Yep. Business is business. It would be good if they can have some of the trees remaining as it would make the area look good. That's what they do in Australia. They save some of them so that the areas wouldn't look so bare.

Also, I would like to see SM to help create more employment for the locals, both internally and externally. Hopefully this will create more employment and not hurt the small businesses so much. That would be heaps good.

You know what's annoying sometimes? It's the fact that some Baguio people oppose this development but look at their surroundings. It's so dirty unlike before, no wonder even there are lots trees binabaha parin. I hope that along side with their vigilance on this issue, they also take time to check proper garbage disposal and illegal settlers sa city. Puro shanties na and not pine trees and nakikita. LGU must do something about this as well.

@andeecruz I agree with you, and I guess mga nag rally naman dun is being paid... kung concern talaga sila sa environment dapat marunong sila mag segrigate ng trash, mag tapon sa tamang basurahan, hinid sa kalsada lang... kaya ang dumi na ngayon sa baguio eh

maraming bata din sinama sa rally, but do thoese kids really knows whats happening? para dumami lang ang tao? its up to the citizen if how they will teach their children regarding how to save the environment, its not the right time to bring them in rallys.

My bet will be SM Mall will not give the janitor proper chemicals or rubber gloves to take care of the green bathrooms. Maybe they will be preparing food after cleaning bathroom. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll wash their hands before cleaning waterless urinals:

There are things that needs to be fixed before these resident march to save the trees, they first need to clean up their attitudes towards littering around their mountain-city. It's deplorable seeing a beautiful mountain area filled with garbage. When will they properly enforce 'No Littering' laws? Is it really that difficult?

I would have loved to see baguio City before it was turned over to the locals. If you go to the local museum near the mall you will see how amazing the city was at one time

For some of you who commented about the people of Baguio about not knowing anything and not caring about their city and environment,ETC.. WELL, SORRY BUT, YOU'RE VERY WRONG... you need to research more about them...do not judge them because of this tiny bit of a news THAT DID NOT EVEN SAY NOR TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT REALLY HAPPEN OR WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING......Baguio people are not like some of you guys who think and care only of themselves and not others...those who rallied ARE TRYING THEIR BEST TO PROTECT THE KILLING OF those trees, the environment and the future the children and the next generation...they were NOT PAID AS YOU PORTRAY THEM... BAGUIO PEOPLE DO NOT NEED SM, I WILL REPEAT, BAGUIO PEOPLE DO NOT NEED SM... BEFORE SM, IT WAS CLEANER AND GREENER AND NOT SO MUCH OF A GARBAGE UNLIKE NOW THAT SM IS THERE...SM IS THE MAIN CONTRIBUTOR OF THE TONS OF GARBAGE IN CITY...AND WORST, THEY DONT EVEN PAY THERE TAXES TO THE CITY...SO I SAY, you people above (SOME), BETTER DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU GUYS BAD MOUTH THESE PEOPLE...I HOPE THAT WHEN YOU NEED FRESH AIR AND OXYGEN DO NOT GO UP TO BAGUIO, GO TO SM MALL WHERE FAKE OXYGEN AND FAKE FRESH AIR IS THERE...OH, FAKE COLD TEMPERATURE TOO....

wow another "surrey" canada poster! That is amazing how many come from that city. I agree with you on your stance against SM! It will and probably already has killed the local business. Keep baguio money in Baguio rather then to that ultra rich chink.

hindi naman baguio people ang hindi marunong mag alaga ng city nila, actually it is general, halos lahat ng filipino kahit saan na lang nag tatapon ng basura, cont. on smoking this thing affects climate change... sana mag ipon na lang ng pang bili ng puno kesa sa yosi.. what SM did was good planting more trees... but I hope they will cont. to plant more trees.

Good decision of Baguio residents to protest uprooting trees that took years to grow to make the environment healthy. Residents should take command of their health & environment. Businesses can choose empty lots.

@lea...that's right! Actually, the flooding in Baguio is not only due to lack of trees, it's garbage. sad to say, there's no proper waste disposal in Baguio. Remember the garbage landslide that happened last August 2011?=/ Tragedies have many factors so it's unfair to blame everything to SM. And yes, I hope SM management will stay true to their word in planting and taking care of trees. Yes, trees will take years to grow, we may not be able to see them as a adult trees, but at least the next generation will.=)
