Boy oh boy am I glad for the on the beat reporting from mcall.com otherwise I would've never known that the population of chops in the valley is increasing. I don't even think you need to be half a retard to notice this trend. Wow, I can't wait to see the bigoted, racist, and prejudicial comments that are going to be written after this article! Of course, there will be the usual standard comments about how Hispanics ruined the South Side; about how Hispanic families lack the discipline and hard work of whites; and about how Puerto Ricans can never quite seem to keep their daily garbage on THEIR side of the fence. But let's just wait a minute you Irish-happy-go-lucky racists...What did the Irish neighborhoods look like in the 1830s and 40s, when you all streamed over here to escape persecution of the English? Drunks. Laziness. Filth. Garbage. Yup...you guessed it. The Irish neighborhoods looked pretty much like the Hispanic neighborhoods do today. The Irish really didn't buy in to the capitalist-go-get'um-Protestan t-work ethic til the 20th century....so hold off on your "oh-my-god-how-could-any- newspaper-actually-celebrate-H ispanic-communities" ignorance. There's a lot of good people in these communities working to make things better for Hispanics; now it's time for the families themselves to get their kids off the streets, away from gangs, and into their schoolbooks. More than one in three residents of Allentown -- nearly 35 percent -- are Hispanic, according to the data. That's up 11,600 from 2000 to more than 37,000.

I am all for migration, but couldn't we get 26,000 new residents who earn more than $18,000 per capita income. In their quest for a less expensive, better life, this large of a population relocation of primarily non-entrenpreneurs has saddled Allentown with an ever increasing demand for all types of services.

I am all for cosmopolitanism, but we need residents in Allentown that can contribute to getting Allentown out of a fiscal black hole that Afflerbach and Pawlowski have gotten us into. I would love to see 26,000 Asian with Ph.D. in engineering move to Allentown. Now that is some cosmopolitanism that contributes to a solution for Allentown.

I am proud to be a Democratic Party member. I am happy for all seeking a better life. Guess what, now is time to deliver on that by how you live, turning in those who take away from the joy of life.

I want better, more educated, harder working, better parents, better neighbors, who do not commit crime in Allentown regardless of race. It would also help that they have capability to buy vs. renting. This would help the city also.

I hope the city hires more police to deal with the "diversity".....

If they are such an eage workforce, why don't I see the hispanics using cash at the food stores instead of the ever ready food stamp card? Hardly ever do you see a Hispanic paying w/o foodstamps, and this is in Bethlehem, not center city Allentwon. Why are they overflowing the emergency rooms with their kids that have runny noses and colds instead of at a pediatricians office? And no this is not a racist staement, it is a fact.

A fried of mine works at the welfare office. He told me that the funding for some of these "hand-outs" is expected to dry up, leaving many of these leaches to fend for themselves.
It's good to know that the spanish population is eager to help their own, because I'm damn tired of helping them.

When my ancestors came over the the U.S.A. They got a F***k**G job & learned to speak English!!!!! They did ask for free housing and cash. They didnt have 5 kids form 5 different fathers! Your as ignorant as a bigot just to supid to Know iw it!!!! F**K Y**U!!!

I was in Sacred Heart Hospital a few weeks ago. I will NEVER go back. The care was excellent the food was decent etc... But on the very 1st day a nurse came in and started speaking to me in Spanish!!! When I said No espanol!!! she lookes suprised and go pissed. Needless to say she is lucky if she still has a job.

The Irish came here because ownership and access to land was denied under British control. They came here with little and immediately took any jobs available and it was less than two decades until they controlled many of the east coast American cities politially. The Irish bettered their families by sending their children to parochial schools, dedication to family, sending daughters and sons to convent and seminary, starting business, government jobs, politics, military service and private industry.

You know so little about the Irish-American. The Irish were far from not hardworking. I would also say this of the average Mexican. The predominant problem in the Hispanic community is the Hispanic islanders who come with a lack of dedication to commerce. This is no different than life on the islands. It is culturally part of being from the Caribeean region.

In my own families case, my great-grandfather came to Philadelphia in 1888. His son attended Wharton-U. of Penn by 1908. His other son graduated from St. Charles Borromeo. His daughters were all educated from high school. They all lived successful lives on contribution to society in their chosen vocations. My family is no different that 100,000s of other Irish families.

I would hope that more in the Hispanic community look to their predecessors such as the Jewish, Irish, Italians to find how an unappreciated American subculture found success.

The pathway is respect for law, devotion to family, entrepreneurialism and work-ethic and most of all educational attainment. This is something that was never lacking in an Irish family in the 1840s or even in modern day Ireland.

Why is there a cause and effect relationship between having Hispanics in the neighborhood and the number of criminal incidents increasing?

One also has to notice several results of the Hispanic invasion..

1. The increase of population in the suburban townships and the flight of long-term generational residents of the City of Allentown to the townships.

2. The decline in the quality of life in the City of Allentown, with crime increasing and the general condition of the city deteriorating?

3. The decline in the quality of government schools in Allentown?

4. Lower tax revenues to the city government resulting in reduced government services?

The Hispanic invasion and the decline of the quality of life for Allentown residents is not coincidental.
