Atheism requires as much faith as religion?

oh, I insult them too, but I'd rather just call them idiots in conversation with other smart people, than call them names to their faces, so to speak. unless they are provocative. which, granted, the fundies often are. I get most angry when it is an atheist or skeptic type who is disgusting - I do not like to see rational thought discredited by that type of person. It is necessary to object immediately, and even defend a believer on some grounds, in order to separate onesself from such a nasty type that the idiots could point to. The fundie idiots do not get it that each and every skeptic, agnostic, and atheist, is a very separate person, and not part of a group the way many religious persons are. Each of us is responsible for ourself only. I let others know when I agree with some other rational person, on some point or other, but I would not want anyone to assume that I do.

I also like nice persons who self-identify as Christians or religious. I do not disavow or disown them, but would welcome them into a coalition on behalf of any good ethical cause, and on behalf of every rational thought that they accept. I do not think there are enough skeptics, agnostics, and atheists - and certainly not enough who are strong advocates for social justice - to outnumber the rightwing fundies of religion and politics. I remember when there were wonderful alliances with mainstream and moderate and liberal religious groups on behalf of social justice. I admire the liberation theory folks (social justice in this life, and not pie in the sky in heaven by and by), and especially since this pope tried to silence the catholic varieties.
