"We really want to provide activities for families to grow together and provide a safe place to do that," said Recreation Supervisor Natalie Koehn.
Natalie Koehn needs to recognize that Farmington has the largest number of Meth Addicts and registered Pedophiles in NM, unnecessarily exposing our children overnight to this environment borders on insanity.
I suggest she concentrate on daytime activities.

Reporters please discuss the taxpayer money that is spent on this. Coordinators, assistants, electricity, etc. What is the operating budget for this community center? Tax payers want to know. I am certain good things are done here, but what is the cost ? Where does the public good end ?

Last time I checked, meth addicts and pedophiles are everywhere. So I guess this means that going out camping anywhere in Farmington or New Mexico would be insane as well. The campout is no different than camping out at the lake or somewhere else. If anything it is safer because it is a supervised event and there is a facility that can be used case of any emergencies. Plus these children are with their fathers not by themselves. I think that Natalie Koehn and her staff are doing a great job in creating activities such as this to provide an enjoyable and safe bonding opportunity for families.

Great government involved in parenting. You know what, I am tired of paying for this stuff. The article stated they could have gone on their own. Why not ask for donations? If they don't get any, then don't do it.

If I recall correctly the cost was 3 dollars a person, and supply your own bedding and tent (or sleep under the stars). For 6 bucks a father can take his kid on an overnight outing. You could bring blankets from the house if you didn't have sleeping bags. How much would it cost for food and other esentials for an over night outing? I think this was a great, cheap outing for a father and son.

I had told my son about this event so that he could have an opportunity for a very cheap outing for him and my grandson. Unfortunatly there were prior commitmnets and they were unable to attend this event. They would have loved it though, I am sure.

I think it's a good idea also and a hefty thanks to you for promoting it the way you did on this post.

Any activity you do with your child is important. If you can get them out of the every day and do something that is not only a little different but a one on one, it is that much more special.

Money can be a real obsticle for many. Low cost and bonding too, I just don't see the problem.

You know now that I have read my own post I would like to change it. To heck with the bonding bit. How about the day that kid, at the age of 15, 20,35 looks back and he says "There wasn't a lot of extra money in my home but my Dad took $6 and we had an over night camp out and....."

How about my dad took NOTHING, but me and we camped in the back yard. His portion of payment was not the true cost of the event. Don't be fooled...a wonderful thing yes, but why do I need to pay for it? I am paying for the facility, the "staff", the goodies, the overhead, the bathrooms, toliet paper, etc. Nothing wrong with doing it own your own. Whatever the struggle, quit making an excuse and depending upon someone else to help. That is the problem. Wait until they tie your other government "benefits" to your "participation" in sanctioned events.
