I read that John Vargas also is a Vice President of Finance for a group of schools. That speaks a lot for that candidate. Got to take a serious look at him

Watch out for them Vargas brothers!

Ginger, when are you going to get over the fact that the Vargas brothers, as well as almost every sane man in America prefers Maryanne? Stop it Ginger and move on. Thurston might like you, but we don't. Sincerely, Gilligan

I am going to vote for Vargas, Michelin, and Krank. I think those three are the most qualified. Vargas has the school finance experience, Michelin brings the expertise of the school district, and Krank brings the parent perspective, which is always important.

Can anyone give information about Hugo Rojas?
I am hearing that he has some DUI's. Is this true? If it is true, then how can I confirm? |
As a mother of a student at HMS, I am glad Rojas will be gone from the Hawthorne School Board but CV voters should be informed. Check this out from a Daily Breeze article:
A Hawthorne school board member with a history of drunken driving convictions filed papers Wednesday to run for City Council in the November election. Hugo Rojas, 38, was arrested as recently as April on suspicion of driving drunk. He was convicted of reckless driving in 1998 and twice convicted of drunken driving in 2000. Rojas also pleaded no contest to charges of paying children to steal rival campaign signs during the 2002 school board election. Rojas did not return calls seeking Is this the man you want teenagers looking up to? |
I'm not sure if that is true about Rojas or not.
Regardless, we need to make sure we have leaders who can make those important decisions. Not sure about his voting history on the board. My main concern is the Hawthorne School District. I hope with these three new board members, the district will continue to improve. |
I agree that school board should have the best people possible to make informed decisions. However, I looked into his record on-line through the court system and had to pay a small fee but it is true that he has 2 DUI's and one wreckless driving. It is concerning even more now I received a four page brochure with him and a current board member. How can someone with that kind of record be endorsed by our board members who make decisions for our children? The community needs to be informed about his record because I am now afraid that a person who practices poor judgement behind the wheel will now make decisions for our children. |

Everything posted above is true about Rojas. Rojas is a poor example of an elected official. In case no has noticed - Mr. Rojas is now dating CVUHSD candidate Maritza Molina. I could not make the forum but from all accounts Molina was terible. You have a lot of growing up to do before you seek public office. Maritza is an impressionable young lady - stay away from Rojas. Rojas will bring you down. |
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo! I can not believe that this can be true. We could possibly have a two time convicted drunk driver and two board members that are now intimate? Our students deserve better than this type of circus. What about education? |
I was at the School Board Forum: and frankly the only ones worth voting for are Vargas, Michelin and Krank.
These three can really do a lot of good. NOW, if you think that Molina seeking a CVUHSD was bad and inmature, you should have heard Barrera speaking: she was worst. This lady is older than Molina, but lacks more class than her: she spoke derogatorively about the Hawthorne teachers: calling them un-educated. Some teachers were present. |
To seek a position in a School Board, you should be educated yourself. And by the demeanor she showed in the forum, Barrera lack a lot. How can someone like
her make decisions about educating children. |
Poor Example - How can you be sure Molina and Rojas are dating? what proof do you have other than seeing them together since they are on the same slate? Not saying they aren't but I don't want us to spread rumors but spread facts.

There is one choice that HSD parents have for school board - Nadia Barrera. Why?
-She sends her kids to Lawndale Schools -She works for school board member Monterio The choice is clear. NOT! |
Go Barrera.
Nadia is the less qualified of all the candidates for HSD Board. You should have seen her in the school board forum. She showed very little class and poor manners, bad mouthing HSD teachers. Several were present. This shows that she is lacking basic education for HSD Board. If she sends her children to Lawndale Schools is because she must not believe in HSD. Now working with or for Monteiro does not help her much. Monteiro is walking from his post in the HSD board 2 years before completing his 4 year term: poor precedent. Could it be that Monteiro also does not believe in the HSD or just wanted to use the post in the board as a stepping stone for his further political ambitions. Conclusion: Nadia unfit for HSD Board. But there are 3 other good candidates. Vote for them on Nov 3. |
