Did you know that Jesus of Nazereth was a Buddhist monk who taught Buddhist teachings in a way that would be best understood in the geographical and cultural region he lived in, and that most of his teachings were for those who aspired to become monks like him.

One might say that the teachings of Jesus were an eclectic mix of Buddhism and Judaism that later became known as Christianity.

Christianity is the Western-worlds version of Buddhism.

Scholars have known of this connection for a long time, and if you search Google books for Buddhist Christian parallels you will find alot of books on the subject, many hesitate to attribute the influence directly to Buddhism and none that I have read have tried to make a case that Buddhism borrowed from Christianity (takes to much revisionism). If the reader gets a chance check out my book, Father and Son, East is West, The Buddhist sources to Christianity and their influence on medieval myths.

Definately part of the Sangha. You have to be really dense not figure it out!

Jesus literally states his teachings are not his own:
John 7:16 Jesus responded to them, "What I teach doesn't come from me but from the one who sent me.

this theory is much more palatable...but can it be a pure case of coincidence???

miracle was given much importance in the biblical texts ..compared to the Pali texts

in the Pali texts, the importance was placed on 'attainment' of the 'eye of Dhamma'.

no it's not a coincidence, anyone who's actually studied both religions state that the number of matching cases are too high to be called coincidence.

You can believe that, but my experience tells me he was a Buddhist monk.

Christians will not know Jesus without taking refuge. Jesus is a root guru (the root of David)-- Buddha is the root of all (Hetu)! If you know Tibetan Buddhism, the root guru is used in meditation, but the primary root guru is BUDDHA FIRST and REFUGE IN BUDDHA!

er, yes, and certain experiences that are only found in the New Testament -- while I practiced Buddhist meditation (chanting Buddhist mantras)

Without Buddhism, Christians aren't getting the real deal.:)

is there 'Jesus mantra' practise? i doubt it

and mind you,Buddhism is free from mantras... NO MANTRAS TO SPEAK OF..unless you're talking about hybrid Buddhism..

you need to draw a line between Buddhism as it is..and Buddhism remixed!

You don't know Buddhism do you? You should practice more. There is the Pratitya samutapada mantra, "yeh dhamma hetu pabhava". There is the "Om Namo Ratantaya" mantra, there are the recollection mantras!

I am a Mahayanist, we have tons of mantras on top of those. These are from real Buddhists.

And don't forget the Triple Gem Mantra :

Buddham Saranam Gacchami
Dhammam Saranam Gacchami
Sangham Saranam Gacchami

another mantra in the Nikayas:

Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arahato Sammasambuddhasa!

This mantra forms the basis for all Buddha mantras in the Mahayana

where would mantras lead you?

in Buddhism,it's purely Catu Ariya Sacca and Ariya Atthangika Magga.

To begin with, the Buddha never depended on any mantras for his deliverence.Buddhists are those who follow the fottsteps of the Buddha.Period.

No those are mantras, not mere declarations of faith.

The Triple Gem verse is in the Gayatri Chanda meter, 24 syllables and 3 padas.

we all can agree jc was no buddhist --> even if he ever studied buddhism or hinduism..he never taught PURE BUDDHISM NOR HINDUISM..

that itself disqualifies him as a Hindu/Buddhist.

while Buddhists were into Nibbana,jc took his disciples to a different turning ---> going under a 'god'.

I think there's quite a bit of evidence to suggest that Buddhism made it to the Middle East by the time of Christ (i.e. Grecian influence on Buddhist iconography, etc.). With that in mind, it becomes difficult to doubt that Jesus would have been exposed to at least some of the dharma. But to call him a full member of the Sangha!? I think that is a bit of a stretch. If that were the case, one would expect to see direct or at least paraphrased quotes from the Pali Canon, key concepts from Buddhism (i.e. karma, rebirth, the three marks of existence, etc.), and at least some mention of the origin of suffering, its causes, and its cessation. What Jesus taught is much more in line with his Jewish heritage than the Buddhadharma.....

Have you ever heard of prayer?? This is the Christian mantras....and christianity's attempt at meditation. Some succeed, but most miss the mark.

Daily Horoscope for November 26

Gemini

Your eleventh house of friends and associates is activated by the Moon in Aries and it's time to go out and play with your friends. Even the Twins, who have been somewhat reclusive lately, will benefit from socializing tonight. A sense of relief will take hold when you realize that no one really has a better life than you. Sure, it might seem like someone else has a more glamorous existence, but if you could be a fly on the wall in their bedroom, you'd find they have nightmares, too!
