"However, if a wholesale government takeover fails to deliver results, there is nothing left to do but continue to prop up the failed government system, because the private system will have been destroyed." I think that's the whole intent of what's going on. If any part of capitalism can be destroyed then the rest can be destroyed incrementally. Because we failed to demand that politicians act on behalf of the people and not on their parties, we will soon suffer under the iron hand of government and "woe is us" will be the standard of the day.

As an American citizen in her mid 20s, I am pretty pissed that all this stuff is happening right on the cusp of my promise and potential. I feel like my whole life is on hold. I'm college educated, but I can't find a job--ANY job, even a crappy one! So I'm back in school. There is a good chance that when I finish graduate school I will still not be able to find a job. I'm afraid to get pregnant because I don't know what kind of situation medicine in America will be in 9 months from now so I can't start a family yet. Even if I wasn't worried about that, I wouldn't be able to afford to start a family now anyway. And I'm pissed because I did everything right. I did exactly what everyone said to do: good grades in high school, got into a great university, graduated. I avoided all of the pitfalls and I worked REALLY, REALLY hard and for what? I'm an adult just in time to witness my country come to the brink of complete economic and government DISASTER. Who to blame, who to blame? It doesn't matter, do it? Repubs, Dems, blah, blah, blah. ALL are to blame.
Where are you, John Galt? |

1 Since the late 1990s when the health insurance industry has been changing from non profit to profit, this country has been drained of its wealth. Don't go blaming Doctors, Hospitals or even the current government. Blame those that elected the politicians that changed all the rules and allowed for this corporate stealing. |

There was an amendment added that made it madatory for congress mmebers to enroll with the new plan. The next day, just before the vot, Pelsoi changed the word to "may" enroll. Wonder why?
Corp, we have raised a generation of " me's " and are paying for it now. They are ALL greedy and look out only for themselves plus we have turned the public dole into a honorable profession. People actually brag about getting assistance for doing nothing. Some are even too lazy to do the applications and become angry when made to complete the forms themselves. |

Dear Corp:
You're right that Health care is not health insurance. That's why I can't figure out why anyone would support a bill that requires people to buy health insurance and then congratulate themselves for making health care affordable and accessible to all. The FACT is that this bill does not promise health care at all. It simply promises to fine (tax) those that do not buy health insurance. How can you not see that the people in Congress who voted for this bill are playing right into the hands of that very insurance industry which you condemn? Health insurance DOES NOT EQUAL health care! They will just be taking money for no good reason. Talk about raping the people! |

Well, I don't know the answer, but I would venture to guess that since the health care exchange will only be available to those who do not have employer paid benefits (approximately 30 million people); than why should members of congress have special access to those plans when 90% of American's won't? You are all correct though, no matter what side of the fence you are all on. This health care bill is crap. The democrats had a lot of good ideas, but they have all been turned to half-measures and concessions in order to garner enough votes. This is a status quo bill that will do nothing to lower premiums. I assure all of you Republicans that there is nothing to fear from this health care bill, it won't do anything...which is exactly what you apparently want. Congratulations. |

It was a rhetorical question. If the plan was so good, they wouldnt have to be asked. They have perks that would make your head spin.

Hey 'Corporate Stealing'...you claims are wrong. For instance, the GDP for Taco Bell in 2008 was 8%. The GDP for insurance companies collectively was 2.8% So, you fell for the Pelosi rhetoric of making the insurance the bad guys.

Almost 2,000 words and it won't do anything? Wow, Get Over It. I don't know if I should be more depressed about your apparent naivete or Congress' apparent wind-baggery.

For Citygirl, the 2.8% you quote is for the health industry, not for health insurance profits. The health industry is made up of many phara companies that always operate at a loss for tax reasons when developing drugs, hospitals that are getting killed by treating the uninsured etc. etc. The Insurance Industry is doing just fine with profits that exceed 28% in some cases. The CEO of United Health has stock options worth 1.4 billion dollars.
Get your facts right before tooting your horn. |

Okay Get Facts Right- here's one for you. If Congress really wanted to help the 'uninsured', they could give them each a $1 million policy and we would only be -$37 million...not TRILLIONS. Wake up you fool- it is about CONTROL over the American people, not HEALTHCARE and you are too stupid to see it.

all they should do is create a government insurance company that competes with the insurance industry just like texas did with the workman's comp fund. with the numbers of people that could sign up with the federal government and its employees(congress included) it would drive pricing down. they would need to let tort reform and crossing state lines go along with it. this will keep the insurance companies honest and the federal government competitive. anything else would be a cluster fukkkk.
