HRCP concerned over violence against women in Pakistan

http://zeenews.india.com/news/south-asia/hrcp...

Islamabad: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has voiced "alarm" over increasing violence against women in Pakistan.

The HRCP said it has "watched with grave concern" the rising incidence of violence against women in Pakistan in recent days.

"Unfortunately, such incidents have always been commonplace in the country but now such reports are coming not from far-off places but from the main cities. Several cases of rape have been reported from the Punjab in the past few days, including that of the five-year old child," it said.

In the city of Lahore alone, police had registered 113 cases of rape from January 1 to August 31 this year, it said adding over the same period, 32 gang-rape cases were also registered.

According to media monitoring by HRCP, a NGO, until the end of July this year, at least 44 women had become targets of acid attacks, seven of whom had died as a result of their injuries.

As many as 44 women had been set on fire, 11 had died in such attacks. Nearly 451 women had been killed in Pakistan in the name of honour in 2013 by the end of July, compared to 918 killed in 2012.

Meanwhile, an official report say rape incidents have drastically increased in the last two years.

Damning figures in HRCP report on violence against women

http://dawn.com/news/1043752/damning-figures-...

Violation against women is widespread in Pakistan and exists in various forms be it domestic violence and abuse, sexual abuse and harassment, acid attacks, honour killings, restricted freedom of movement to downright barring of women from casting their votes in the elections.

The Commission in its statement said:“HRCP has watched with grave concern the rising incidence of violence against women in Pakistan in recent days. Unfortunately, such incidents have always been commonplace in the country but now such reports are coming not from far-off places but from the main cities."

Several cases of rape have been reported from Punjab in the past few days, including that of a five-year old child.

To give an idea of the scale of the problem, in the city of Lahore alone, police have registered 113 cases of rape from January 1 to August 31 this year.

In the same period, police in the provincial capital of Punjab registered 32 gang-rape cases.

Most of the victims were teenage girls.

The problem in hardly confined to Punjab.

The plight of Kainat Soomro, a young rape victim in Sindh, and the excesses she has had to endure in her efforts to bring her tormentors to justice are there for all to see.

Her ordeal represents how rape victims who have the courage to pursue their rapists are left to fend for themselves.

Violence against Women in Pakistan

http://pakistanwoman.org/violence_against_wom...

Pakistanwoman.org provides comprehensive information regarding violence against women in Pakistan and you can also finds the stories of Pakistani women who are the victims of violence which they faced from male members of their families and tribal feudal.

The inequity of women’s status and rights at all levels of society and discrimination against women in several forms remain a matter of serious concern world-over, particularly in Pakistan. You can read daily stories in which shows the violence against women in Pakistan especially in rural areas. A majority of women in Pakistan live in a world structured around strict family and tribal customs that essentially force them often to live in “Char Divari,” submission and overall fear. They are subjected to discrimination and violence on a daily basis due to the cultural and religious norms.

The customs of Karo-Kari2, Vani or Soowa3, Watta Satta (exchange marriages), marriages with Quran and the problems of dowry and divorce still trouble the mind of any woman who belongs to Pakistan especially its rural areas. NGOs, human rights organizations and social organizations fighting against the women violence in Pakistan and also protesting against the exploitation of women, under several social practices and customs but they can't get the object unless the society, as a whole, changes its behavioral attitude towards women.

It is the responsibility of the government to create awareness about the laws and obligations to review the social approach towards the role of women in this society and the government could use all its channels, including the electronic media, to stop the violence against women in Pakistani society.

Sexual violence against womenin Pakistanis very common and irony is that mostly people do not take notice of the common things/acts. Sexual violence against women in Pakistan carried out under the old jirga system. We can see the Mukhtar Mai’s case in Muzaffargarh District of Southern Punjab which is an example in this regard.

Violence, Discrimination Against Women Rises in Pakistan

http://www.voanews.com/content/violence_discr...

ISLAMABAD — A local women's rights group in Pakistan says the number of incidents of violence against women in Pakistan has increased at least seven percent over the past year. The impact of violent gender discrimination is being deeply felt in a number of ways in Pakistan.

Thousands of women are kidnapped, murdered and raped in Pakistan every year, says Pakistan’s Aurat Foundation, a group that monitors media reports for acts of violence against women.

According to Aurat’s latest report, Pakistan’s infrastructure problems and ineffective justice system, together with age-old cultural practices, means that violence against women is not being addressed.

Do You Know?

Four of every five women in Pakistan face some form of domestic abuse, says a strategy paper. Source: Published in The Express Tribune, March 2nd, 2011.

Majority of mind set says that,‘Women are for sex, cooking and house work’. The root causes of this problem are; illiteracy, unawareness of spiritual teachings, reluctance to follow ethical/moral values, false practices of olden days, dominancy mind-set, use of alcohol/drugs and unemployment etc.(Source: CGDC Rural Rapid Survey in Sindh).

The big problem about VAW is that no one talks about it. Mostly women feel reluctant to share what’s happening to them as they feel threatened and afraid to face more violence. They also feel shame of being abused and often double minded by false justifications by male for doing abuse with them.

CGDC is creating an alliance of 40 organizations to speak up jointly to denounce violence against women. As of June 2012 we have 12 organizations on board and it’s just one month we have launched the project.

The alliance will jointly hold awareness meeting at different place all over the country, use many different pictorial and interactive publications and plan advocacy initiatives together. CGDC believes that silence protects the violent. But together, we act to restore relationships and prevent violence against women. The alliance activity will serve around 2000 beneficiaries directly and around 8000 indirectly.

CGDC also plans to hold a national conference by end of this year on violence against women.

It doesn't debunk anything at all. Just because other males commit crimes doesn't take away from the fact that muslim men perpetrate crimes against women every single day.

You even perpetuated crime against women by telling me that women belong in the kitchen. Also, by trying to bully me into leaving.

Make sure what you post relates to islam, or it can be removed as spam!

Tackling religious intolerance and violence in Pakistan
By Saima Mohsin, CNN
Tue September 24, 2013

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/24/world/asia/paki...

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN)-- All Saints Church was designed to look like a mosque -- to symbolize unity amidst a community of many religions. Completed in 1883, it was built within the old walled city of Peshawar during a century of relative peace and harmony.

But the weekend bombing of the historic church has yet again highlighted the intolerance, lack of security and carnage today's Pakistanis face. These are challenges successive governments have failed to address and deal with decisively.

A splinter group of the militant Islamist Pakistan Taliban claimed responsibility for the church attack that left 86 people dead, more than 120 injured and hundreds of lives shattered.

"This is the deadliest attack on a church and the Christian community in Pakistan's history," said Human Rights Watch country representative Ali Dayan Hasan.

Included among the dead were women and children, members of the church choir and "Sunday school students -- aged between just 4 and 8 years old," according to the Bishop of Peshawar, Humphrey S. Peters.

Women grapple with violence in Pakistan

Meena Menon September 16, 2013

http://www.thehindu.com/news/international/so...

While the rape of a five-year-old girl in Lahore has sent shock waves, about 7516 cases of violence against women were reported in 2012 in Pakistan, with honour killing and suicides forming the majority of cases, apart from 822 cases of rape.

The most known case was that of Malala Yousafzai who survived shots in her head and neck and lived to tell the tale.

However, many others were not as lucky. Women from minorities and ethnic groups suffered crimes, documented by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

A qualitative review by Aurat Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has included these figures in an annual report titled “Beyond Denial”.

It has data from the four provinces, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA); and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), for 2012. About 63 per cent of the cases were reported from Punjab.

Crimes like murder, domestic violence, and acid throwing increased between 2010-2012 and the cumulative number of women and girls who died between 2008-2012 due to murder, honour killing and suicide, among others, is 13,583, the report said.

For 2012, the crime numbers are lower than the previous year but in the absence of authentic verifiable figures it is hard to tell if that’s an improvement. In 2011, 8,539 cases were reported while for 2010 it was 8,000 cases.

In the absence of official data, news reports on violence from 26 publications formed the basis of this report.

Pakis do commit crimes but not as much as blacks. You've gotta be delusional as phukk to actually compare the two. The Taliban are a terrorist organization with a motive. Whereas blacks are wild animals and have been enslaved by their own people. Again pakis are violent but not as violent as blacks.

Sectarianism in Pakistan

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sectarian_violen...

Sectarian violence in Pakistan refers to attacks against people and places in Pakistan motivated by antagonism toward their sect, usually a religious group, which in Pakistan may include the Sunni majority, Shia, and the small Ahmadi, and Christian religious groups. According to the human rights group Human Rights Watch, in 2011 and 2012, Pakistan minority groups Shia, Ahmadi, and Christians "faced unprecedented insecurity and persecution in the country". Attacks on Sunni Sufi shrines by "militants" have also been reported.

"militants" means muslims.

Pakistan violence drives armored vehicle demand
September 26
By ADIL JAWAD
Associated Press

http://www.kansascity.com/2013/09/26/4508815/...

KARACHI, Pakistan — Fifteen-foot walls and nearly a dozen armed guards protect Nadeem Khan's palatial home in the most upscale neighborhood of Pakistan's largest city. When it comes to getting around town, though, Khan prefers to travel as low-profile as possible.

Surging violence by criminal gangs and Islamic militants in Karachi has sparked a demand for more armored vehicles to protect wealthy businessmen, politicians and their families.

"I feel safer for myself and my family to travel in an armored car, and it's better than travel with a contingent of security guards in a separate vehicle for people who don't want unnecessary attention," said Khan, vice president of one of Pakistan's largest pharmaceutical companies.

Karachi, a city of 18 million people, has a long history of violence, much of it associated with gangs linked to the city's main political parties. Recent years have been especially bloody. There were 2,174 people killed in Karachi last year, according to the Citizens' Police Liaison Committee, the deadliest year since the organization began collecting figures in 1994.

You're talking about many isolated incidents. Blacks on a whole are 10 times more violent. Can you explain how blacks are only 13% the population and 60% of the crime rate. More black Americans are in jail than in college. Can't say the same for paki Americans. I'd really want you to shed light on this instead of ignoring it and posting more links.
