Resident simply said she considers Mary a Christian role model, and a role model for mothers and women. There's no wrong in that.
Mary's not to blame for whatever Mary-issues there are with Catholicism. Try to separate Mary from the context of the RCC when you think of her.
She is, after all, the mother of Jesus Christ! She was chosen by God from among ALL women on earth to bear His Only Begotten Son, our Lord and Savior. It’s altogether fitting that Mary should be regarded with reverence. So quit throwing her under the RCC bus, for crying out loud!
And to spare you from mistaking my motive for speaking on Mary's behalf, I am not, nor have I ever been, a Catholic.
