Brand New Church ( BNC )

There is a Church near where I live called Brand New Church. I watch all the sermons online and the other day come across what they call freechurchridereport.com . This Church has made some skits that are like the freecreditreport.com ads. They call it freechurchridereport.com , at the end of each skit, something is said that concerns me. They say "white buckets are fixing to be passed don't let the person next to you give more than you do". This sounds like a contest to me. Is this a proper thing to be said to a congregation in a church?

We shouldn't even be looking at what the person next to us is giving. What we give is between us and God, not us and the person next to us.

and whats so great is that the white buckets just conjur so much class. spackle buckets being passed among the faithful...thats great.

and its perfectly, biblically legit. the message is not to look and judge, but to not think your neighbor, your brother - is going to bear a bigger burdend then you! make sure you give ALL you can, not what you think is enough.

According to a Barna Group report (sort of like a Christian Gallop poll) of all the Christians in America that regularly attend church, only 8% are regular tithe givers.(8.0000001% if you count me). And look at what God does with that! New churches are being built all over the world, missionaries are supported, relief care is provided (food/medical) and free Bibles are given away (somebody has to pay the cost of printing somewhere up the line). God is literally doing the miracle of the five loaves and two fish, and this miracle is right in front of everybody every single day, but hardly anyone sees it. I have no complaints at all about sermons given on tithing, as long as the sermons emphasize God's glory. Some times though, churches enlist the help of 'Church Growth Consultants' who are more like Madison Avenue businessmen, and 'Brand New Church' might be doing that, I don't know. Its common for Churches today to do that. It could be that they were just taking an unpopular subject (which is really a shame) and trying to use some humor and entertainment to be tactful. When you diagnose a church, you can't just take one element. One needs to additionally examine the theology being taught, and whether the church leadership are doers of the Word, and not just teachers only.

Brand New Church ( BNC ), the pastor Shannon O'Dell ask the congregation what they want to hear about. He takes a online survey on certain things and ask the congregation what they would like to hear about. Shannon O'Dell never preaches on hell and damnation, just wants to tickle the congregations ears with what they want to hear, that is not teaching truth about God's Word.

The obvious question to me is how 'brand new' is Brand New Church? Have they been around for a while? Also,(if it's permissible to ask) is this a church you currently attend?

Brand New Church has been around for about year and a half. No I do not attend, I attended a few times but saw what was really going on. It's pastor picks and chooses his sermons. The pastor never talks about the power of GOD, he just talks about things that people want to here that makes them feel ok with the life they are living no matter what kinds of sin they are commenting.

Stay away from it. That kind of church sounds like the one the fruitcakes on this forum would like to attend.

Its a business, not a church.

This is not that simple, when Shannon O'dell (new pastor) arrived he disbanded the current deacons and formed what he called teams. He put in the 2 deacons and others, one of them was his dad, that started coming to the church from out of the area as the head team. This allowed this all to happen for the most of it. What is now the old church (southside baptist church) is for sale and the are renting it out. they have done this to other churches now. BNC now has what they call 4 campuses. They go in, promise a big change and all kinds of new things. Then take it over and split or disband the church. They went to small churches at first but they did not have the money they were looking for so they left them. I could tell more but it would mean writing a book almost.
