You may say you are not asking atheists to go away, but it is obvious from your question that you think they shouldn't be here!

The question is relevant for those Christians, like myself, who have no desire to attend the athiest forum. I have enjoyed the opportunity that athiests afford to reconsider and solidify my beliefs when the questions posed have merit. So I don't necessarily want anyone to leave, but I will admit, I do not understand the attraction that this forum has for you.

Because there are lies being spread all over the christian forum. Lies about evolution, the big bang, atheists and atheism, abortion, birth control, etc. So in short, we/I are here to educate, or offer an alternative view. We ask christians the tough questions they won't ask themselves. When the lies stop, I'll go. I really don't care what you believe, that is your right, but I will not stand by and let anyone sell BS as truth.

But isn't one's "truth" or "rationality" an individual perception? And for those concepts that are not provable as either rational or truth, who decides? Is it not presumptious of either of us to proclaim truth for the other?

Atheism is different today. It’s a new atheism led by best-selling authors such as Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens (before you comment, I know that Hitch has passed). The new atheists do not restrict themselves to a passive disbelief. Rather, they are actively engaged in admonishing others to follow suit, to declare their non-belief in God, and to take the necessary steps to rid the world of religious belief and practice. As outspoken atheist Richard Dawkins puts it in The God Delusion,“I do everything in my power to warn people against faith itself.” Atheists come to “The CHRISTIAN Forum” to win a few souls to their lie. They’re missionaries here trying to win a few Christians who are not well studied or Biblically grounded to their atheistic faith. For those of us who are well-grounded in the Bible and have studied the Bible in depth, our faith has only grown stronger. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”(Proverbs 27:17) Atheists have been like a sharpening stones for me. Because of them, I have studied the Bible even more in depth in order to intelligently debate with them. The result has been a better understanding of who God is and why He sent Christ to us. The atheist here in this forum have soundly convinced me that the Bible is 100% true and that Christ is the only way to heaven. The more I converse with atheists, the more ridiculous atheism becomes. One can always know when he’s getting to the “ouch” spot at the heart of the atheist. One knows he’s reached that “ouch” spot because the atheist begins to call you derogatory names. He mocks you and he ridicules you. He lifts himself above you. He calls you unintelligent. Why? Because he has no answer. And he also has no hope. Atheism has never healed a fatal disease or calmed a fear. Atheism has still never given answers to our existence, peace to a troubled mind or even dried a tear. But God has! It's God who creates, God who delivers, God who heals and God who is worthy of a thunderous ovation of praise!!

God is drawing the atheists here. This gives Christians the opportunity to witness to the atheists and at the same time gives the atheist one more chance to decide. To exercise their free will and make the right decision. If the atheists choose the path of destruction anyway, there is no blood guilt on anybody's hands. The Lord works in wondrous ways.

A scientist asks how and why regardless of their faith or lack of it. Better to encourage a young lady to study science than to dismiss her ability based on her faith.

Is it not presumptious of either of us to proclaim truth for the other? If someone encounters something they do not understand / cannot explain they have (IMHO) two options. They can either 1) Say they do not understand and leave it at that. or 2) Invoke a deity / the supernatural. AFAIAC (1) is rational while (2) is irrational. This is because (1) encourages further investigation and learning while (2) does not.

He had to resort to invoking the Christian deity in one of his scientific papers because he was unable to do the maths explaining the relationship between all the planets and gravity. Later on another scientist came along and did the maths, no deity required. resident wrote: <quoted text> Better to encourage a young lady to study science than to dismiss her ability based on her faith. I was not aware I dismissed anything. However, I did question how she reconciled her faith with science.
