Was listening to a 3 tour Veteran being interviewed discuss the "things they carried" - and he being a RC, carried a rosary (his Aunt's) and a scapula (which his WW2 Uncle carried).

He felt that carrying them would somehow secure his place in heaven (besides his faith) as he felt that his service and all that he did - which was pretty horrific, served as a medic and than in an EOD unit in Iraq - would have deemed him worthy of Heaven.

Curious IF you Catholic haters would have the nerve to denigrate his faith in those objects and their special place for him in his faith and life.(BTW he did mention that his faith was shaken and remains so due to his experiences, but that those objects remain special and now put away in case he needs them...)

Would any of you Catholic haters tell him he was not a Xtian, and that he was going to hell?

Heaven on "JUDGMENT DAY!"

The Soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass..
'Step forward now, Soldier ,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear..
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
'Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

Punisher,
First, I am NOT a catholic hater. I have a sister in law that is catholic and I lover her. I do NOT agree with the catholic beliefs, but do love her as a person.

No amount of works will get us into heaven. If the man does NOT know Jesus as his SAVIOR and had his sins forgiven by the blood then he will NOT enter heaven. We are to NOT have graven images and things like crosses and rosaries can be considered graven images. Serving our country is an honorable thing, but it will not secure someone a place in heaven unless they repent of their sins and accept Christ.
Heaven is for BELIEVERS who accept Christ.

That's beside the point. There are some in the forum that absolutely despise Catholics; Nijoni, Justachristian and Native with her 'Some of my best friends are Catholic' routine, followed by an anti-Catholic rant.
.

some of my best friends are:

Something prejudiced people say when they're called out on their prejudice. Smacks of tokenism and hypocrisy.

A new convert to Catholicism decided to go to confession to deal with his transgression. In the confessional, he told the priest that he had sinned.

"What was your sin, my son?" asked the priest.

"I stole some lumber, Father," replied the man.

"How much lumber did you steal?" asked the priest.

"Father, I built my German Shepherd dog a nice new doghouse."

The priest replied, "Well, that's not so bad."

The man continued, "Father, I also built myself a 4-car garage."

"Well, now, that's a little more serious."

"Father, there's more. In addition to the doghouse, the 4-car garage, I also built a 5 bedroom, 4 bath house!"

With a pause, the priest finally spoke. "That is a little more serious. I'm afraid you'll have to make a novena."

"Father, I'm not sure what a novena is, but if you've got the blueprints, I've got the lumber!"

Actually, Jesus himself says exactly the OPPOSITE, namely that those do do good and compassionate works will get "eternal life" and those who FAil to do good works will go off into "everlasting punishment."

Not a word about having the right set of beliefs about Jesus.

Matthew 25:31-46

Again, the actual words of Jesus himself (supposedly).

Get a grip.

I was listening to the interview and the thoughts of some the Catholic haters around here popped up. I wondered if they had been listening would they be "talking" to the radio telling this guy off for being a Catholic and having any sort of "faith" in those objects, PLUS (read; PLUS) his regular Faith...

I know a few Catholic haters who would do that - but of course not have the spine to do it to anyone's face.

Legit Q.

Are you really this daft? He does accept Jesus and/or THE Christ.

I asked a simple and direct Q - and like usual you wandered off chasing your dung beetle.

Would you have the nerve to chastise such a Catholic face to face? Simple Q. Instead you preach to me...

You never said he accepted Jesus as HIS Lord and Savior and just because he is catholic does NOT make him a Christian. Alot of people go to church and never accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord. They go to church cause mom or dad took them as a child or for some other reason, but he will NOT be able to earn his way into heaven. Yes, I would correct him if he claims doing all those things will earn him brownie points into heaven.

Jesus himself says you can "earn brownie points for heaven" by your actions.

Matthew 25:31-46.

And what in the world is sucking up to Jesus by "accepting him as Lord and Savior" in order to be saved -- if not "earning brownie points for heaven"?

Sure, but I was just thinking the more pathetic or disgusting a topic is, the more popular it seems to be.
