion you an do it, but not if you are a JW? Sorry Nomi, it does not work that way, if you are in a religion that you find many things wrong with, NO way should you stay in it. There is not ONE true religion on the face of this earth today. We find our salvation in Jesus himself. We will be judged on our own wrongs and our own rights when the time comes. We will not be judged on what religion we were here on earth.

Actually the focus is on what the wt says applies to OTHER DENOMNATIONS

THERE SHOULD not be two sets of standards

your religion said the following:

"True, there have been those in times past who predicted an "end" to the world, even announcing a specific date. Yet nothing happened. The 'end' did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? What was missing? Missing from such people were God's truths and the evidence that He was using and guiding them.''(Awake, Oct. 8, 1968)

The wt did exactly what other denomnations did in trying to predict the end of the world

The wt calls itself a Prophet, there are only two types of prophets

one who gets the message correct and one who gets the message wrong

like so much of the wt that is presented as Fact, Truth, being from the bible, at the end of the day it repeatedly turns out to be what you well called:

"imperfect human understanding"

Who want's imperfect human understanding being presented as BIBLE TRUTH OR THE DIVINE LAW OF GOD, OR FOOD FROM GOD

when it merely is the Opinion of the WT editorial staff

if the wt wants to do bible commentary i think that is wonderful. but don't call imperfect human understanding FOOD FROM GOD
THAT IS ALL I AM SAYING

Daniel Patrick Moynihan -

"Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts

THE WT CAN'T JUST CALL STUFF FACTS CAUSE THEY WANT TO

you can't make asinine statements like this an really expect to be taken seriously as a student of the bible

the wt made the following asinine statement some 30-40yrs ago to teenagers

"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things."

That is why Jehovah's witnesses stick with what the Bible says, the Watchtower authors are men who are placed in that position by Jesus, we have to believe that Jesus is using men as the faithful and wise servant over the household of Jehovah God, and feeding all of his servants.

They are still imperfect and ordinary men, they are not perfect, they can make mistakes just as the apostles did.

(Matthew 24:45-47). . .“Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?

"That is why Jehovah's witnesses stick with what the Bible says"

Let's test that out...

Do you stick with this?

The one who believes in the Son HAS eternal life, but the one who refuses to believe in the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.
John 3:36

How about this?:

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.

show a scriptural answer to that question. I say it is a rhetorical question meant for personal reflection. You, as an organization, say it is a question to be answered by a group of men in Brooklyn, or wherever they are now. I have looked, and can't see any illustrations pointing to such a thing. Can you? If you can show it, show it. Otherwise all you have is pretenders applying scripture to themselves without any real evidence, or track record to back it up.

. Why is it that the FDS always is looked for in earthly men..?? When origially Christ left it in the hands of the Apostles.. WHO .. Are perfectly capable of feeding us at the proper time.. From their position in heaven.. One wonders why they bothered to pen the greek scriptures for our guidance and to feed us..
And yet.. there are many ..who are now getting out of Babylon the great and turning to God's word in the manner that his word has told us to do..

Jw's stick to the bible they wrote. If Jw's are imperfect and the jw org. is imperfect, how can they disfellowship anyone? That's like a kettle calling a pot black!

They want the respect power and accolades of a prphet of God,but none of the resposibility. And JWs will fight tooth and nail for an organisation that feeds their ego and steals their Christian freedom telling them they are right and will survive the great day of God and 99.99 wont. Its truly sick and sad.

Jesus Christ will do the separating work someday, but today he is doing the gathering work of those who will obey his requirements as King of kings in heaven. These people are compared to sheep or goats.John 10:14

Your judgement is on your own head, you have the Bible and you know that Jesus said his sheep would be one flock together, united and in agreement, that lets you out of that picture of Jehovah's witnesses.

Jesus was Jehovah's witness, and he set the perfect example for us, the book of Revelation identifies the faithful servants of Almighty God Jehovah, as a great crowd declaring good news of Almighty God Jehovah with Jesus as King of God's Kingdom and as his judge over this earth.
Rev. 14:7,8
