Episcopal Presiding Bishop Spins Church and Its Future

Full story: www.virtueonline.org

They have been busy in the last decade or so. They say they have been listening to the "Voice of God" ... first back in the '70s they were among the first of the Protestant denominations to ordain women to the priesthood. Within the last decade they approved the ordination of active homosexuals - lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons -- and they have made an active and partnered gay man a bishop in one of their dioceses - Gene Robinson. So they have made the news. Why and where is The Episcopal Church headed especially with its relationship with worldwide Anglicanism? ...

Some people say homosexuality is a sin. It’s not. God is perfectly cool with it, God feels the exact same way about homosexuality that God feels about heterosexuality. Now you might say,‘Whoa, slow down. You move too fast. How could you have the audacity, the temerity, to speak on behalf of God?’ Exactly, that’s an excellent point and I pray that you remember it.

WILKEN: The passage that I guess I go to repeatedly in taking that position is to Jesus, Himself, where He says: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6] Jesus is claiming to be the ONLY revelation of God; the ONLY revelation of the sacred in His Incarnation; and most certainly, the ONLY way to the True God. What are your thoughts there?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: He also says in another place [John 10:16] that He has flocks, that He is called to care for flocks - sheep that aren't already in a particular fold, and that He has words of truth for them as well.

WILKEN: So what do you think He is referring to there, specifically?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: I think He is referring to people beyond our comfort zone.

WILKEN: Beyond Christianity?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: Could be...

WILKEN: Well, do you think it is beyond Christianity?

JEFFERTS SCHORI: I think the work of Jesus has changed reality for all human beings whether they acknowledge themselves Christians or not.

VOL: Scripture says, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.(1 Cor. 12:3). So if she cannot say unequivocally that "Jesus is Lord", can she be called a Christian?...

How could that be construed as not saying "unequivocally that Jesus is Lord"? Sounds like VOL is putting their own biased interpretation on her words.(So what else is new??)

For the record Joey, I can say "unequivocally" that Jesus is Lord. I can also "unequivocally" say that Jesus/God loves every creature on this earth.

Joey, that is not what they were talking about. Jesus being Lord was not in the discussion. The fact that non-Christians are also loved by God (what a surprise) is the point she was aiming for here. Your comprehension skills are just as skewed by your need to better than everyone else.

Selecia Jones is 100 percent right in saying that no one can speak for God. However God has spoken for himself in this Holy Word, the Bible. That is what Christianity is all about -- what God says in the Bible.

Take away the Bible or destroy its integrity, as the big, dying liberal denominations have done, and you end up with no Christianity or, at best, a shadow form of it.

Without the Bible, the only knowledge of God available is what we can know about him in nature and through our conscience. Obviously, the conscience of many allows homosexuality. The final question is whether nature allows it. Without the Bible, we are left with evolution. Does evolution, the survival of the fittest, promote homosexuality? Is it part of the theory of ever advancing species that the highest form of species would start using its digestive system (the mouth and the rectum) as part of its reproductive or sexual system? Is it part of the theory of ever advancing species that the highest form of species, more than any other, if indeed other species are homosexual, would adopt of sexuality which cannot reproduce by itself and would of necessity die out by itself? I think not. Homosexuality makes less sense from a secular view than a biblical view.
Incidentally, anyone who quotes the Bible accurately can speak on behalf of God! Paul said "We are God's ambassadors, as they God is making his appeal through us." An ambassador is someone who speaking on behalf of another. At least Schori admits she is not speaking on behalf of God in TEC. That is some comfort. On the other hand, the reason TEC is going down the dumper numerically is that no one seems to be speaking on behalf of God. His is the only voice not hear in TEC -- and it shows.

Problem here is...no one bothers to follow the Guidelines of the Great Commandents to discern what God's words really are. Jesus gave you these guides and you say, thank you, but I'll decide myself. can you say HYPOCRITE??? Until you and people like Joey really follow Jesus, you have no credibility intalkin about things Christain. get back to me when you can really listen to Him.

I am not disputing that. So what is your point?? Oh, I know. You do not know what "The Way , the Truth, and the Life" means. And until you open your heart to Jesus you will never know.

Sorry I never heard of "The Guidelines of the Great Commandments." Being capitalized, I assume it is some book or the like. I prefer to find the meaning of the words of Jesus by translating the Hebrew and Greek words, comparing scripture with scripture, keeping a Christo-centric approach, while keeping an eye on law and gospel. I also believe that scripture is right, even if I don't like what it says and even if I do not fully understand it. These may not be "Guidelines" of "the Great Commandments," but they have stood the test of time as the "guidelines" for translating and understanding the Bible.

If by "Guidelines of the Great Commandments" you mean to love God above all and your neighbor as yourself, or Jesus' summary of the law of God, it does not make sense to understand the Bible only from the viewpoint of the law as it is used in sanctification and omit the law as it convicts with sin and the Gospel which pronounces the forgiveness of sin to the penitent. Such a narrow-minded approach to Bible translation and interpretation is certain to come up with a narrow minded understanding of the Bible, which, of course, is one definition of liberalism.

Actually, an entirely different way of "knowing", and an irrefutable litmus test for it, were laid down along with the foundations of existence.

I wonder if you know what it is.
