Fundamentally Freund: There are good Poles, too

I have not read such an anti-Polish piece of hate literature in a long time. The author goes out of his way to tarnish Poland's good name in a way that is quite obscene.

I am no longer bothered in even pointing out the errors of this kind of thinking, and the wild accusations that are levelled.

But I'll go some of the way because this author is real special, a master of his gruesome trade in propaganda and hate mongering.

Why does he identify the Nazi police as Polish? Perhaps the police was Jewish, a common occurence? Were there any occupying Germans present, they was never mentioned? How many people that you know turn up with their families at mass executions?

And at the end of the piece the author suggest that there is still a chance of reconciliation between Poles and Jews. Perhaps he thinks like this because there may be one or two good Jews still lingering about somewhere?

The Jerusalem Post is one of the most racist and xenophobic newspapers in the world. At least they had the decency to print my response on the talkback, which doesn't always happen with them.

Look at the things he says like "I noticed how various people, young and old, in cities and towns, would point at the yarmulke on my head, and laugh ....". How paranoid can you get, eh.

I agree with you. Jerusalem Post propagandist Michael Freund is an Anti-Polish Bigot it appears.

As someone else mentioned in the Jerusalem Post "talkback" reply section, could you imagine if in Poland, Russia, an Arab country, the US etc. someone wrote an article titled "Fundamentally there are Good Jews too". Jewish Anti-Defamtion groups would be screaming about it being an Anti-Jewish article, and understandably so.

Such a double standard.

I wrote the Jerusalem Post a reply letter but they haven't posted it. If they don't post it maybe I'll write a more toned down letter next time.:)

I believe Silky this is the second article you have written about where there should be a Polish organization established to counter Anti-Polish Bigotry. I AGREE.

You do have quite a few Polish American, Polish Canadian organizations like the Polish American Congress, the Polish Canadian Congress that do have chapters that speak out and send out press releases, letters to the editors, etc as far as speaking out against Anti-Polish bias in different forms.

They have been more or less successful in keeping Anti-Polish prejudice at bay but they can ALWAYS be improved (also it seems like its always the same Poles all the time who speak out while far too many other Poles would rather sit back and tell other Poles "what to do" while not getting off the couch themselves).

The problem is, this is not the only thing these organizations do. They also have their feel good type functions like Polka dancing, Easter Egg searches, Kielbasa Dinners, Ethnic Parade functions, etc. which are all fine and good but in my opinion, mean very little, if there aren't more Poles speaking out against Anti-Polish defamation.

Jewish, Black and lately Arab and Hispanic groups are always speaking out against any kind of defamation against them.

So basically I think more Poles should be active in fighting Anti-Polish bias, whether its through letters to editors of newspapers, calling talk radio shows, or even here on the internet speaking out.

You should consider speaking to Poles and Polish groups near you in being more aggressive in speaking out against any form of Anti-Polish prejudice.

We live in a world where only the sqeaky wheel gets the grease.

I suppose most Polish people don't have that nasty streak in them to keep on bitchin and moanin about an issue like the Jews do. It's like Silky suggested above, most Poles would rather punch the idiot in the face and have done with it. While Jews will whine about something for years and years until someone gives in for some peace and quiet.

For most Poles to sink to the level of the Jews is an insult and not in keeping with an honourable state of mind. It's just not in Polish nature.

Control of the media is the only way to propogate ideas and attitudes. That is the only source of mass transmission of ideas.

Internet blogs are the next best thing. At least that way a world wide network of like minded individuals can be cultivated. Something along the lines of what is happening now.

I think some of the reason why maybe more Poles appear to not have a "mean streak" in fighting back is because they are not aware about the defamation against them. Half of these Poles get more aggressive when they are told about certain anti-Polish bigots LOL

Usually when an Anti-Polish bigot in the media is referenced in a Polish American newspaper with his personal or business information, 90% of the time he stops his Anti-Polish bigotry when angry Poles contact his place of business, bosses etc.

The next best thing would be to trash the people on the internet who are trashing you. The one good thing about the internet is that it is a TWO WAY street.

Historically when people would bash people in old media outlets like TV or newspapers (other then an occasional letter to the newspaper) its hard as hell to fight back.
At least with the internet, even if someone bashes the Poles you can bash them back just the same LOL

As someone once told me, despite the bad things on the internet, smutt, rated XXX material, hate, etc. the internet should be seen as a GIFT to groups of people that have been slandered by the OLD media where these groups couldn't defend themselves properly.

Many groups are in this category, Conservatives, Catholics and YES Poles.

There is nothing to stop Poles from forming MANY media sources on the net even if they are not Polish per se. There is nothing to stop Poles from joining as many liberal and conservative websites that allow you to sign up and blog away on issues of defamation when the topic of defamation comes up -even if its about another group.

Just some ideas :)

Yeah, there's a lot of satisfaction that one gets from knocking someone's teeth out that just doesn't happen with an email!

However, the email can inflict the longer lasting pain. The internet is a two way street. I maybe need to see what I can do to expoit it more. It's a shame I'm not vindictive enough to go for the jugular for any mength of time. But with some of the b@stards on the Jerusalem Post and especially the Michael Feund guy, I might be able to make an exception!

You are basically correct.

Polish groups (at least for now) don't work like that although they would energize occasionally together (in a non-hateful way) like in pushing to get Poland into NATO by lobbying the American congress or other specific things.

I have seen Poles be apathetic on things that you would think would energize them and vice versa.

I saw in the Post Eagle newspaper (they should be more vocal on the internet) pictures of hundreds of Polish Americans demonstrating outside of Polish Churches that were being closed down. You never know when something will spark people or not.

But I definitely agree with your notion that us little guys can do our small part on the internet and have a good laugh at it in the meantime. The more of us little people who do our little part here on the internet......the more we ain't so little anymore LOL
