Full story: Connecticut Post

Science can only explain so much every time they think they are closer to the answers they realize that they are farther away... It can only be deemed as arrogance to look up at the night sky and think that we are it... here all alone...the soul is a real thing maybe not tangible but none the less adhered to the principles of science simply stated that matter can not be created nor destroyed it only changes form

Neither the "existence" of a God that responds to, cares about, or punishes/rewards man - nor the "absence" of such a God, can ever be "proven".

But the "probability" that a "FIRST CAUSE" (for the complicated intricacies and perfections of the universe) exists is VERY high.

It is only the hubris (or wiliness) of Man that allows him to INVENT tales about a "loving God", "judgment day". "salvation" and all the rest of it. Such tales form the foundation for a very lucrative and powerful business.

Very well said John C.

All of the above appear to be atheists. Have fun in the land of no boundaries, no rules, no morality, no guilt, no shame, so anything goes as long as it satisfies your selfish desires! Have fun!

I agree, people who talk to an invisible man floating in the sky are obviously insane, but then again maybe it's so popular because ALMOST everyone is doing it. Whatever the reason, God is totally made up.

Yeah we'll enjoy OUR world where we do as we please and you enjoy yours where everything you do is based on a crusty old book.

FYI
It's possible to be a good person without a lame God, we're Atheist not Satanist.

Obviously you've never heard of humanists. Atheists and agnostics have morals, often stricter morals than those who think they can ask an invisible man for forgiveness every time they "sin."

I am an atheist, and one of the most morally upright, giving members of my community you would ever meet. Just because I don't have faith in a make believe god doesn't mean I don't have faith. I have faith in love, family, kindness, and community. I have faith in myself, enough to know right from wrong.

If I was so "immoral" as all atheists allegedly are, why am I on the PTA? Why do I volunteer for charities? Why are my husband and I in a wonderful, stable, happy marriage of 10 years? Why am I a responsible homeowner? Why do I vote? Why do I visit my grandmother? Why do I bring flowers to sick friends? Why do I help my neighbors?

Because I'm a good person. I don't need to have some overlord in the sky telling me what is right and wrong. My parents taught me that. It's not that difficult of a concept to grasp.

Well said. I'm sick of people thinking God is the only thing keeping humans sane, and if you don't beleive in God then you're some kind crazy person!

'Obviously' already said it, but you don't have to be religious to believe in and live 'The Golden Rule'.
Note that guilt and shame are only required if you've done things to earn them.

There are entire cultures that live without worshiping a god. Many Eastern cultures, Buddhists, for example, adhere to a philosophy, and don't worship a god.

So why are millions of Buddhists not eating their young, setting fires, and beating up old ladies? Because they are good people.

You can live a philosophy of good and virtue without a deity. To think that atheists are running about killing babies and having sexual parties is absurd.

I totally agree that we do not need to believe in a god or in an old book of tales to be a good person. It is obvious that just because people believe in a god and centuries old books that they can be terrible, evil people.

Just came out on rental. I also recommend this flick - glad to see others have enjoyed it too.(Thanks for bringing it up!)

Although he is often smug and not my style, Maher is still very funny and the movie has quite a few gems of interest.

My favorite parts were the interviews with the Vatican astronomer, and the plain-clothes priest outside the Vatican. They were both cool guys and funny as heck. Nothing like I would have expected! If more priests and Vatican officals were like those old guys, I wouldn't think religion is such a bad thing - LOL.
