Best guess, a shelter but then they have to give up their drugs, boy or girl friends, pets and drinking and actually "gasp" follow some simple rules.

Tons of money is spent each year and the bottom line is this, some simply do not want to go "anywhere". OK fine but living in public spaces is NOT an option anymore. The parks and beaches are not overflow housing.

rather than looking at the flags hanging from their tents, look at the teeth, if the front ones are rotting or missing, it is likley meth

their true allegiance can be found by looking at the teeth

<<Chang said the beach cleanups, which began three years ago, came as a result of the community's pleas.>>

I had friends visiting from the mainland, and they were shocked when they saw the number of tents lined along the beach areas. I don't want to be insensitive to the homeless, which is becoming a nationwide epidemic, but tourism is part of Hawaii's life's blood. In-your-face scenes like this has got to have a negative impact on the industry and taking three years to get adequate results is just "nuts." No matter how difficult at times, protecting the greater good is the most important.

Umm, there's homeless shelters on the Waianae Coast if you haven't heard. My guess is they like the free, live off the land type of lifestyle but I feel sorry for their kids who'd most likely have the same future when they are older. I hear some don't like to live a life of rules in the shelters. Living in the shelter means to help ones self learning and finding a job! Just my thoughts

Yes, it's nice that "Depots" has been cleaned up. Nanakuli's beaches are beautiful but who knows what's in the water now. We used to take our children there to swim and picnic. When the homeless moved in there was no such luxury. Not that they were intrusive but you just never knew what was going on. I'm sorry that they had to move but maybe (hopefully) they can find another place to park their gear. Or, maybe-just maybe, they can straighten themselves up, get jobs and rent living units. Big dream, but, it's possible.

I used to feel sorry for the plight of the homeless on the Leeward Beaches but I no longer do. Most of the unfortunate homeless---people put there through no fault of their own---loss of job, lack of affordable housing, etc--have rightfully moved in with their families into the Waianae shelters to seek something better. The chronic homeless--those who choose to live the "beach people" lifestyle--where they are not answerable to no one and who section off parts of public parks as if it is their own private property--they have overstayed their welcome. Some of the chronic homeless are drug dealers and drug users---we've seen them on Depots Beach and elsewhere on the Waianae Coast beaches openly doing drug deals in plain sight, in broad daylight. W've seen them with their choke dogs, choke trash piles, choke used drug syringes and other paraphernalia. And we're tired of it!!!

When all is said and done--returning the beach parks back to public use is the highest and best use---and most resident tax payers will agree--get rid of the chronic lawlessness and restore public order!

Oh yea---if we need to create places for them to go---how about the old Barbers Point housing areas---the houses may be gone on the west end of Kalaeloa (behind Kapolei Costco) but the streets, parking areas, sewer system and water pipes are still there. Put up comfort stations and have them camp there!

Get use to more homelessness. We will soon have more people sleeping on our beaches. You can thank our politicans for all their new taxes. The cost of Mufi`s train will force people out of their homes and into the street. We only have ourselves to blame for this. Hawaii puts the same politicans back in office each election. These politicans come up with new ways to tax the people. People who are struggling to make ends meet finally give up and end up living on our beaches and streets. Things will get worse.

That is not quite true. Many will move into the new stations and possibly under the guideways. Heck if the tickets are cheap enough they may just ride the train all day and night.

The homeless will just go up the coast and find another beach to camp out. One solution if for them to go straight for the mountains. Nobody will bother them there.

They'll probably go to prison next, because that's where homelessness began. They spend 5-10 years without a job or skills (in prison) and then kicked out the door without a chance of getting settled into a job Without skills) or a home (no mo money for rent/deposit) and end up on the beach. THIS IS A FACT! 6000 residents of Hawaii are incarcerated, but there is only 150 beds in the Laumaka half-way house for re-entry. Check it out, and the next time you read about some desperado who has a lengthy rap sheet, don't say he didn't learn his lesson, because the lesson being taught is to go out and FAIL!
