Well, I don't know what they say in front of you, but "wajh" or "tar'af" meaning saving face and politeness are equally important to all Arabs as it's not a Muslim trait, but rather an Arab cultural value to be polite and to show a friendly face. Seeing that you are Jewish, no doubt they don't want to offend you by saying bad stuff about Israel, but believe me, I am not Jewish and around me they say many things about Israel, not one of them friendly. Why? Because they see it as a racist state that is oppressing the whole ARAB culture and race...don't you know the Arab concentric world view? It's this way: inner circle = all their family/tribe, middle circle = all of their religion, outer circle = ALL Arabs. This is the way they see it. I have several professors in my schools who teach Arabic studies, they are Syriac Christians and this is the world view. So, while they have nothing against Jews, the policies of Israel are held by all Arabs to be racially motivated hated disguised by religion. Bottom line, they say Israel hates them because they are Arab primarily and then worries about their religion. I am not saying this is how it is, I am saying this is how they feel.
