History of Wife beating
The influences of the Middle Ages and Christianity on wife beating are discussed. Men have beaten women for centuries and have avoided the severe and just consequences for their actions. Domestic violence has been an acceptable, clandestine method of behavior. In 1985, Dickstein and a team of paleopathologists from the Medical College of Virginia identified massive skull fractures among mummies 2000-3000 years old. They found that: * 30-50% of the skull fractures were women * 9-20% of the skull fractures were men In primitive societies, women had great power in clans and held honorable and esteemed positions. Their power resulted from their ability to create life. However, through the passing of civilizations, women soon realized that the threat of rape and economic survival were realistic factors forcing them in to seek monogamous relationships (Engels, as cited in Sonkin, 1987). Engels acknowledged how “women paid dearly for the personal protection they sought”. Documentation of Wife Beating Documentation of family violence dated back to the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages. The writings revealed wife beating was a common method used to administer punishment to women. Punishment resulted from women’s voicing of opinions, showing anger, disobeying their husband, or choosing to escape the drudgery of their life’s existence. Change of the Family Hierarchal Structure With monogomony, a restructuring of the family hierarchy was challenged. The father became head of the household. Strict moral demands were placed on women; however, the male had the same privileges of polygamy and infidelity. An elevated almost saint-like power was bestowed upon the male in the home. A woman’s activities were heavily guarded in order to authenticate her husband’s honor or integrity. Influences of Christian Beliefs on Wife Beating Christianity encouraged the male domination in the family system. The husband, for the cleansing and the uplifting of the woman’s soul administered wife beatings on a regular basis. Women were denigrated, considered unworthy, deceptive, lacking intelligence, and inferior. Women’s submission and obedience to men was formed from the Christian belief that Eve from the Garden of Eden, deserved to be punished for the seduction of Adam. Women’s bodies were primarily required for the bearing of children and man’s needs and desires. Men held the opinions that they alone, had intelligence and integrity, deserving respect. Men were allowed to slap, shove, bite, pinch, throw objects, and pull women’s hair. Due to the emergence of the feminist movement, women gave publicity to wife beating. They developed an awareness of the victimization of women and the non-constitutionalism of the American Justice System. In 1970, legislation voted that assault and battery within the family, was considered a crime. Justification was now provided for women to leave abusive relationships. Until this moment in history, the phenomenon of wife beating was invisible. |

I never went to madrassa and i hope i'll never go there, i was taught by The Quran. It has everything regarding Islam. I never call US citizens infidels, for me the infidels are sunnis and shias and wahabis, US citizens are good, US government is the one i deisagree with. That is why i'm fighting FOR women, to make a world a better place to live for the future generations. God willing. I hope you are not alone in your struggle. Are you accepted by other muslims? Are you part of a mosque or a movement? Do you understand why we Americans have a hard time trusting muslims? We have been told muslims lie as a matter of course to any non-muslim because lieing is not a sin in islam if it is to a non-muslim.Never the less, I take you at your word. The only other muslim I have any knowledge of is Sufi, which seems to be a bit more cheerful then islam straight, and has good music to boot |

I was in UK last 15 months and was actually banned from a mosque because i didn't accept what sunnis there believe. They were forcing me to acdept sunna and hadeeth and because i refused, they banned me. I totall understand why USA has a hard time trusting anyone and i also understand why most people insult Islam, God, prophet, The Quran, why those soldiers tortured Iraqis, shot Quran and all thats tuff, i disagree with it but i understand. It's because of hadeeth books that Islam gained such bad image and becuase of these sunnis who use to be Muslims but deviated and rejected The Quran in favor of hadeeth books, now everyone thinks that Muslims are like what you see today. Summary Answer: Muslim scholars teach that Muslims should be truthful to each other. There are two forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, taqiyya and kitman. One of those circumstances is to gain the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them. The Qur'an: Sura (16:106)- Establishes that there are circumstances that can "compel" a Muslim to tell a lie. Sura (3:28)- This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to "guard themselves." Sura (40:28)- A man is introduced as a believer, but one who must "hide his faith" among those who are not believers. Sura (2:225)- "Allah will not call you to account for thoughtlessness in your oaths, but for the intention in your hearts" Sura (66:2)- "Allah has already ordained for you,(O men), the dissolution of your oaths" Taken collectively these verses are interpreted to mean that there are circumstances when a Muslim may be "compelled" to deceive others for a greater purpose. From the Hadith: Bukhari (52:269)- "The Prophet said,'War is deceit.'" The context of this is thought to be the murder of Usayr ibn Zarim and his thirty unarmed men by Muhammad's men after he "guaranteed" them safe passage (see Additional Notes below). Bukhari (49:857)- "He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar." Lying is permitted when the end justifies the means. Bukhari (84:64-65)- Speaking from a position of power at the time, Ali confirms that lying is permissible in order to deceive an "enemy." Bukhari (52:271)- Recounts the murder of a poet, Ka'b bin al-Ashraf, at Muhammad's insistence. The men who volunteered for the assassination used dishonesty to gain Ka'b's trust, pretending that they had turned against Muhammad. This drew the victim out of his fortress, whereupon he was brutally slaughtered despite putting up a ferocious struggle for his life. From Islamic Law: Reliance of the Traveler (p. 746)- "[it is] obligatory to lie if the goal is obligatory... Whether the purpose is war, settling a disagreement, or gaining the sympathy of a victim legally entitled to retaliate... it is not unlawful to lie when any of these aims can only be attained through lying. But is is religiously precautionary in all cases to employ words that give a misleading impression..." Additional Notes: Muslims are allowed to lie to unbelievers in order to defeat them. The two forms are: Taqiyya - Saying something that isn't true. Kitman - Lying by omission. An example would be when Muslim apologists quote only a fragment of verse 5:32 (that if anyone kills "it shall be as if he had killed all mankind") while neglecting to mention that the rest of the verse (and the next) mandate murder in undefined cases of "corruption" and "mischief." |

Though not called Taqiyya by name, Muhammad clearly used deception when he signed a 10-year treaty with the Meccans that allowed him access to their city while he secretly prepared his own forces for a takeover. The unsuspecting residents were conquered in easy fashion after he broke the treaty two years later, and some of the people in the city who had trusted him at his word were executed.(See Sura (9:3)-("...Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters...")
Another example is when Muhammad tricked the leader of an opposing tribe with whom he was not at war to leave his town on the pretext of meeting with him at Medina. Usayr ibn Zarim traveled with thirty men who were unarmed because of Muhammad's guarantee of safety. They were easily massacred by the prophet's Muslim assassins. The 9/11 hijackers practiced deception by going into bars and drinking alcohol, thus throwing off potential suspicion that they were fundamentalists plotting jihad. This effort worked so well, in fact, that even weeks after 9/11, John Walsh, the host of a popular American television show, said that their bar trips were evidence of 'hypocrisy.' The transmission from Flight 93 records the hijackers telling their doomed passengers that there is "a a bomb on board" but that everyone will "be safe" as long as "their demands are met." Obviously none of these things were true, but these men, who were so intensely devoted to Islam that they were willing to "slay and be slain for the cause of Allah" (as the Qur'an puts it) saw nothing wrong with employing Taqiyya in order to facilitate their mission of mass murder. The near absence of Qur'anic verse and reliable Hadith that encourage truthfulness is somewhat surprising, given that many Muslims are convinced that their religion teaches honesty. In fact, it is because of this ingrained belief that most Muslims are quite honest. Finally, the circumstances by which Muhammad allowed a believer to lie are limited to those that either advance the cause of Islam or enable a Muslim to avoid harm to his well-being (and presumably that of other Muslims as well). Although this should be kept very much in mind when dealing with matters of global security, such as Iran's nuclear intentions, it is not grounds for assuming that the Muslim one might personally encounter on the street or in the workplace is any less honest than anyone else. |

Dar al-Islam and dar al-harb: the House of Islam and the House of War The violent injunctions of the Quran and the violent precedents set by Muhammad set the tone for the Islamic view of politics and of world history. Islamic scholarship divides the world into two spheres of influence, the House of Islam (dar al-Islam) and the House of War (dar al-harb). Islam means submission, and so the House of Islam includes those nations that have submitted to Islamic rule, which is to say those nations ruled by Sharia law. The rest of the world, which has not accepted Sharia law and so is not in a state of submission, exists in a state of rebellion or war with the will of Allah. It is incumbent on dar al-Islam to make war upon dar al-harb until such time that all nations submit to the will of Allah and accept Sharia law. Islam's message to the non-Muslim world is the same now as it was in the time of Muhammad and throughout history: submit or be conquered. The only times since Muhammad when dar al-Islam was not actively at war with dar al-harb were when the Muslim world was too weak or divided to make war effectively. But the lulls in the ongoing war that the House of Islam has declared against the House of War do not indicate a forsaking of jihad as a principle but reflect a change in strategic factors. It is acceptable for Muslim nations to declare hudna, or truce, at times when the infidel nations are too powerful for open warfare to make sense. Jihad is not a collective suicide pact even while "killing and being killed" (Sura 9:111) is encouraged on an individual level. For the past few hundred years, the Muslim world has been too politically fragmented and technologically inferior to pose a major threat to the West. But that is changing. Taqiyya -- Religious Deception Due to the state of war between dar al-Islam and dar al-harb, reuses de guerre, i.e., systematic lying to the infidel, must be considered part and parcel of Islamic tactics. The parroting by Muslim organizations throughout dar al-harb that "Islam is a religion of peace," or that the origins of Muslim violence lie in the unbalanced psyches of particular individual "fanatics," must be considered as disinformation intended to induce the infidel world to let down its guard. Of course, individual Muslims may genuinely regard their religion as "peaceful" -- but only insofar as they are ignorant of its true teachings, or in the sense of the Egyptian theorist Sayyid Qutb, who posited in his Islam and Universal Peace that true peace would prevail in the world just as soon as Islam had conquered it. A telling point is that, while Muslims who present their religion as peaceful abound throughout dar al-harb, they are nearly non-existent in dar al-Islam. A Muslim apostate once suggested to me a litmus test for Westerners who believe that Islam is a religion of "peace" and "tolerance": try making that point on a street corner in Ramallah, or Riyadh, or Islamabad, or anywhere in the Muslim world. He assured me you wouldn't live five minutes. {A} problem concerning law and order {with respect to Muslims in dar al-harb} arises from an ancient Islamic legal principle -- that of taqiyya, a word the root meaning of which is "to remain faithful" but which in effect means "dissimulation." It has full Quranic authority (3:28 and 16:106) and allows the Muslim to conform outwardly to the requirements of unislamic or non-Islamic government, while inwardly "remaining faithful" to whatever he conceives to be proper Islam, while waiting for the tide to turn.(Hiskett, Some to Mecca Turn to Pray, 101.) Volume 4, Book 52, Number 269; Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: The Prophet said, "War is deceit." |

Historically, examples of taqiyya include permission to renounce Islam itself in order to save one's neck or ingratiate oneself with an enemy. It is not hard to see that the implications of taqiyya are insidious in the extreme: they essentially render negotiated settlement -- and, indeed, all veracious communication between dar al-Islam and dar al-harb -- impossible. It should not, however, be surprising that a party to a war should seek to mislead the other about its means and intentions. Jihad Watch's own Hugh Fitzgerald sums up taqiyya and kitman, a related form of deception.
"Taqiyya" is the religiously-sanctioned doctrine, with its origins in Shi'a Islam but now practiced by non-Shi'a as well, of deliberate dissimulation about religious matters that may be undertaken to protect Islam, and the Believers. A related term, of broader application, is "kitman," which is defined as "mental reservation." An example of "Taqiyya" would be the insistence of a Muslim apologist that "of course" there is freedom of conscience in Islam, and then quoting that Qur'anic verse -- "There shall be no compulsion in religion." {2:256} But the impression given will be false, for there has been no mention of the Muslim doctrine of abrogation, or naskh, whereby such an early verse as that about "no compulsion in religion" has been cancelled out by later, far more intolerant and malevolent verses. In any case, history shows that within Islam there is, and always has been, "compulsion in religion" for Muslims, and for non-Muslims. "Kitman" is close to "taqiyya," but rather than outright dissimulation, it consists in telling only a part of the truth, with "mental reservation" justifying the omission of the rest. One example may suffice. When a Muslim maintains that "jihad" really means "a spiritual struggle," and fails to add that this definition is a recent one in Islam (little more than a century old), he misleads by holding back, and is practicing "kitman." When he adduces, in support of this doubtful proposition, the hadith in which Muhammad, returning home from one of his many battles, is reported to have said (as known from a chain of transmitters, or isnad), that he had returned from "the Lesser Jihad to the Greater Jihad" and does not add what he also knows to be true, that this is a "weak" hadith, regarded by the most-respected muhaddithin as of doubtful authenticity, he is further practicing "kitman." In times when the greater strength of dar al-harb necessitates that the jihad take an indirect approach, the natural attitude of a Muslim to the infidel world must be one of deception and omission. Revealing frankly the ultimate goal of dar al-Islam to conquer and plunder dar al-harb when the latter holds the military trump cards would be strategic idiocy. Fortunately for the jihadists, most infidels do not understand how one is to read the Quran, nor do they trouble themselves to find out what Muhammad actually did and taught, which makes it easy to give the impression through selective quotations and omissions that "Islam is a religion of peace." Any infidel who wants to believe such fiction will happily persist in his mistake having been cited a handful of Meccan verses and told that Muhammad was a man of great piety and charity. Digging only slightly deeper is sufficient to dispel the falsehood. |
