Why do the Democratic signs in town have the line "At least they live here". Do any of the candidates live out of town?

Yes, Ed Burlew lives in Cliffwood and is using a Keyport address to claim he lives here. I believe its his Mothers address.

So if people know he doesn't actually live in Keyport how is the Republican Party expecting to get him on the ballot. Personally, if a person has a relative in one town but he gets his mail to another the place where he gets his mail is his legal address. This isn't going to fly. Haven't we had enough of people circumventing our towns laws to further their businesses and bank accounts. If he's not a legal resident of Keyport he should withdraw his name from the ballot immediately

I agree, I'm waiting to see if anything is done about it myself. Maybe he's getting his mail there now.

If the man is not a legal Keyport resident and suddenly begins getting his mail right in line with elections then it's obviously a manipulation of the process and will not be allowed. as I said Keyport residence are fed up with the under handed abuse the system takes. We don't need a council that abuses the system just to put himself in a position where his presence on the board can help his own businesses. We've had enough of that. But again, lets be fair and wait to see what the truth is. If the situation is legitimate that I wish him luck

Ed Burlew lives at 1006 Beach Ave. in cliffwood. Check the monmouth county tax records. He has forged his license and mail to his dead mothers house to get on the ballot so he can poop on keyport some more- our town republicans know it and still endorse him cause he is as good as a Merla on council- let the corruption begin agian!

If that is the case then the Keyport Republican party is the stupidest organization in New Jersey. The mayor of Keyport is an Attorney. If there is legal grounds to remove someone from the ballot then he will find a way. Now, saying that it's a waiting game. If the election goes off without a protest and Mr Burlew stays on the ballot then it was investigated and deemed legit. Time will tell. I think just for the controversy the Republicans should have picked a different candidate. It's silly to take a risk losing the election because of an obvious play on the system.

Ok from what I was told Mr Burlew's mother passed away recently and apparently he's been staying at her house these past few months. My condolences on his loss. I don't know what the law is pertaining to residency for elections so making a personal comment is not helpful. If these circumstances seem legitimate then the election will go forward. If the Republicans check into this and there is legal issues then that will come out too. I guess we'll all see in the near future. Good luck to all and who ever wins, just remember to take care of the people. We deserve it.

You have to live in town for a year to qualify for the ballot- send your sympathy card to Cliffwood cause that is where he still sleeps. Our government doesn't care if you qualify for real just on paper. The repubs know an dont care cause they have no one else to run but merla cronies and merla friends. You missed the fundraiser at the bulkhead bar- sure got a good $$ deal on that one. It is all about power and greed in keyport politics- alwys has been always will-may the best men win-

Well if you have to be a Keyport resident for a year and he's not and the Mayor is an attorney it seems this move will be countered. If they allow the election to go through without challenging, shame on them

Well, with 3 days left until the election I haven't seen anyone from the Democratic side challenging the residency issue. So I guess it's not a real issue at all. Good luck to all then. The candidates with the best chance of helping Keyport succeed should get the vote. Everyone in town stay Non-Partisan and vote for the town instead of the party.

The Democrats went door to door leaving literature talking about and a photo showing Burlews house in Cliffwood this weekend. It also mentions some of his lawsuits he's hadagainst the boro over hte years. I had forgotten about them. I recall a assult charge that was filed against him some years ago. I guess it was dropped.

Like everything else in Keyport this should be kinda simple. If Keyport residence know Mr. Burlew lives in Cliffword and that he's only staying at his mom's residence for election purposes the voting will show that. I mean really the town is small enough that information like that would get around town like wild fire. If it's not true the results will show that too. Either way it's up to residence to vote for the right candidate not just along party lines. The way things are right now it is a stupid person that votes along party lines instead of the candidate that will most help their town. If people in Keyport haven't learned their lesson they'll soon be voting for Merla again.

Since I haven't seen the results I take it that Mr. Burlew won the seat on the council?

As of right now I haven't seen or heard who the winners are but if Burlew got in, the residents of Keyport are the losers. Nothing will get done now, he will argue every point until it serves him.

Right now the residents of Keyport need to evaluate Front street and start luring businesses to the town that compliment the bars, restaurants and stores we already have. year round stores that we can give tax breaks too. Parking spaces. Anything that will bring businesses to town. On the news and in the newspapers it was mentioned how several small towns did just that. They actually looked for a "Dream List" of stores that were looking to re-locate. The mayor and council lured these small shops and stores to the town with those tax incentives. Those towns (I'll look up the names) showed a positive cash flow for the town and everyone is happy. Both the mayor and all town council members were re-elected by landslides due to their great work. They also had a mixture of Democrats and Republicans.

So who would have guessed it. We don't have a winner yet. It appears that Ms. Bolte won out over Mr. Burlew, but wait there are a bunch of write in votes that still need to be counted????? Maybe this info is false, as I heard it earlier today in town, granted it may only be a rumor, but the winners haven't been named yet. Just as an aside, I truely believe that if a Merla were able to run for office, they would win again in a landslide, in Keyport it's not about policy it's about popularity.
