Newsday.com deleted thread since it was a bit too realistic and included actual exchanges in idealogy. In other words, Newsday.com just censored its site, essentially sanitizing what it considers a bit too realistic. Welcome to the new Orwellian millenium. Cheers!

(1) It is against Canon Law to ordain women priests.

(2) These were not Catholic Church sanctioned ordinations.

Therefore, the Catholic Church never ordained three women priests.

The media loves printing these kind of stories. It leads to Catholic bashing which the media loves.

You'd think that with all the Catholic Church has been through, that they would welcome anyone who really wants to serve as a Preist or Deacon.

This is why the Catholic Church is right to not ordain women.

The Church is not a democracy as the American media wants it to be. They make thier own rules, and if women can't be ordained priests, that's the way it is.

Absolutelly true, they just should not be surprised when people no longer have the faith in the Church because of the Church's refusal to see men and women as equals.

The equality issue is a purely American issue. The Church in the United States is not in charge of the Catholic Church.
Will people leave the Church in the US due to this issue? Some, maybe. But, the Church has existed for centuries and will continue to do so regardless of the women's movement in the United States.
Personally, I don't want a woman as my priest, a deacon perhaps. I wouldn't mind a married priest. In fact, there are a few former Anglican priests who are married and converted, and are still married as Catholic priests. To me that's not too big a deal.

Really doesn't make a difference to me, but I'm curious. Why would you not want a woman as a Priest ? As an Episcopalian, the person on the altar who gave me the most inspiration was a woman. She was just as enlightened and in touch as any of the male Reverends. I just don't see why it is such a big deal. The funny part is that I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but I never really felt like I knew God until I converted. Maybe it's because I want to believe that God is more a reasonable being than the person I was taught to fear.I guess it's all in how you view your faith. Hey, whatever works for you is what you gotta go with. The ban on female priests works for the Catholic Church and they do have the right to keep it that way. I guess we all just have to follow our own path. I wish everyone happiness and peace of mind. Enjoy the weekend

You went from Catholic to Catholic Lite.
The reason I don't want a female as a priest is nmainly based upon the traditions of the Church for the past 2000 years. I know that Mary Magdalene was probably as good as a disciple as the other 12, except for Judas, but I am traditional in that one sense. The marriage thing should be changed though.
Funny thing about what you said about being taught to fear God. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and in my church we were bever taught things like that, or that the Jews were Christ killers, etc. For whatever reason, my parish seemed very liberal and I never had any of the negative experiences so many fallen to the side Catholics talk about. Go figure.

And I am sure you can talk about this with the three other parishoners that show up to Sunday mass at your church tomorrow. Your church is dying and it is because of your hardline, no change attitude. Good luck!

Hey, Bush should have been a priest. He has all the basics down, cover-ups, lies, and hidding behind antiquated laws and ideas. Seems like a fit to me. Again, good luck?

Actually, I consider myself a recovering Catholic. I renounced my Catholic faith after seeing the church covering up or trying to hide the sexual molestation charges brought against several Priests. The church has hidden to long behind Cannon law. I was sickened when Pope Benedict stated that any Priest that was openly gay was no Priest in the eyes of the church. One of the most famous photo's of September 11th was of the New York Fire Department Chaplin being carried away dead after being killed by falling debris. He was there delivering last rights to those who were dead or dying from the attack. But according to your new pope he died in vain because he was no priest because he was openly gay. The Catholic church is antiquated and arcaic at best. The archdioses across the country are screaming for new priets and nuns because very few are going into the seminary. And why? well, deep down in your heart you know the answer to that question. Best of luck and god bless.

I'm going to guess you really weren't a Catholic and you are just bringing up typical anti-Catholic talking points for sake of argument. I could be wrong but let's just say it's a hunch. Your mispellings of "Canon" and "Archdiocese" were clues.

If you have attended a Catholic mass lately, you would know the faith is not dying.

I am sorry for the mispellings. However, with that being said. Do you consider, child molestation and blatant ex-communication as typical? Do you consider cover - ups at the highest level of the church as typical? You really need to wake up and back off of the complacency my friend. Your church has many things to answer for and they are doing nothing but hiding and doing the good old vatican two step (sort of stole that line from a movie, could not resist) The best that Pope Benedict could come up with on his recent vist was.."He was deeply disturbed" Wow! Thanks for the effort Pope. If you and your parishoners consider these charges as typical and just anti-catholic talk, you people are in much worse shape then I ever imagined. I truly hope you can get your head out of the "typical" long enough to see what is really going on. Best of luck.
OH No not again

You are not willing to change the rules for women, but you will for men? You insinuated in a prior post that the rules of the church shouldn't change for women, but then here you want to change them for men. Make up your mind, do you want to change the rules or the church or not? And why would it bother you so much if a women was a priest?
