But the wide varieties of sexual abuse in this one case of Smith's being reported in the article are just more extreme, focused versions of other forms of abuse of power you get in a misogynistic, anti sex, authoritarian institution. Need I name the one I'm thinking of?

Don't leave your child's _mind_ alone with a priest, either.

"...Church officials and an in-house review board didn't think [Father] Smith was seeking sexual gratification when he allegedly had boys undress or get naked with him in a hot tub."

Oh, right - cleansing the soul, right?

All the while the priest was telling the boys that it hurt him more than it hurt them.

Yeah, right.

With all that is going on, it's no longer safe to leave your children with any adult in authority. Priests, teachers, scoutmasters...the list is endless. Where are the street corner perverts?

In the seventies there were various plays and dance performed near-nude, or fully nude. We have seen pictures using cow dung as a medium, as well as crosses in urine. All of this brought to you by the 1960s and 1970s.

So I suppose this priest was being artistic in his directing this play.

The "street perverts" who lurk in the bushes and public parks are a rarity. The abuser is 9 times out of 10 a trusted adult or older person, who grooms the victim first. One really needs to be aware of the situation that ones child is going to be in.

Let's be clear: Most likely to be an extended or immediate family member.

Those are the stats, despite any under reporting.

Difficult thing, go to a church to accept the teachings of a Priest, because one feels the Priest is preaching the word of God....but then also feeling as though you can't trust the Priest to not rape your child.

Seems like it's either all or nothing. If I didn't trust the Priest with my kid, I would not be in the congregation on Sunday's either.

But the hierarchy is misogynist, sexually sick, homophobic and authoritarian whether the priests are interfering with kids or not. It's a mind f if not an actual f. What's the diff?

I chose the "nothing" as a child, so there's no danger I will ever be caught in a church to begin with. But, it's a double shame when "church" leaders are leaders in molesting as well. Such power to use as cover for abuse.

i tell you if ever have kids i would not take them anywhere near a catholic church.
if we are not going to disband this cult of pedophiles at least start taxing them so they can help pay for all the pedophile priests we have to incarcerate...

Let's just go after every 60 year old male or to be on the safe side every male period.

I remember as a high schooler going to see Billy James Hargis and the All American Kids. It wasborn again Christian and wrapped up in red, whire and blue. Lots of singing and dancing. Then it came out that Billy James was doing more than teaching the "Kids" to dance and sing. Pedophilia knows no religious boundaries.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Sagittarius

You're wearing rose-tinted glasses today, especially when you look at some of the special people in your life. Right now you only want to see their good points and you'll deliberately turn a blind eye to any faults that might be on show. If you can escape from the real world for a day with you-know-who you'll have a marvelously romantic and emotional time together. But do your best to come back to earth tomorrow.
