Revelation 13:16-17 “And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.”

It is at this time, that the anti-christ and his false prophet remove tolerance from religion. The anti-christ and his false prophet will demand, and receive, worship from the masses. Gone will be the viewpoint that ‘any religion is good as long as it is sincere’. The anti-christ and the false prophet will demand the worship of all people and will require the death penalty for any who refuse.
Their appetite for power will not end with their take-over of all religion. The anti-christ and his false prophet will take complete control of all the world’s commerce. The power will follow the money. The small, the great, the rich and the poor, the free and those in slavery, will all be given an identifying mark on their right hand or forehead. This mark will become the passport of world trade. Only those having this mark will be allowed to conduct any type of business. The freedom to buy and sell will be denied to any that do not bear the mark of the beast, or his number. It will be intimidation of the most powerful kind. Intimidation number one; the fear of death. Intimidation number two, the fear of being denied the necessities of life. This will be big government at it’s biggest and it’s worst. It will be the ultimate fulfillment of the saying,“Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. This government will be a combination of all the political and religious evils plaguing the world rolled into one fatal relationship. Political freedom, religious freedom and personal freedom will have disappeared from the face of the earth. But people will not care. All the people of the earth will have become so comfortable to the lying signs and obvious deception, they will think they have reached a long hoped for and sought after, utopia.
In order to carry out commercial activities, a person will be required to receive one of the following, the mark, the name or the number of the name of the beast. This will be a compulsion of the most powerful and evil kind. It will be especially difficult for those with children to refuse this mark. While offering freedom, this government will create a terrible form of slavery by it’s great power. But being deluded, the multitudes of people will call the government their benefactor. The anti-christ and the false prophet will hold absolute control of religion, commerce and government. At the same time, immoral permissiveness will become the standard. There will be no moral restraints placed on human behavior, so long as that behavior does not challenge nor interfere with the power and religion of that government.

The truth is, the number of the beast has always been puzzling, and so does his identity, and remains so to this day.
Many people are afraid of the number 666, and will not have a car tag or a phone number or a cash register receipt with this number on it. Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobiac s is the term for people who fear the number 666. I personally see no reason to fear a number.
Counting the number confronts us with another problem. In what language are we to do the counting? John gives us a number and we are told to count that number. Are we to count in Hebrew? Are we to count in Greek? Are we to count in Latin? Are we to count in our own language? Both the Hebrew and the Greek languages assign numeric values to the letters of their alphabets. Such usage of the alphabet for numbers in the Hebrew Torah is rare, if such usage is used at all. Rather than use letters of the alphabet for numbers in the Torah, the numbers are spelled out. The Greek language also assigns numerical values to its letters. And for the most part, numbers are spelled out in the New Testament in the fashion as the Old Testament. This also adds to the problem of decoding this number. The Textus Receptus (the Greek Version on which the King James translation is based) uses three letters of the Greek alphabet. In Nestle and Kurt Aland, the number is spelled out. John tells us the number can be counted by one having reason. How do you count the number of the name. I simply have to say,”I do not know”. I think we should not be worried about being unable to count the number of the beast. I believe that when the man of sin is revealed, all believers will know the meaning of the number of the beast, and so, be able to refuse it. God will not allow His own to be misled into accepting a mark upon which the judgment of God has been pronounced.
John tells us the number is the number of a man. The word translated “man” does not mean generic man, as in mankind, but rather “man’ referring to a specific male individual. This indicates the “man” who will head up the government, which is symbolized by the beast out of the sea.

It's been awhile, I know. I've got a lot of reading to do if I'm to catch up, but from what I've heard, you've been doing an exceptional job here. Anyway, I thought I'd stop in to say hello, first and foremost. Just recently, I had "ran" into Listen To This. I should be making more frequent visits, if our Godhead permits it. Until then, though, I'd like to add my hay-penny worth, if you don't mind.

If it's one thing we know, not one thing found in the bible can't be reasoned, explained, and understood, by referring to another portion of the bible. In this, I've long believed the following verses to be associated with this mysterious "number."

Zechariah 13:7-9
Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

As I believe, "Six hundred threescore and six" is equivalent to "two parts" in simple arithmetic. I know it's quite possible I could be wrong, but I've found no other reasonable explanation in the bible. What say you?

What specifically is Zechariah speaking of?“Two parts shall be cut off and die; but a third shall be left therein.” The first thing I thought of was Revelation 16:19,“The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath“. But this does not seem to work in this specific area, because Revelation 13:16 tells us that free men and the slaves will receive a mark on their right hand or their forehead. That mark has something to do with the name of the beast or the number of his name. I believe that this will be a genuine mark of sorts that will identify those that will accept the word of the anti-christ, and who will worship him or his image. My point is that I do not see where the “two parts” comes in, in reference to the mark. Is it the “two parts” that receive the mark? Those that receive the mark of the beast, or his name, most certainly will be cut off from our Father.

What I'm getting at is this: I've heard some preachers and speakers on the programs I listen to say that there are going to be countries that the mark won't affect. I don't know this for sure--or I don't know if I believe it. It's something to think about. I do believe Jordan is not supposed to be affected by it. Do each of you (or anyone else reading) have any thoughts on this?

Greetings, salutations, and shalowm, again, dear Brother.

First, I must admit, I'm glad you've been following my posts, especially those in "John 8:58," "John 10:30," and "1John 5:7," but more-so because you grasp the points I've been making. I'll tell you like I've told countless others. I don't share these things expecting an immediate change of belief. Rather, all I ask is that we consider an alternative perspective. Now, on to the subject-matter.

Revelation 13:18
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Okay. First thing's first. In this verse, we're made aware of how simple it could be to "count the number of the beast." This is what it's alluding to when it says that it is "the number of a man." That "man" is all of us. In other words, this "number" is not beyond man's comprehension, reasoning, or understanding. We need not rely on any miracle, or divine assistance, to "count" this "number." Man, generally-speaking, uses this same formula to count, constantly. And the meaning of this number can be familiar to us. Another verse that uses such similar terminology is Revelation 21:17. This says, "And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel." In other words, the angel measured the wall, but with measurements that are familiar to man. Nevertheless, wisdom is still necessary if we're to come to an accurate calculation. Wisdom is necessary if we're to know exactly what it is we're counting.

NOTE: For the record, the "mark," as I believe, is the equivalent (yet opposite) of the seal of our Godhead. The "seal" signifies our faith and obedience, rooted in love (2Tim 2:19), while the mark represent the opposite (disbelief and disobedience, rooted in feigned love, perhaps?)[1John 2]. The mention of the "hand" and "forehead," as I believe, represents our deeds and thoughts, as you most likely know already. Anyway...

Now, here's where I get confusing. I believe this "number of the beast" is a mission and desired goal. As we read Revelation 13, we have to keep in mind certain things.

As I was saying, there's certain things we should remember as we read Revelation 13.

1. John was a Hebrew Israelite.
2. The second beast's mission was to lead all to worship the first beast, whose mission was to wage war against the saints and overcome them.
3. The "saints" are, as I believe, the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
4. A majority of the bible focuses on our Godhead's final fulfillment of all the promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Fist, I mentioned that John was a Hebrew Israelite, because John would have been accustomed to using certain, specific language. In Revelation 13, he mentions "saints." And if we read Psalm 50:5, this says, "Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice." Now, Romans 9 reminds us of Paul's "brethren," his "kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites;

to whom pertaineth the adoption,

and the glory,

and the covenants,

and the giving of the law,

and the service of God,

and the promises;

Whose are the fathers,

and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen." These are all significant to what I'm about to share.

As I stated, I believe this "number of the beast" is a mission and desired goal. Now, lets read Zechariah 13:8 once again.

"And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein."

Now, check this out. Here's the "simple" part I mentioned, this "number of a man." What's the possibility that "Six hundred threescore and six" and this "two parts" are identical? In other words and according to man's calculations, what's the chance that both represent 66.6% and/or 2/3 (two-thirds)? What if the first beast's objective was to overcome 66.6%, or two-thirds, of the saints?

I feel rather foolish even sharing this, but I think it's a possibility. Please and if you will, tell me what you think.

For the record, the "666" at Revelation 13 is misunderstood to have a numerical value, but it doesn't. Now, the number "6" does have a spiritual value and this is where the understanding begins.

The same application to understanding the "666" is found with the "7x70" and "12,000x12" equations. In this sense, the "6" denotes the fall of man. This number, then, is equivalent to "6x3" rather than "six-hundred, threescore and six." (As cautiously as I can, I must interject that outside the writings of the original scrolls, in their original tongues, we are subject to translation errors.) This same usage is used at Revelation 8:13 which reads, "And I beheld, and hear an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe..."

In essense, if the spiritual value of "6" was to denote "wickedness," then "6x3," or "666" would indicate, "wicked, more wicked, most wicked." The usage of this number at Revelation 13:18 is to pronounce the estate and condition of mankind at the return of Christ.

OK, I am with you so far…I do agree that the ‘man’ in Revelation 13:18 is speaking of humanity, mankind.
OK, and I agree that the measurement used is one that is (will be) simple for us to understand, and is ((will be) familiar to us.
I am in 100% agreement that the mark of the beast is the corresponding mark to the seal that the people of God people will receive. Revelation 7:2-3 tells us,“And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads”.
This is where we may differ, I do believe there will be a literal mark, both of God’s children and those who choose to worship the beast. I do agree that the forehead and right hand symbolize deeds and thoughts, adding that the right hand also symbolizes strength and authority, Isaiah 62:8,“The Lord has sworn by His right hand and by His strong arm,…..”.
I would say that the mission and desire of the beast is to destroy God and His people.
Revelation 13:9-10 tells us,“If anyone has an ear, let him hear. If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints“. I believe this is directed towards the true believers, and it is apparent that the beast will kill a number of God’s people, and I have no problem believing it could be two thirds of God’s saints remaining upon the earth at that time. I will have to continue to think about this…….
Just a bit of information, I had read one time that 666 was not six hundred, sixty-six, rather it was 6 to the 6th power to the 6th power…….

It is my belief that all countries will be affected. Revelation 13:16 is very clear, "And he causes ALL (my emphasis), the small and the great, and the rich and the poor and the free and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead". The point I am making is John tells us "all".

Firstly, and to me personally, I can't see any reason to believe that a literal, visible "mark," nor a literal, visible "seal," should be expected, as if we'll be branded, literally. I do know that many people have come to think this, based on the belief that the mark (Heb. "oth"; Definition: "sign") on Cain was a literal, visible mark. This "mark of Cain," though, is revealed to us in the written account. As we examine what this "mark" truly was, we see that this mark was a declaration and not some alleged stamp. "Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold," was the "sign" between Cain and the most High. Genesis 4:15 Now, we find this same term and definition found in another verse, and one that I believe reveals to us the actual "seal" and "mark" mentioned in the book we call "Revelation."

Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign (Heb. "oth") between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

Now, if we can recall, 2Timothy 2:19 states, "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity." So, as I believe, a perfect example of this "mark" on the hands and foreheads of unbelievers can be found at Amos 8:5-6. Israel said, "When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit? That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?" But, the most High promised, "If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it (Isa 58:13-14)." Then, it's prophesied, "And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD (Isa 66:23)."

In conclusion, I believe the "mark" is Sunday-observance, while the "seal," all in all, is the recognition of the true Sabbath. None, then, would be literal, visible brands, as if they were tattoos, but the hand and forehead will reveal which has the mark and which, the seal.

And before I forget, I've never heard such a calculation regarding the infamous "number of the beast." I'll definitely have to look into that.

It's good to "see" you, my dear Sister, Listen T-- er, I mean, Lissen Ta This. Halycon answered your question already, and I'm in total agreement with him. Not one citizen on this planet Earth will be exempt from the offer of salvation, nor the temptation to worship self. I'm sure you already knew that, though, and there's nothing wrong with seeking alternative meanings and understandings, or even just desiring to know what others believe.

Good to see you, Holy Land. So you know, all that alleged "drama" that Native keeps mentioning from time to time, that happened between my wife and I? This was the thread she was referring to. The posts no longer exist, but if memory serves me correctly, this "drama" began somewhere around pages 4 and 5. I say this so that you can see the dates on those pages. It's then that she's claimed was "current."

I wasn't on topix when that happened, at least not this forum anymore. I just heard about it, that she tried to cause you problems. We may not agree on all our beliefs, but as far as you as a person, there is not a question in my mind. That's why I love you as my friend and brother. Speaking of calls, I never did get that one since we hooked up again here this year.

Lissen Ta This is a wonderful person to know. If memory serves me correctly, we met shortly after I started visiting Topix (which was, actually, in July of 2008). I haven't really spoken with her since, maybe, January of 2010. It's been a while. In this thread, it was her, Halycon, Kensey, and myself, mainly.
