"They plan to spend $500,000 over the next year to see if disparities still exist." That's $500,000 dollars of our tax money being wasted at a time when the county is crying over budget cuts. It's about time the playing field was leveled.

Now that whites are a minority in this county, of course they must stop the set-asides. The idea of set-asides is to discriminate against whites. With control of the ballot box and white-male hating liberals in office, this will become a natural occurance. With blatent discrimination, white males will leave and Broward will become (fill in your favorite Central American, Carribean, South American, African, stumblin' bumblin' fumblin' economic wreck that everyone is breaking the law to escape fom). So long, Whitey. So long, prosperity.

It's about time. I image reverse discrimination cases will be popping up all over the United States. Affirmative action must end. Earn on your merit and ability, not on your color.

The minority in Broward County is the white male. Read last week's story on the topic. When the "minority" is the majority, everyone needs to learn how to compete on their own merits and not on what they look like.

"The absence of equity in the long run will create chaos because you can't have a handful of people making all the money," he said.

Really Pat, it's time to stop the handouts. Why should the government give handouts and special treatment to the minorities? Minorities have been given every opportunity, above and beyond the average person, to improve their status in this Country and it's time to stop the pandering. If they can't play outside with the big dogs then maybe they should stay on the porch where its safe.

Pat, on a final note, go and protect your newphew Mike Carter, who's with the city of Pompano Beach, and pay out another hush hush money so his sexual harrassment suits will go away and he can keep his job. How many does he have under his belt, about 3 or 4 now. Any average person would have lost their job on the first one, not your boy. What's up with that? Oh, that's right another case of pandering.

I agree with you 100%. I want someone to do the job with our taxpayer money correctly and wisely. Not because they are a minority.

I wish the public knew what the Purchasing Division has been made to do under this ordinance. You talk about government waste. I could post for hours, but basicly contracts were awarded to small businesses who sub contracted them to big businesses and simply marked up the price and did NO work. YOU the tax payer paid the bills.

"It is a sad day, but we have to move forward and deal with reality, and the reality is we can't substantiate maintaining the program as it is," Commissioner Lois Wexler said.--- So what, may we ask, actual premises were you operating on before Lois? admitted Non-Reality??? Sheesh - there's a Broward Commish for ya. Morons all.

I worked so hard to become a minority, by being the majority white male, and giving all to the minority. Now that I have "arrived" with my hand out for my turn at the minorities trough, there's nothing left. They ones I helped have slammed the door shut. Oh well, I will now have to give to the majority and pay the price for getting up off my butt and working hard at a real job on my own merits.

tax payers money should not be wasted on discrimination! quality and price first not some liberal handout agenda! nbeing a woman or a minority is not a qualifiaction for getting a contract! this rules will never stand up in court and ZI hope broward county pays big $$$$. by the way it is discrimination not "reverse discrimination" that implies that discrimination by one group against another exists or existed execulisvely and that is nothing more than liberal bull!!!

This is a good trend as we have reached the point of ludicrousness......"Minor ities make up a majority of Broward's population, according to the most recent census projections"

They should also compare the number of businesses involved in the selection process. I imagine some companies have to go out of there way at times to find the "right" contractors.

There is reverse discrimination and it needs to stop. I have experienced having to work with people who are hired because of quotas, not qualifications. Though not performing well, they stay on the job due to fear of a lawsuit as well.

Time to move on and make changes. It may have been important at one time but not anymore.

I am pleased about this. We constantly talk about equality then we have these set asides and reverse discrimination in other facets of our lives. I want it to be equal for all but it hasn't been that way. Our government, both local and national has done more to put a wall between races than anyone. Wouldn't it be nice that the most qualified gets the contracts and jobs?

why shouldn't they! if they are the best for the job but they have the wrong sex organs to get the contract why should they just walk away from making a living?? if the county is less concerned with quality and price and does not care about discriminating against men or whites or who ever they use as a scapegoat,he should play the game to his advantage and should also sue to stop this practice! the only way someone should get a contract is based on price and quality! there is an entire industry of so called "minorties" set up to over charge government and make big bucks just so the liberals can fill some bogus quotat with my tax money!! it is wrong and it has got to stop!

The set aside programs were a joke and every contractor in Broward County that had to comply with this ridiculous requirement knows it in addition to the so-called minority companies that were handed free contracts with no effort. It was simply FREE money for non-achievers PERIOD. It was the epitome of reverse discrimination. I'm looking forward to preparing bid documents without having to pursue minority firms who were not deserving.

Bad move! This just shows how rich white men and their sleazy attorneys selfishly continue to manipulate the legal system to get all of the money for themselves. They are the reason that programs like this exist in the first place. Government contract work should be evenly distributed and to the companies that pitch the best proposal for the most reasonable price, but looking back at the history of this country no one can argue that women and minorities have ever really been treated failry. The more things change...
Minorities are majority now in Broward county. Whites are less than 50%
