I happened to see this article in the Palo Alto Daily News. I am a childhood friend of Mr. Demeter and have kept in touch through all these years. I was shocked to read the account of the incident. I believe that my friend, Bela, is not accountable for his actions because of severe depression at losing his wife of over 40 years in a terrible way from cancer. Bela speaks 5 languages and was the librarian at Stanford University. He also has a son, Dietmar Demeter, living somewhere in Silicon Valley. I believe that Bela needs psychiatric help and not in a criminal court.

Thank You Imre for your kind and truthful words. I would concur with your observations, he has been severely depressed and lonley since the death of his beloved wife.
