Deer hunting is a good time to be extra cautious and prepared. Before there were cell phones and gps there were whistles and compasses.Yet people still hve accidents and get lost and sometimes getting lost is just as deadly. If you find yourself injured or lost, your preperations and a bit of woods smarts goes a long way. If you don't have even a compass then you should at least know a little about the roads and the area you hunt. You should not give in to panic as you are now your own biggest problem not the animals or the weather.Remember the sun and moon both rise in the east so if you are facing a sunrise or moon rise that is the east.behind you is west on your right is south, left is north. In rough country stumbling in the dark is not a good idea.At least in the morning you should know which way you have to walk.Always check the landmarks you passed before you parked and even for an extra 2 miles or more up ahead and then double back and hunt . The urge may be to hunt the next ridge further on or at the other side of swamp or whatever. But remember you then have to drag both yourself and your deer back out.Make good decisions and of course ....DUCK!!.

30-30 rifles are the most dangerous in my opinion simply by the way you have to load and unload them and the half cock safety.

Is there an age limit on hunting? As humans we start out as babies, bald, cant walk, cant talk and as we grow older we loose all those things we have learned over the years. So at a certain age we need to put away our Toys and start playing BINGO.. I am not upset about this he should not be hunting at his old age anyway.

Just put the hammer down on the loaded chamber (hammer block) and you're all set; takes no time to pull back the hammer and it's super safe. This poor fellow had to ignore God knows how many safety rules for this to happen. Same old story for a select few year after year.

If you read the headline and then read the article they say two different things. The headline say the guy shot himslef but the articel (to me) makes it sound like the repel action of the rifle hit him and I would assume then that he most likely had a heart attack or something. Anyone else agree?

Censoring the description of the safety mechanism of the 30-30 rifle as it has been described for decades? Next, roosters will be crowing will be described as,'(expletive deleted)-a-doodle-do'. LMAO.

Maybe this fellow loved deer hunting and it was a big part of his life....So maybe he died doing the thing he enjoyed most, not the worst way to go..way better then rotting in some "old folks home"
