I saw a coyote walking down my street last year, it looked pretty sickly. It went under my neighbors porch. I called animal control and they said they would come down and check it out in case it was sick. they never showed up.
In the last 3 years or so, I have seen about 5 or 6 coyotes in my neighborhood.

I say shoot it. They kill pets.
I called last year about one in my backyard. The animal control officer in Billierica did not even call me back. I am ready for it if it ever returns.

I saw him last night. I thought, at
first, it was a huskie dog, but
then determined it was something
other than that.

It looks more wolfish than that
of a coyote.

I'm with you...I see it daily...if this is a coyote, it is the biggest one Ive ever seen...It resembles a wolf more than Wile E...r we waiting for it do hurt someone before we can get rid of it..tranquilize it and move him somewhere else...there are more than one of these roaming around this neighborhood...very unsettling being outside with the kids, or for the cats...I guess we have to wait til someone gets bit, or an animal is eaten before we take action...

See if the Billerica Animal Control Officer will even call you back.
That photo does not look like an eastern Coyote to me either.

I do not think he will do anything, unless he is provoked. When I saw
him, he was more afraid of me than the vehicles traveling in the area.

I was very impressed by his
demeanor.

Coyotes look upon all animals as a food source, people included.

There have already been instances of small children being attacked and killed by coyotes.

If there are coyotes in your neighborhood, get the animal control people to do something.

If they can't or won't, buy a shotgun and do it yourself!

Nice picture of a well fed Huskie. Some people don't have a clue what a coy dog or coyote actually looks like.

This DOG was in my yard yesterday. I called the Lowell and Tewksbury dog officers but he ran off down the tracks into Billerica once the turkey I was feeding him ran out. It is a siberian Husky with beautiful blue eyes. He did however kill a cat in our neighborhood two days ago. He is very hungry and needs to be caught. He kept walking out into Billerica ave and he is very confused. He acts like a pet that has been out on the run for a while.

My husband and I also saw this dog last friday July 3rd. He ran through our yard and my neighbors yard on Karl Drive off High Street in N.Billerica. He was very scared. He didnt look like a coyote. He looked like a cross between a husky and a shepard. he was much bigger than any coyote I have ever seen.We first thought it was a wolf also. Then we thought it was a dog that someone just let go. He looked as if he weighed around 125 lbs. Poor thing.

I sat and fed him and he has beautiful blue eyes. Wolves and coyotes do not have blue eyes. He is an adult husky thats hair is ratty looking from no one catching him. He looks like he has been out for a long time.

Eye color
Around six to eight weeks of age the pups eyes will turn green and finally will reach their adult color which can be anything from pale yellow, to amber or even orange or brown. Adult wolves do not have blue eyes like can be seen in some dogs such as Siberian huskies.

I think your shepard/husky mix was a perfect description. Poor thing.

this is somewhat hysterical. i live iin the letchworth ave area and keep hearing about this so called wolf in our neighborhood. to give you some background, i rescued/raised my own alaskan malamute for about 8 years (she passed on several years ago at the age of 12) and have researched malamutes, huskies and know a fair amount about wolves and coyotes.

first, it would be extremely rare for this to be a wolf. only one has been spotted in massachusetts (in western mass about 18 months ago) in the last 100 years. becuase there was that one though i'm not ruling it out.

this does not even look like a coyote. coyotes are much smaller and are typically brown and not this "healthy" or muscular looking.

so that leaves us with a malamute or a husky (or a cross breed with either of these breeds in the mix). the main difference between the two (in adulthood) is that a malamute always has 2 brown eyes. a husky can have 2 blue eyes or one brown/one blue eye. so if in fact this animal has 2 blue eyes, it's likely a stray husky.

since it does look healthy, either it's being well fed by people in it's travels or finding it's own food. malamutes are notorious scroungers - i had mine "steal" 1/2 a left over pizza out of my trash one time and ate not only the pizza, but the box it came in. however, judging by the fact that it looks fairly well groomed, i'd guess it was recently abandoned or perhaps ran away (perhaps it got spooked by fireworks?)

i'm hoping to see it very soon as i believed i'd know almost immediate if i could get close enough what this is. but, at a minimum, i'd bet it is not a coyote...the lowell sun should do some more research before reporting

additional comments on coyotes..

-- they aren't so broad chested as the animal in this picture
-- a coyote's legs are usually much longer, thinner
-- their snout (nose) is typicaly much narrower (almost pointy like a fox)

I didn't even look at the picture. That doesn't look like the coyotes I've been seeing.

The coyotes I've seen in my area have been real mangy looking. The one that went under my neighbors porch last year looked really sick and was staggering down the street about noon time. That's why I called animal control. I thought maybe it had rabies. the woman I talked to said she doubted it, but it probably had mange. She never bothered to come out an look.
