Some more information about Iguanas diet:
If you give them too many beans they mess alot. If they eat too much fruit they mess alot. Only 10% of their diet is fruit. 80% of their diet is green leafy veg. like collard greens romaine lettuce, endive, escarole, spinach. As a side dish they eat cooked carrots, peas, beans, squash yel or green fresh or frozen. My Iguanas vet told me I can give him apples mixed with broccolli, but not to give all apples alone, and don't give all brocolli alone, hard to digest. About salmonella, just wash your hands and you won't get it, I never did and I have my Iguana 11 years. |

More Info. on Iguanas about sunlight:
Today My Iguana got sun outside in his cage. It was very nice and sunny and warm today for 11/15/09, 68 degrees. He needs sun for vitamin D. The winter months he gets U.V. light, reptile flourescent bulbs he sits under. It's a 55 gallon aquarium with a screen top which the light rests on top of. I leave an opening at one end of the tank so he can go in and out of the tank freely, he has his own bedroom to move about, and on occasion he takes walks in my living room. |

Thanks for the life story of your lizard,Do you think he would breed my tree frog? |
||||
I had tree frogs once. They only last a year at most for me, I read all the care books on them, I took them to the vet when they became sick, the vet could never do anything for them. They just did not survive, I tried everything. They kept getting dark spots on their skin, some kind of bacteria infection. I never got a tree frog in years because of this. |

If you ever decide to try them again,the brazilian variety are the best.good luck |

Thanks for the tip. |

Iguana care tip about skin shedding:
Spray their entire body with a plant mister filled with water a few times a day, this will help shed an Iguanas skin. |

Iguana tip: About temperature setting.
They like warm temperatures, preferably 80 degrees. I have a small portable plug in ceramic heater for mine during the winter months. I never use a tall stand up heater in case he knocks it over, I use a cube shape heater and place it on the floor. He also has a sun basking lamp he sits under for added warmth. |

Iguana tip on drinking water and hygene:
They don't require alot of water daily but they do drink some water. Mine won't drink straight water, I must add about 1/2 cup sweet peas to the water for him to drink it. He only drinks water once a day, he gets his water from all the vegetables like peas, beans, carrots and green leafy veg. like collard greens. He gets a new white uncoatedpaper plate of veg. every time he eats, except when he gets water, he has a plastic ferret or dog dish he drinks from, and is washed each time he uses it. Clean dishes are very important, he could get a bacteria infection from uncleaned dishes, which he did once many years ago, that's how I found out this is important with the $700.00 vet bill which saved his life. |

grunt tip;just rub my belly a little and give me a bottle of wine and a blunt then i'm your man .i dont get bacteria infections and the dishes dont even have to be clean just call me baby.

Iguana Tip:
They need reptile lights for artificial U.V. light during cold months when they cannot be put outside. I put mine in a dog kennel cage that is 6 w x 12 L x 6 H for sun. Sun gives him the vitamin d that he requires. |
